You may have heard that the new face of Superdrug is Joanna Page! We’re so excited. Joanna will feature in tv adverts, radio ads and in-store promotional material. Joanna wont be appearing as her character from Gavin & Stacey but herself – in all her natural beauty.
Joanna was chosen for her down to earth nature and because it was felt she is very accessible & friendly for Superdrug customers.
So watch this space in October! What do you think of our choice?

Celebrities are everywhere. Â Not only in the films they star in, the music videos they perform in or the runway they strut down but on our tv screens promoting some of the latest beauty products.
These familiar faces may not even really like the products they are selling but they are signed up by the biggest brands in an attempt to persuade us, the customer, to buy the advertised items. Â If you think about it; it’s an easy way for these household names to get extra money and publicity. Â The only catch is loyalty. Â Once signed to a company the celebrities must only be seen to use that brand’s products. Â Not only that, but they cannot be seen to bring bad press to the company either. Â Pressure all round it seems!
Celebrities who have got into trouble:
Cheryl has advertised hair products on our tv screen for as long as I can remember now, but the geordie lass got into trouble when it was revealed she was wearing hair extensions when promoting restoring shampoo and conditioner. Â She was not dropped by the brand but it caused a lot of controversy in the press. Â You may see that since then; in a small font at the bottom of the advert; something along the lines of Cheryl is wearing hair extensions. Â Well done L’Oreal!
Kate was reported to have been dropped as Rimmel’s main face after she was spotted taking Cocaine. Â Rimmel began using other celebrities in their new campaigns and product launches in an attempt to repair their reputation.
With Tiger Woods being in the media limelight after committing adultery, Gillette and other big brands such as Gatorade, decided to cut ties with the golfing star.  The loss of million dollar endorsements was a massive set-back for Woods but the brands were only keen to use him as long as his image was reputable.
I’d love to say I don’t get sucked into the marketing ploys companies use to sell their products, but I’m sure at some point I’ve been drawn to one product over another similar one; simply because a celebrity I liked was promoting it. Â I hate that that’s the case, but we are living in a society where celebrities have a lot of influence on our behaviour.
Look at the products below and guess the celebrity face to match
Number 1
Number 2
Number 3
If you thought that was easy don’t get too complacent, I’m going to make things a little harder. Let’s see if you can name the celebrity simply by looking at the product.
WARNING ANSWERS BELOW
Bonus – Kate Moss, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Lily Cole, Georgia May Jagger
You will now have some idea of how much celebrities influence you; possibly without you even realising it. Â The higher the score the more likely it is that celebrities are influencing what you buy.

I couldn’t believe how much Superdrug sent me this time round; 2 whole boxes of amazing stuff. Â In the first box was a whole hair care range (yes range!) from Scandalous and in the next box I received a tonne of products including Bloom & 2True make up, a 4 step tanning system from Professional Finish – Flawless Tan some Superdrug own brand things like make up wipes, moisturisers, hair care and body care… I really could go on!
Upon opening the boxes I realised how greedy I can be because I wanted to keep the whole lot to myself and didn’t want to share them with anyone moohahahahaaaa! Greed is one of the 7 deadly sins and I figured that since I’d already been capable of this reaction, I’m sure the rest of my week would be just as ‘sinful’ without even trying.
Envy
Pretty much as soon as I opened the second box, my fiancé got ‘envious‘ of all my goodies and grabbed the TZone Nose Pore Strips. After following the instructions; wetting the strip and leaving it on for 10 mins, he was disappointed that the did not work.  Thinking that he might not be too good with these things I tried one on, following the steps on the packet like Dave had done and still no sign of removing blackheads.
Lust
The summer weather has been glorious in the South East, that was until August arrived. Â The one thing aside from the sun that most would say they have been ‘lusting‘ after, is a suntan. I went to the SW4 fest on Sunday so wanted to look my best as it’s the only festival I’m going to this year
so I decided to give in to my temptation for tan lust and use the self-tanning quartet in my superbox!
I prepped my skin with Step 1 Exfoliation & Skin Care I am quite picky about exfoliating products as I like them to make my skin super soft ready for a tanning product or just to make my skin look healthy and bright before a night out. Â I didn’t feel like the scrub was grainy enough for my skin and was a little worried as to how the tan would go on. It did have a lovely smell though and left a nice tingle when I got out of the shower. Step 2 was the Greedy Skin Serum, which sank straight in to my elbows and wrists without any tacky residue. I opened Step 3 Salon Tanning Lotion and put on the gloves that
come with it; the product has a guide colour that leaves you instantly greeny brown. There were pros and cons to this; I liked that I could see where I was putting the tan but didn’t feel that it blended in well enough at the time and was worried that it would go streaky – I was left with darker bits that looked like flaking skin! Fast forward a night’s sleep and panic over – not one streak!! I was quite shocked at how well it went on and what a lovely colour it was – not too light or dark. Lastly I used Step 4 Hydrant & Gloss Finish which left me nicely moisturised with a healthy glow!  Even though I got a great tan out of the product, I did find it a little messy but I’m sure I could get used to it.
Gluttony
I said before how greedy I felt when I opened the parcels in the first place. When I opened the whole box of Scandalous haircare, I wanted to use EVERYTHING! So I thought, ‘why not use everything, it’s yours right?’
Doh, I gave in again and pretty much used it all to give myself a good hair day at the festival.  I washed my hair with the Moisturising shampoo and conditioner which both smelled nice and left my hair feeling averagely smooth (remember I have bleached hair so it takes a lot to make my hair feel smooth and healthy!). I then used the Red Alert Heat Protection Spray which was weightless and gave me peace of mind that I was protecting my hair from my hairdryer.  I haven’t used a mousse in years but thought I might as well give the Voluptuous Boost Volumising Mousse a go. I took a larger-than-walnut-sized amount (it’s nigh on impossible to get a walnut-sized dollop of mousse!) and put in on my roots; I think I should have added more as I have a lot of hair but wanted to follow the instructions.  It didn’t feel sticky so I was pleasantly surprised.  Before blow-drying, I used the Seductive Shimmer Serum spray over the whole of my hair, concentrating on the ends. I’m a bit of a hair product snob and usually favour salon products so I didn’t hold out much hope for the serum but it left my hair feeling rather sleek afterwards, I really liked it!
The mousse gave my hair volume but nothing too mad! Â I used some of the hairspray and found that to be very lightweight, after one spritz. Lastly I used the Luminous Shine finishing spray, which smoothed the stray hairs at the top to complete my gluttonous look!
All my efforts turned out to be all in vain since the heavens opened at the festival and I ended up looking like this!

Superdrug is doing a special offer on this hair care range – all products for £3.50!
Sloth
Work’s been pretty hectic of late and I was feeling a little delicate from the day before so I decided to have a day in front of the TV and do NOTHING!! While doing this, I washed my hair with the Scandalous Moisturising shampoo and gave myself a well-needed intensive conditioner. If I’m honest, the Intensively Glossy Rescue Treatment made my hair feel no more smooth than the Scandalous Moisturising Conditioner and even when I blow-dried it, it did not feel any softer. This might have something to do with the product advising to only leave the conditioner in for 30 seconds and I perhaps should have used my own judgement and left it in for longer. Since I was having a lazy day ‘slothing‘ about I decided that I would leave my hair to dry naturally with the curling product. Rock Chick Wave Spray which I felt worked rather well to help my curl spring up.
Pride
The following day, I had to wake up for work… it was too early to wash my hair in the morning so I embraced my natural ‘fro’ from the day before. Because it was dried naturally, I had gotten a little greasy so I decided to preserve my dignity and ‘pride’ and use the Fabulously Flirty dry shampoo to disguise what was really going on. Not to sound gross but I’m quite a fan of dry shampoos, reasoning that they provide a good surface for up-do’s when hair is too fine and flimsy and they offer a good bit of freshening up in between washes. This dry shampoo was no different to those I’ve tried in the past and I’m pleased to report that it worked well and smelt great!
Wrath
M
ost sins complete, I was left with one sin that I had not experienced (this week), wrath – I’d had a pretty good week and didn’t feel vengeful or angry! Red is the colour associated with anger and it just so happens that I was sent 2 red nail polishes in my box of tricks: 1) Bloom in Sofia 2) 2True in Shade 5 (we’ll call this a red for the purpose of this exercise but it’s more of a coral). They both went on well and came off not so well, leaving me with red fingers afterwards
I couldn’t find these on the Superdrug website but Superdrug is doing a 3 for 2 offer on Bloom nail varnishes and a 3 for £5 offer on all 2True products.
So that was my week of sin… I have to say it felt pretty good
 Thank you Superdrug once again!

P.S. Ooooh get this – as I was writing this post, I was watching Ultimate Big Brother and the housemates started talking about the 7 Deadly Sins…. weird!!
This final challenge is a beauty (pun intended!) I was bowled over by the humongous boxes Superdrugloves sent me, packed full of amazing goodies to review in what ever way I liked.
After getting over the excitement of the best delivery in the world, I spent a night carefully poring over every item and thinking of what way I want to present them to you guys and have fun with it. Now there was no way I could keep all of these amazing products for myself, this challenge was definitely one for sharing, and I think my amazing group of friends deserve to be treated and pampered too, which is how I landed on the idea of……TREAT MATE!
In the late 90’s Davina Mccall used to run around matching people up on Street Mate, sending strangers on dates and seeing if it worked out. So channelling my inner Davina, I have matched my friends up, just this time with products which I think they might like, instead of people. We are going to be looking at their first impressions, their hot product date and whether or not they will be using it again!
So tune in to the blog next week to find out if my friends and their products are a match made in heaven or just a one date wonder!
CONTESTANT NUMBER ONE….COME ON DOWN!

Unlike Ke$ha  I rarely wake up feeling like P.Diddy, however the sun was out and the birds were chirping so I was a pretty happy bunny this morning as It’s FRIDAY!  I feel that needs capital letters as it has been a very long week.
I decided it was high time to wear my gorgeous new Vivienne Westwood for Melissa shoes
After my usual muesli and green tea I peruse my work emails, personal emails and have a quick go on the ipod app ‘angry birds’ since it would be rude not to and I am slightly addicted.
I quickly nip to the ladies to slap on an extra bit of Bourjois lippie before I face the meetings of the day.
The highlight meeting was one with our chartered jet company to explain why they don’t seem to have any control of their call centre staff, as funnily enough I can’t say that I was happy being told that an entire trip had to be cancelled because the crew had no visas so couldn’t land at the destination!
Lunch was taken up with a whistlestop tour of the Oxford Street department stores to pick up some gifts and dodge those perfume squirters who seem to have the dexterity of ninjas.  The way they come at you with their bottle of scent trying at all costs to squirt you is an amazing, if annoying skill.  Then a quick trip to Superdrug to stock up on my favourite product , the non-acetone nail polish remover which is the best  one ever. Then I rush rush rush back to the office via a bit of tourist redirection…well if you will ask me how to find the pub from Eastenders I can’t really help you!
The afternoon is taken up with more emails, filing, meetings and calls and one by one everyone starts to leave early to get away for the long weekend and enjoy the last few hours of sun. Â As I commute from Kent the journey home is a numbers game of tube and train balancing and I have got it down to a fine art of minimum timings – although if there are delays this usually involves a sprint across Victoria station, which is probably a good thing as I don’t have time to stop at Krispy Kreme which I might otherwise be tempted to do.
I pick up my little mini Betsy (don’t ask, I am far too old to name my car really) and then off to the gym to work off the Winter pounds. Â After my Jane Fonda moment I head home to feed the cat and make some dinner. Â The BF greets me with a loud snore as I open the door so I tiptoe upstairs and have a quick update on my blog, twitter and youtube accounts then go back downstairs to make my favourite tea – Quorn Fajita Mountain, which basically came about as I don’t like having more than one fajita wrap at a time so I just pile up the filling on one wrap.
I try and convince the boyfriend that SATC 2 would be a great idea but get the usual ‘you must be joking’ look so I will have to try and find someone else to watch it with or wait until the DVD.  Oh to have a sister who would have to come with me to these sorts of things, it would be so handy!
After snuggling up to watch a few Sky+’d episodes of Glee we decide it’s been a long day so after I remove the slap and brush my teeth with my beloved Beverly Hills toothpaste it’s time for bed.

So this is quite a random post – as in not personal (apart from my opinion), not what i’ve been up to and nothing to do with beauty stuff…
But, I am sat watching The X Factor and felt it deserved it’s own post.
If you’re.. erm, lucky.. enough to be on Twitter while it’s on then your page is more than likely to be spammed with everyone’s thoughts on the programme. I began resenting this, because in all honesty, the people that are commenting on the contestants singing ability don’t have a clue – but last night i joined in anyway. There was no criticism on my part (apart from Miss Frank’s outfits – thumbs down) but it acted as a really good social night!
Saturday’s X Factor;
If you’re not a fan, I don’t blame you. I admit that I honestly love this programme and if i’m being even more honest, i’m happy to spend a Saturday/Sunday night watching this instead of the effort of going out, but, at the end of the day, it is just kareoke on a bigger stage.
But, if you haven’t watched this weeks episode, I suggest you take the time to google/youtube/ITV catch up to watch the twins (John & Edward) doing Britney’s Oops I did it Again.
It began with pure awful-ness, i was on the verge of switching over because of how cringey it was, but you get into it and realise it’s the most hilarious thing you have ever seen. Plus, the ‘breakdown’ with the talking – tv gold. I can see another ‘Same Difference’ situation, when they will be in until nearing, if not, the actual final show. I was crying by the end of the performance – I’m going to youtube it when i’m done here!
My favourite of the night was Ollie, Holly Willoughby tweeted about his shiny crotch, then later asked him about it on the Xtra Factor – gosh i’m being sucked in aren’t i? – he was closely followed by Stacey, I loved her version of Etta James and I am a big fan of hers!
Sunday’s X Factor;
This is the main reason for me posting this, tonight saw the debut solo performance of Cheryl Cole and the ‘come back’ showcase of Whitney Houston. Now, I don’t know what the papers are going to do because a lot needs to be said. Cheryl was amazing – serious. I am pretty sure she managed to sing live, despite the rumours of pre recording that have been circulating this week. There was also a dance ‘breakdown’ at the end – very Janet – which she pulled off immaculatley. I’m in two minds about her outfit, although she could pull it off very well, I fear there will be too many high street copies which i am dreading.
Then, onto Whitney Houston’s performance. I’ve never been all that bothered about Whitney, I know she’s seen as this huge idol, but I just don’t really hold her as a top preference, or at all really. Anyway, another memorable performance there, not sure if it’s for the right reasons. She didn’t seem all that bothered about being there, her dress broke (or came undone or something?) and then Dermot’s interview at the end was dead. She appeared a little… off? A bit fishy… A couple of the people i follow on Twitter have named it the X Factor ‘Sherbet’ after Robbie’s shifty performance last week. She also didn’t seem at all bothered about the contestants when Dermot asked for her opinion, which, although it is Diva week, just seemed a little self righteous for me, she hasn’t gone up at all in my estimations – i’m sure it wasn’t the ‘come back’ she was hoping for…
Tonight saw Rikki leaving, after he and Rachel were put in the bottom two. I wasn’t a fan of either really, but he had a far better chance of going further than she will do. Another Twitter conspiracy is that Simon voted to keep Rachel because he knows she’ll be going home next week – we’ll see.
Next week is Big Band week, which I can’t wait for. I love big band! Frank Sinatra is more my style than Whitney Houston, and i’m sure if he could be there, he would put in a far better input than her (oooo).
There will also be an appearance from Westlife on Sunday night, another band which should have probably not bothered with the reform, although i suppose chart success is inevitable there…
Gosh, I hope i didn’t sound too newspapery there, just wanted to put my thoughts in ![]()
Have you been watching? Who are your favourites to win?
I will be backing Stacey and Ollie for the moment, only a recent convert to Ollie after last night though. That girl from Dagenham is a legend.
Night xx
