With everyone having to become a recessionista in the last year I know that not everyone will be able to hit up a festival this year, me included. But this in no way means you have to miss out on all the fun! Why put up with the horrible loos, unreliable weather and unbelievable crowds when you can do all the best parts of the festival from the comfort of your own home? All you need is a group of friends and a little bit of imagination and you can have just as much fun with your own homemade festival. You choose the music, the food and the venue. You can make the whole thing as big or small as you want it is all about having fun with your friends, recreating the festival vibe and making it an amazing summer.

So get ready to host your *insert your name here* Festival 2010.

Here are some of my hints to get your very own festival under way:

  •  Get everyone excited, whether it is 2- 200 people you want to come over, make it authentic and draw or print up little posters like my attempt above  or give your friends tickets to let them know whats happening. Wristbands are always a great festival keepsake so rustle up some of your own for people to wear on the day and keep to remind them of your summer festival fun!
  •  Pitch your tent/s out in your back garden or area nearby. Put out rugs, cushions,  for people to laze around, make a comfy area to hang out- they beauty of not having your own festival is you can do it in comfort!
  • Pack a cooler or use your fridge to stash your drinks  You could put up an old bed sheet or cheap as chips gazebo from a supermaket for a real life beer tent!
  • Make sure you get a whole load of yummy snacks. You could even throw on a BBQ for the authentic burger van smell :)
  • Grab a laptop with I tunes and either listen to your own music, download live albums for full effect or download spotify and you can listen to pretty much anything. A cd player cranked up to the max can get the party started or use Radio one as they often broadcast live from the festivals so take advantage! If the weather turns sour and you have to move your festival indoors the red button service on the BBC means you can see all the live action from the festival and keep the party going!
  • Fancy being the headliner at a festival-well now is your chance!  If you or any of your friends are musical why not ask them to come over and take it i20080804115032n turns to perform, invite friends family and neighbours and make it a real event.
  • Have a mate work the door and be the festival bouncer for fun, make people flash those homemade wristabands to authenticity!
  • Make sure to remember and dress the part, anything goes at a festival but be sure to check out my first festival post to get some hints on what you might want to put on and keep with you to keep you festival fabulous all day long.
  • Take the festival into the night by putting out candles or wrap fairy lights around trees or furniture, it will give it such a great summers atmosphere!

 These are all just some fun ideas to get you started but really all you need is a little inspiration and a lot of imagination! Make sure you don’t miss out on all the festival fun by trying out a few of these tips and enjoy a DIY festival this summer, and make sure you come back and let us all know how it goes.

So  you can imagine my excitement when the lovely people over at Superdrug got in touch to say  I had gotten to this stage of being a summer insider.  Free makeup showing up in the post you say? I almost knocked over the poor postie grabbing it out of his hands!

I pretty much instantly applied a little of everything in the package and went to work  like a happy little beauty guinea pig, multi coloured nails and all! But for all you Superdrug lovers I thought It best to calm down, try out all the products for a few days and give you the low down on some of the fab products available online and in store this summer.

NYC is a budget friendly line that I have to admit I have never really spent much time looking at before,often just passing by to look at more expensive brands, however it is certainly one I will be going to look at now.  I was lucky enough to receive 5 of their nail varnishes, the 3 on the left here from their ‘In a New York Colour Minute Quick Dry’ range and two from their ‘Long- Wearing’ range and I have to say i was more than impressed! Both sets have a fab long bottle neck which I find means the varnish lasts longer and there is far less waste. The consistency is quite runny which means you can build up the colour to how you want it and you can easily paint the nail in a couple of strokes. I tried out all the colours and it is such a great range for the money, particularly when I found out how amazingly quick drying these really were, they are definitely the easiest applied and best drying nails varnishes I have tried in a long while which equals a happy, manicured me!

In the above shot I am wearing left to right; 139B Plumberry, 247B1 Prince Street, 221B1 Spring Street, 238B1 Moma and on the thumb is the stunning  140B Empire State Blue. I have worn the hot pink one (Moma) now for 4 days and its only now starting to show slight tip wear which is amazing for such a budget brand, I cannot wait to get to my local Superdrug and discover all the other colours!

Handily I was also sent a bottle of  ’Sally Hansen Nail Shine Miracle 10 day Top Coat’ that I needed considering I now plan on painting my nails so many different colours in the coming sunny months, I tried it along with the Empire State blue and it performed amazingly. I am going to use it on my toes too as with the tootsies on show all summer they need to look their best and without having to re apply all the time. It is goes on so easily, dried really fast and gave my nails such a good shine- love it!

Now the other half of my package was all about the eyes, someone out there must have read my mind as right now my major beauty crushes are mascara and nails and I was lucky enough to be sent 3brand new mascaras to test out. Look out lashes, prepare to be glammed up!

So after running them all through my fingers for an embarrassing amount of time I set about the one my eye was drawn to first, the gleaming gold packaging of the L’oreal Volume Million Lashes-I am like a magpie when it comes to packaging!  Currently £7.99 in Superdrug I would say this one is  worth the money,the anti clump wiper for the brush ensures the wand coats all the lashes without pulling them together with excess product, a must for beauty on the go in summer time!

This mascara gives the lashes a great fullness and really made my eyes pop and in only one coat, it lasted the whole day and was mess free to apply, all that and it looks good on my dresser- a big thumbs up from me! I then moved on to the other two less expensive Mascaras, not expecting them to live up to the performance of the L’Oreal, but how I was wrong! I have now moved the 2 NYC mascaras right into my daily routine ( yes I will admit I wear 2 mascaras a day- cringe).  For the price of these well packaged sleek beauties they are well worth picking up, both the curling and the lengthening ones do the job perfectly, giving a great natural finish that wore so well over the day. Easy to both apply and remove I found these fab and will work well for you if you are looking for a little extra length to open up your peepers or to curl the lashes for that summer flirty look.

An average day starts at 7am i get up, have a million cups of tea then it’s about time for me to start getting ready which takes on average 1hr, then it’s time to drive to work which takes about 30 minutes, I work as a barmaid so i get to work early to clean everything then open at 11am and start serving!
When i’m finished work i usually try and either meet up with friends or go out and do something with the family.

 On some days i won’t start until 1pm because i will be working the late shift i prefer this shift as it gives me a bit of time to walk the dog and do all the boring things like pay bills and stuff.  I hope a day in my life hasn’t been to boring for you to read about!

I received a wonderful box of goodies on Saturday and I would like to tell you about them.

Elite Luxe Laque nail polish in a beautiful red shade, it went on like a dream with no runny blobs that you get with some nail polish and I was very surprised at how quickly it dried to a lovely high shine finish. It looks today which is 3 days on just like it was applied. No chipping and still a very glamourous shine!

Cosmopolitan make up artist sponges are lovely and soft with a great feel to them, they seem to apply your foundation very evenly with no darker patches that I have found with some sponges.

Cosmopolitan RealTouch amazingly real nails, style no.21, I dont think I have seen false nails look so real before! They even have a side shadow effect which is lovely! They feel quite real and not just pieces of hard plastic like some of the current ones do. I have grown my own nails but I do buy false ones in case I break one of my own. I just pop on a falsie to complete my full set of lovely looking nails.

Cosmopolitan 4 way nail buffer, well what can I say? These are invaluable. You use side 1 for evening out ridges, side 2 for smoothing the nail surface, side 3 to buff the nail surface and finally side 4 to give a really high shine to the nail surface. I have had one of these before from another manufacturer and it was totally flat so wasn’t really that easy to use but this one is shaped perfectly to use without having to keep wiggling it over your nails.

Olay Deep Wrinkle Treatment, I have a couple of deep wrinkles on my forehead and I really think this works. It has a precision applicator so you don’t waste any and can easily precisely put it where your problems are. I think its helped already and I have only been using it for 3 days!

Elite velvet compact foundation, a great looking box with a lovely sized mirror so you can easily apply it on the go. I know why its called velvet foundation because it is very silky and lightweight and does exactly what it says on the box!

Elite Blush, lovely little blush set with its own brush that glides on great and gives a natural looking glow to the cheeks.

Repulp Gloss (plumping lipgloss), glides on the lips beautifully and tingles slightly but the result is a slightly plumped up gorgeous coloured rehydrated lips. Great product.

Smartigloss lipgloss, very pretty slightly glittery that glided on lovely and looked really nice and natural with a slight sparkle that looked great.

Crayon Contour eye pencil in black, great eye pencil that wasn’t too hard which I find that some are. Applied very easily with no crumbling and looked great!

I hope you like my reviews on my goodies as much as I have enjoyed testing and reviewing them!
