For the final challenge I have used all the products that Superdrug kindly provided me to test out which ones truly outshine the rest. I am tired of my boyfriend nagging me to hurry up when I get ready in the morning. I wanted to give him a glimpse of how wonderful it feels to pamper yourself once in a while.

I think he’s a virgin to most of the products I’ve tested, but luckily he was up for the challenge.

Do boys like to pamper themselves as much as us girls?

That’s not all, I want my human guinea pig to see the difference it makes spending that little extra time in the bathroom. I may regret the decision to enlighten my beauty-ignorant boyfriend; as who knows he could end up spending more time getting ready than me. Eek!

Here is a sneak peak of the before and after. How I got there; you’ll have to wait and see.

Here comes the bride…

With it being wedding season I can’t help but sit and plan my big day. No I’m not about to be married; I’m not even engaged, but since my fellow blogger Amy revealed she was engaged I haven’t been able to stop thinking of what I would do on my wedding day. I’m currently unemployed so girly television is the main part of my day. Four Weddings and Don’t Tell the Bride are regulars on my tv screen and it makes me think of all the possibilities at a wedding. It’s not just the dress; but the venue, the cake, the food and the honeymoon must all be perfect. Nobody wants a bad wedding especially when weddings are so critically judged by the guests.

I thought I’d compile a wedding checklist, I mean who needs a wedding planner when you have a blogger with plenty of time on her hands.

Before I start, I’d strongly suggest you check out your local wedding fayre, they are brilliant in showing what’s on offer. It’s hard to know what’s available until you go to one of these events.

It’ll be stressful but as long as you make a checklist and keep a file with all the necessary documents in; you’ll be fine. Don’t let the groom get out of the hard work, boss him around and make sure all the finer details are perfected with the help of your loved one.

Treat Mate!

Hopefully if you read my post about our last summer challenge and what I have planned, you will have been sitting all week on the edge of your seat, dying to know what happened to my friends and the treats I set them up with to try out.

Well the wait is over, it is time for the first ever blogisode of Treat Mate is here!

*CATCHY/ANNOYING THEME TUNE*

Hello! And welcome to today’s edition of Treat Mate, the show that pairs some of my lovely friends with some of the generous goodies sent to me by Superdrug loves. In this blogisode we meet my lovely best friend Mairead, her Mum Helen and my amazing flat mate Amy. So let’s jump right in and see how they got on…..

The Treats

Mairead:

A red headed beauty from Glasgow with a passion for Mascara and Rom coms.

First Impressions-Mairead said: “ It was a good size tub, and it looked nice. The consistency looks like it could be a little thick for me thought”

The date: “I really like it despite is being thick it went on really well and made my skin lovely and smooth and wasn’t sticky.”

Will they be seeing each other again? Yes! Over all she loved the smell and texture- yay! Giving this body butter a great over all score of 8 out of 10!

Not bad at all, our first Treat Mate was a success. Not only did Mairead try out the body butter for us but she also used the Superdrug Essentials Face wipes and found them to be a great size and loved the smell and there is a chance she will be seeing them again too!

Now lets find out if our second contestant was as lucky with her products…

A wizard in the kitchen and an all round superstar Mum.

First Impressions: Helen said “The packaging looks good and looks expensive. Smells like it is from a hair salon but without being too strong.”

The date: “The shampoo was creamy and had a good lather, it felt smooth to use and the conditioner made my hair feel really soft.”

Will they be seeing each other again? Helen told me she was happy with her bundle and is going to carry on going using them but she is not quite ready to commit so is unsure if she will be repurchasing yet, She gave the set a healthy 7 out of 10 so only time will tell they will be together forever ( or even just a little while!)

I am so jealous, the new Scandalous rangeexclusive to Superdrug looks (and smells!) amazing, and I had a quick go of the coconut body butter too and it is definitely a bargain must have, it is 2 for £4 right now! Helen also tried out the Cocoa and Shea Butter Bath Milk and loved it, saying the smell was lovely, it made lots of bubbles and her skin felt really soft afterwards! She gave this bath time treat an amazing 8 out of 10!

Last up on todays installment is Amy, I wanted to find out how she got on trying out a new spot zapping stick

The Treat:

A super fit, super fun flat mate with a soft spot for a love ballad or two.

First Impresssions: Amy said “I liked the bright packaging, the stick itself is compact and easy to use. I loved the fresh tea smell and the handy roll on application.

The Date: ” Really nice to use, I felt like it refreshed my skin and I could feel it drying out my spots instantly.”

Will they be seeing each other again? Amy said she would totally buy this product again, she felt it helped clear up her skin and didn’t feel to harsh like a lot of other products she had tried! A big thumbs up from her and with the tea tree oil and manuka honey ingredients it is no wonder! Amy gave this spot fighting hero a great 8 out of 10!

I have got to get me one of those sticks, there are a few blighters on my chin that could use a zap! Amy was also good enough to try out the Scandalous Red Alert Heat Protection spray for us. She loved the packaging and thought the spray was nice and light to use. So another win for the Scandalous range.

2True Lip and Cheek Stain rave review

In amongst all the last challenge madness I realised I hadn’t taken the time to share one of my favourite products I depend on Superdrug for. I first dabbled with the 2True range last year, using their nail varnishes and liquid eyeliner which were great. Seeing as the range is 3 for £5 it is amazing value and well worth going to explore. I had to share my bargain secret to a rosy glow, I bought the blush pink and rose lip and cheek tints and I LOVE them. They are total staples in my daily routine now and recommend you try them out, I had wanted to try out a tint for ages with the ever popular Benefit Posie Tint and Benetint being talked about everywhere but sadly being out of my price range.

Excuse my stylishly chipped nails here! So the light pink may look very electric and yes it does go on the skin this bright…

But once you rub it in right along your cheek bones and put a nice dollop of the darker stain on the apples of the cheek-it really does work into a lovely stay all day blush. I have used these every day since I got them and they are incredible value for money, great for beauty in a hurry and have good staying power. I have used the higher end versions of these and the only difference I can tell is in the smell. These 2True ones don’t have a glamorous smell but not a horrible one, I cannot remember the last time someone sniffed my cheeks anyway!

The little glass bottles are portable and handy to carry for any touch ups but I doubt you will need it. They both look lovely on the lips too so you can experiment with that. The bottles have lasted me forever, a little goes a long way making these even better value for money.

I received a new nail varnish from 2True in my final challenge pack which I can’t wait to show you. I totally recommend exploring this range if you haven’t already! I hear the 3 in1 concealer is amazing for covering under eye circles and I am really keen to try out the Matt Powder.

Finding Superdrug’s future customers, today

Everyone’s heard of Superdrug, right?

It’s certainly been a staple part of my shopping experience since I was in my teens – from Collection 2000 and Exclamation body spray in year 9 to miniature perfumes and Oxy cleanser in year 10.

So here’s the thing, what about the people who are too young to have really heard about Superdrug yet? What if I could get to them, before say, Boots did?

Then I would be creating a loyal breed of consumers, just ready and waiting to shop ’til they dropped…

And so that’s what I decided to do.

RAISING MONEY

Calling on four of the fabbest girls I know – the ‘Fab Four’ – I invited them, and a host of other people, to a Superdrugloves.com Blog Benefit Sale in aid of UNICEF’s Pakistan flood relief fund.

I’ve been trying to think up a way to raise money for Pakistan since the flooding happened and UNICEF’s appeal really struck a chord with me as it looks after children, who often cannot look after themselves. I thought if we could make the even the tiniest difference, then that had to be better than nothing, right?

And now, about the girls – all gorgeous, and all beginners with the concept of make-up, facemasks and other such girly things. And quite rightly so, because they’re all under 12.

However, there’s nothing to say that in applying make-up they have to end up looking like baby beauty queens. I wanted them to explore, have fun, spray things, spritz things, paint things and
enjoy themselves so that when they are finally old enough to think about make-up and beauty stuff seriously, they’ll think of Superdrug.

So, let’s get to it shall we.

THE SALE

Included in the sale were all the fabulous goodies sent to me in my last brown paper package tied up with string, minus the shampoos and conditioners from the Scandalous range because, honestly, I was desperate to try them out myself – a review of which will feature later this week.

Also included in the sale, was a collection of things from Superdrug that I had stored carefully after the initial testing, plus a few little bits and bobs I’d bought for the occasion.

And, just so I could keep track of everything, and also find out a little bit about my consumers, everyone had to fill in a questionnaire relating to Superdrug and the sale.

LONDON COUSIN 1

First up, was London Cousin 1. She’s 10 and on the Superdrug Blog Benefit Questionnaire listed her staple beauty brands as TRESemmé and Pantene. She pounced on the Barry M Emerald Green nail polish, listing her reason for buying it as, ‘I loved the vibrant green – it’s so cool!’

LONDON COUSIN 2

London Cousin 2, who’s 8, has never shopped at Superdrug, and listed Colgate toothpaste as her beauty staple! Teehee! When she’s older I’m going to teach her how brilliant that is for spots as well as teeth, but in the meantime, she was much too interested in the 2True Glitter Mascara, and a face pack…

MINI BLANCO

Then, there was Mini Blanco – she’s 10 and likes Pantene, but soon declared that she’s moving onto bigger and better things with the Superdrug’s new Scandalous range – she pocketed the Intensively Glossy Rescue Treatment because she loved the smell of it and as her hair was always knotty this might solve the problem. She also enthusiastically got to grips with the Barry M Glitter Lashes (available in store), which she thought was, ‘funky and cool’. She then stumbled across a face mask, which for some reason became her foundation! Perhaps the most enthusiastic of my Superdrug Protégés, this was her finished look!

MIDI BLANCO

And the final member of the Fab Four was Midi Blanco. She was a (shhhh) Natural Collection fan, but I soon changed that! Keen to make sure her money was well spent, she tried out five different nail polishes before choosing the Revlon Nail Enamel in Red Hot Tamale because it looked the smoothest. She also chose the Revlon Va Va Violet Super Lustrous Lipstick because, she said, ‘It looked surprisingly good on me!’ So that’s that then – move over Natural Collection, Revlon’s here!

Honestly, my four Superdrug protégés took to the task with more enthusiasm than I could ever have imagined. They backcombed and set their hair in place with Scandalous Flaunt It Firm Hold Hair Spray, they applied face masks and eye shadow and bright red lipsticks with glee, and they discovered the art of applying mascara and nail polish with care so that it didn’t go everywhere – well almost everywhere.

SPREADING THE WORD

And then, they declared, they wanted to take the campaign to the streets. Spread the word about Deafinitely Girly and Superdrug, and show off their new looks.

And so, we did.

Armed with my advertising board, and with Maxi Blanco filming, we hit the main road near the sale venue and what fun the Fab Four had.

‘Shop at Superdrug,’ they told passers-by, grinning with enthusiasm. At one point they actually stopped traffic, which they then used as an opportunity to spread the word even more.

It was amazing. I had succeeded in finding Superdrug’s future customers today, and I had raised a total of £75 for UNICEF!

And, so long as Superdrug has plenty of hair spray, glittery things and nail polish, these four are going to be very happy customers!

Look out Superdrug, they’re on their way…

Ever since 2007 I have made an appearance at Leeds Festival, whether it’s for the weekend or for the day, I have been present. I’ve been through the sunburn, the floods, the exhilarated feeling and been left wanting more, but I’ve always had a good time.

This year I had vowed not to go – simply because the music of last year left me a little underwhelmed – that was, until I saw the headliners of Blink 182 & Paramore on the same day. It was a must. A Saturday ticket was tracked down.

I have to admit we didn’t utilise our time there very well, in terms of music. We only made it into the ‘arena’ for Limp Biskit at 4.30pm, despite getting there at midday. What can I say? Festivals were made for drinking!
We missed their iconic ‘Rollin’ which means we didn’t get to recreate the fabulous dance routine – but all was not lost.

6.45 saw Weezer take to the stage – I only know the famous songs, that being a vague knowledge of ‘Pork & Beans’ and every word to ‘Beverly Hills’ but they took on ‘Teenage Dirtbag’ which I imagine was them being ironic at people thinking it was their track (actually is Wheetus) but I’m not sure everyone understood it!
Lady Gaga & MGMT were thrown in for good measure, so even if – like me – you weren’t all the familiar with the band, they put on a brilliant show & just might have been the favourite of the day.

Next up was Paramore, which are one of my all time favourite bands – I saw them a few years back when they only half filled the field for main stage, this time there was definitely a bigger audience, however I think their scheduling was a bit of a mistake. Putting them between the random, running around act of Weezer and having them followed by the legend that is Blink 182 made them look a little sad. They definitely didn’t ensue the same energy, which was a little disappointing – but Hayley William’s outfit made her look brilliant, more points gained there!

Cargo pants, exactly what I’m on the lookout for – loving the crosses on the knees as well. Twitter followers of Hayley Williams have been trying to track down where her outfit was from ever since she came on stage!

Finally came Blink 182. People were getting pretty crazy before they even came on, the audience were asked to move back 3 steps as people on the front rows were getting crushed. My boyfriend had lost his friends in the process of making his way to see his childhood heroes, I think it was worth it.

They put on an amazing show, going through all the classics, which made me realise how much I like them. They threw in a lot of banter which made for a great show. They were there with the audience, they didn’t make the same mistake the Red Hot Chili Pepper’s did a few years back, leaving the audience bored with their over indulgent guitar solos, Blink played for the audience and even came on for an encore, which saw Travis Barker absolutely killing it on the drums. I like drummers.

So, I’d like to say I’ve seen all the bands I need to in my life, and while I love the festival bubble, I stand firm in saying I won’t be attending next year – but let’s see what happens when the line up comes out.

FINAL POST = X FACTOR FINALS?

I’ve noticed that a couple of Insider’s have posted some of their ideas for their final posts so I thought I’d do the same. If all goes well the X Factor should be coming to a Superdrugloves blog near you soon! Unfortunately I am more prone to idea disasters rather than successes…so wish me luck….

Sudocrem: Wonder cream for spots!

I just wanted to share what I have been using the past few days on a particularly annoying little break out of spots around my chin. I first read about this remedy for drying them up fast in Look magazine. It reported that Cheryl Cole (she of gorgeous skin!) swears by this stuff to clear up any blemishes,and if it is good enough for her it is definately good enough for me!

I first tried it a few months ago and was really impressed by how well it works for me and I wanted to share it with anyone else looking for a cheap and effective treatment. I bought a handy little portable tube size (30g) of it for under £2 in my local superdrug and the assitant even mentioned that so much of it had been bought since the magazine had been out! You can buy a huge tub of it that will last you for ever here.

The cream is designed for nappy rashes on cute little babies but for me it works wonders with just a little dab of it on any problem areas, I let it soak in over night ( I wouldn’t recomend using it in the day as it does go on really white!) and in the morning I found it has usually dried the spot out and taken out any redness. I actually have used this other places for dryness and also on the heels of my feet which are always rubbed and sore and this really helped!

Does anyone else have any handy tips for clearing up pesky spots?

I’m sure everyone is excited to see what’s going to happen in the final challenge of the Summer!

I recieved a huge parcel in the post last week filled with lots and lots of hair, body and beauty products to try and test in whatever way I want. Superdrug have left it to us to decide what we want to do for our final challenge which allows us to get really creative!

I have a few ideas in mind and I can’t wait to get started on them! I’m being a bit daring and doing something no one has done yet – so fingers crossed it all goes to plan! I’m not going to give too much away so keep your eyes peeled for my upcoming final challenge posts!!
