Sneak preview

For the final challenge I have used all the products that Superdrug kindly provided me to test out which ones truly outshine the rest.  I am tired of my boyfriend nagging me to hurry up when I get ready in the morning.  I wanted to give him a glimpse of how wonderful it feels to pamper yourself once in a while.

I think he’s a virgin to most of the products I’ve tested, but luckily he was up for the challenge.

Do boys like to pamper themselves as much as us girls?

That’s not all, I want my human guinea pig to see the difference it makes spending that little extra time in the bathroom.  I may regret the decision to enlighten my beauty-ignorant boyfriend; as who knows he could end up spending more time getting ready than me.  Eek!

Here is a sneak peak of the before and after.  How I got there; you’ll have to wait and see.

Keep an eye out for my next post, you wouldn’t want to miss it!

Bio Oil me up!

I just have to declare to you all who I am in love with.

I am sorry Boyf it is not you I look forward to getting into bed with, it is my face, coated in a nice layer of Bio Oil!I just have to declare to you all who I am in love with. I am sorry Boyf it is not you I look forward to going to bed with, it is my face, coated in a nice layer of bio oil. I honestly think this stuff has turned my face around in the last year, and I am still only half way through my first ever bottle! I have a terrible time with picking, spots, scab, my nails. You name it and I could probably while away the hours picking at it. Sigh, it has plagued me all my life and it came to a head a year ago with a cheeky little white head that appeared under my eye, near the top of my cheek bone. In a particular face picking rampage I decided this white head was for the off, so I picked the poor thing clean out and what a mess it left my face in, leaving a healing scab that no amount of smoke and mirrors ( foundation and concealer!) could cover. So I had to work hard to leave it to heal, which eventually it did, leaving in its wake a big horrible uneven looking scar. I was gutted and so annoyed with myself, here was my permanent reminder of how silly I am at not leaving these blemishes in peace. So after years of hearing about bio oil and what it can do for stretchmarks and scars I decided I had to at least try it out and see if in the long term it could help me. I have never looked back! Honestly this little bottle costing me under a tenner really has changed my face, the scar has faded right now, as have other little scars I had from past picks and I continue to put it on every night as I feel it really evens out my skin tone which has always been a problem for me. I cannot sing its praises enough, I have used it on scars and stretchmarks and with continued and dedicated use it brings cracking results. It will most likely be a staple on my dresser for years to come, looking wisely down upon all the less effective lotions and potions that will get tried out and chucked in its wake. ” target=”_blank”>Bio Oil!

Fair skin tips for the summer!

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (5 votes, average: 4.20 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

Whilst Bronzers are a summer staple for girls with a healthy holiday tan, summer makeup for pale girls can be much more of a challenge. As a girl that only freckles, never tans, I know the pain of being ghostly while everyone around me slowly browns.

Fake tan is a no go for me (it just makes me look silly!) so I have to make do with what I have. Luckily for me being fair skinned has become much more popular this year thanks to pale beauties like Nicole Kidman, Nicola Roberts and Lily Cole. They’ve definitely made it easier to find a decent foundation that doesn’t leave you looking just plain orange.

I know how tough it can be to find a good summer look, so I’ve been experimenting and coming up with some tips for those of us who can’t get brown!

My top tips:

+ Whatever you do, do not overdo your foundation! For fairer skin high factor sunscreens are a must (unless you want to end up with a very unflattering pink nose) and no matter how invisible your protection is with foundation and sweltering heat it’s a recipe for disaster. Try and blend it carefully to problem areas such as under the eyes and nose, or try and brave it bare. Remember sunshine is good for your skin as

All Freckles and No Tan!

long as you stay well protected!

+ It might sound obvious but match your colour! Fair skin really shows up poorly matched foundation and bright sunshine will only make that worse. If you’re having trouble finding light enough shades then check out Maybelline’s Dream Matte Mousse range for great pale shades like Champagne, Ivory and Porcelain. (£6.99 at the moment with a 3 for 2 Deal at Superdrug!)

+ Just because we can’t bronze doesn’t mean we can’t shimmer! Pick up my current weapon of choice, Shimmer and Shade from the underrated Collection 2000. This is a great alternative to bronzers for us pale girls. Illuminate your cheek bones and under the brows with the shimmer and blush up the apples of your cheeks with the shade.

+ Heavy lipsticks are also a no-go for the summer. For pale skinned girls a really bright red lipstick can be fantastic, but on summer days is far too vampy. Switch it for a clear or light coral gloss to match your skin without drowning you out.

+ Finally, grab yourself some good makeup remover that’s gentle on the skin. Hot weather melts makeup quickly and you can end up with heavy panda eyes in the afternoon. Keep your skin and pores clear by keeping your makeup in place.

I hope these tips were helpful to all of the fair skinned beauties out there. Summer needn’t be trouble for us anymore!

Superdrug’s Simply Pure is simply fabulous!

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (2 votes, average: 4.00 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

When the lovely people at Superdrug sent me some of their new Simply Pure goodies to try I was over the moon. I’d just landed back in the UK after a year’s travelling and my skin was paying the price. I suffer from eczema and have been searching for years for gentle products that don’t aggravate it. Step forward Simply Pure, my knight in shining armour.

I’ve been using the Gentle Facial Wash, Gentle Eye Make-up Remover, Smoothing Face Scrub and Light Moisturiser for two weeks now and am simply loving the results. The Simply Pure range is specially formulated for sensitive skin. It’s fragrance and paraben free (parabens are much talked about chemicals that are becoming increasingly controversial), hypoallergenic, dermatologically approved and suitable for vegetarians and vegans. And if that wasn’t good enough the range is currently on offer starting at only £1.49.

The Gentle Eye Make-up Remover deserves a special mention because it’s really gentle but it still took off all of my eye make-up quickly and effectively. Usually eye make-up removers aggravate my eyelids and bring on my eczema, but after two weeks using this one I’ve had no problems at all (and I’ve been wearing loads of mascara) so I’ll definitely be stocking up on it. I also loved the Light Moisturiser, which really lives up to its name. It’s light and absorbs quickly, leaving skin feeling soft and refreshed. I’ve been using it twice a day for two weeks and my skin is looking great. It’s a steal right now at only £1.49 online!

Review: Simple – Spotless Skin!

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (26 votes, average: 4.15 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

Here are the lovely Simple products I received. These particular products are unique to any other skin care products I’ve seen before; this is because they have Zinc and Chamomile in them. So, what’s so good about Zinc and Chamomile?

  • they help to clear your skin
  • tame the oil in your skin
  • soothe your skin

Therefore, preventing you from getting spots! As for the price, these products come at a real bargain; ranging from £2.99 to £4.99 – grab them now whilst the 3 for 2 offer on skincare is still on!

After using each of the products I could tell my skin had been cleansed thoroughly, my skin had a lovely healthy looking glow to it. All of the products left my skin feeling noticeably softer and moisturised – other brands I’ve used previous to this have left my skin feeling tight and dry – I can reassure you, these products don’t do that.

  • The Quick Fix Cleansing Wipes did a good job at removing my make-up and if you’re in a hurry these are great for people on-the-go!
  • The Triple Action Face Wash did an even better job at removing make-up and dirt underneath my skin – it gave a really deep cleanse and I could definitely notice a difference in my skin after this.
  • The Blackhead Eliminating Face Scrub is amazing, after using this all over my face, particularly focusing on problem areas, my skin felt brand new and unbelievably smooth – try it for yourself!
  • The Anti-Blemish Moisturiser, I was really impressed with this, it went on easily and felt light on my skin, it soaked in fully within a few minutes leaving it feeling really moisturised and smooth. This is a really versatile moisturiser which is great for using in either the day or night.

As for the claim to “get results from day one” – this is most definitely true, the next day my skin appeared clearer and I couldn’t wait to use them all over again! After using these products for just over a week now, I can see a tremendous difference in my skin – if you stick to using them daily you really can’t go wrong. I suffer from occasional breakouts on my forehead and around my chin but by using these products I’ve seen an amazing result. A definite 5 stars all round for these products!

The Simple Truth

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (2 votes, average: 4.50 out of 5)

I was lucky enough to get to try out the new Simple teen skin range, which includes Simple Triple Action Face Wash, Simple Quick Fix Cleansing wipes, Simple Spotless Skin Blackhead Scrub and Simple Anti-Blemish Moisturiser.

I think this range is great! First using the cleansing wipes to clean away dirt and get my face ready for washing, no bad smell and didn’t dry out my skin

The face wash usually they leave my skin tight and dry but this face wash left my face feeling smooth and moisturised! It has little bits like a scrub would have that you massage into your face and helps to leave your skin lovely and clean.

The blackhead scrub is a thick-ish white creamy formula that scrubs the skin clean, perfect for hard the nose and chin and any other problem areas, you only need to use a tiny amount to get great results.

The Moisturiser was lovely and smooth! It instantly absorbs and you only need a small amount and it left my face smooth and silky!

I think this is the best teen skin range on the market, I have tried most of the brand names and they all leave a little to be desired but this range has everything you could want, and more!

My box of goodies !!

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (1 votes, average: 5.00 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

I received a wonderful box of goodies on Saturday and I would like to tell you about them.

Elite Luxe Laque nail polish in a beautiful red shade, it went on like a dream with no runny blobs that you get with some nail polish and I was very surprised at how quickly it dried to a lovely high shine finish. It looks today which is 3 days on just like it was applied. No chipping and still a very glamourous shine!

Cosmopolitan make up artist sponges are lovely and soft with a great feel to them, they seem to apply your foundation very evenly with no darker patches that I have found with some sponges.

Cosmopolitan RealTouch amazingly real nails, style no.21, I dont think I have seen false nails look so real before! They even have a side shadow effect which is lovely! They feel quite real and not just pieces of hard plastic like some of the current ones do. I have grown my own nails but I do buy false ones in case I break one of my own. I just pop on a falsie to complete my full set of lovely looking nails.

Cosmopolitan 4 way nail buffer, well what can I say? These are invaluable. You use side 1 for evening out ridges, side 2 for smoothing the nail surface, side 3 to buff the nail surface and finally side 4 to give a really high shine to the nail surface. I have had one of these before from another manufacturer and it was totally flat so wasn’t really that easy to use but this one is shaped perfectly to use without having to keep wiggling it over your nails.

Olay Deep Wrinkle Treatment, I have a couple of deep wrinkles on my forehead and I really think this works. It has a precision applicator so you don’t waste any and can easily precisely put it where your problems are. I think its helped already and I have only been using it for 3 days!

Elite velvet compact foundation, a great looking box with a lovely sized mirror so you can easily apply it on the go. I know why its called velvet foundation because it is very silky and lightweight and does exactly what it says on the box!

Elite Blush, lovely little blush set with its own brush that glides on great and gives a natural looking glow to the cheeks.

Repulp Gloss (plumping lipgloss), glides on the lips beautifully and tingles slightly but the result is a slightly plumped up gorgeous coloured rehydrated lips. Great product.

Smartigloss lipgloss, very pretty slightly glittery that glided on lovely and looked really nice and natural with a slight sparkle that looked great.

Crayon Contour eye pencil in black, great eye pencil that wasn’t too hard which I find that some are. Applied very easily with no crumbling and looked great!

I hope you like my reviews on my goodies as much as I have enjoyed testing and reviewing them!

Review: The Best Skin Exfoliators

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (1 votes, average: 5.00 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

I recently tried two great skin exfoliators. Personally I find it hard to come across a good exfoliator that actually does what it’s supposed to do.  Of course using a brush works great but I feel it can be very harsh on the skin – and using gels or lotions doesn’t always scrub the skin well enough.

I tried Lula Bloom Blooming Radiant Shower Exfoliator & Naturals Coconut & Shea Butter Body Polish. Both were actually really great – I am going to sum up which one is best:

Lula Bloom Blooming Radiant Shower Exfoliator smells beautiful, very fresh and tropical like. The texture is a thick gel, it has very small grains of almond shell which do make the skin feel slighty softer but I feel if it had lots more grains it would work a treat. Lula Bloom also includes Rice Bran oil which is a powerful antioxidant which has apparently been used as a popular beauty treatment in Japan for years. The great thing about this is it comes in a huge 500ml bottle for only £3.50! Which is a massive bargain for what you get.

Naturals Coconut & Shea Butter Body Polish is my favorite out of the two. The bottle is packed full of coconut shell grains which really exfoliate the skin – my skin felt so soft! The scent reminds me exactly of sun cream – very coco-nutty and lovely. It has a lotion/creamy texture which helps to moisturize the skin. This one comes in a 200ml bottle at £2.19 – well worth it and probably one of the best exfoliants I have used to date!

I would highly recommend both, but if you are looking for a more vigorous exfoliator (that isn’t painful!) then Naturals Coconut & Shea butter polish is fabulous.

Pump it Up!

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (6 votes, average: 4.00 out of 5)

When Superdrug asked me to test the revolutionary demo expertise L-Oreal Youth Code I was slightly miffed…anti wrinkle cream, moir? I know I’m in my 30s, but surely I don’t need to start worrying about wrinkles yet?

Whilst waiting for my goodies, still feeling a little dubious, I thought I’d do a little research.  The reviews I found were amazing, miracle in jar, gene genius in jar, can’t live without it, its a must…10 years in the making.the list goes on.

Is it really a miracle in a jar, or is the scientific mumbojumbo just another gimmick?

Miracle cream

The Rejuvenating Anti-Wrinkle Day Cream contains ‘pro-gen’ technology which is designed to help tired skin recover and re-establish its natural youthfulness. The claim is that this cream will somehow help your skin ‘re-set’ its own genetic code and so will help to make you look younger.

Day 1

The packaging looks great, upon opening there weren’t any obvious scents, however, when I dipped my finger in, and first applied it to my face, it felt I was applying velvet all over my face. The texture was so smooth, that you almost have to be careful not to apply the whole jar, it felt weird, as my skin totally absorbed it, relishing in the delight of getting a min facial. I was able to apply my makeup over the top of it literally straight away. It made my face look a little plumper and certainly more radiant, but truly didn’t realise the effects until later in the day whilst shopping in Sainsbury’s.

I got stopped by a market researcher, and she said she didn’t want to sell me anything but wanted to ask me a question, firstly whether I was of Italian, Greek or Spanish origin…and I said none, but indian (wandering where the hell this was leading) and then she said, it was because my skin looked so radiant, that she just had to stop and ask what was my secret.  Well, I wasn’t really sure what the answer was, was it this little miracle cream in a jar, or was it because I looked a little flushed, as I’d just spent an hour at the gym?

I’ve continued to wear the cream for 10 days, loving the complexion it gives me, I found my skin less drier, however I haven’t noticed a significant difference in the lines on my face…not that there were too many in the first place!

I’m sure, if you’ve got wrinkly skin, you would be able to see a vast improvement, but for now, for me its not a miracle in a jar…but a little mini- facial x

Thumbs up to L’Oreal Youth Code

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (15 votes, average: 3.47 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

OK, sometimes I swear the peeps at Superdrug’s HQ really can read my mind.

Just last week I was staring miserably at my face in the mirror – examining the wrinkles, feeling the dry patches caused by the appalling weather we’ve been having recently and my obsession with walking to work – and I wished silently that a miracle product would land on my doormat.

Well, I can confirm that miracles do in fact happen as just a day later, a box of the latest products from L’OrealYouth Code – arrived.

Now, my Ma uses the ‘grown-up’ L’Oreal Wrinkle De-Crease Collagen range and swears by it – so much so that I actually gave her the whole collection for Mother’s Day last year – what a nice daughter I am, confirming my Ma has wrinkles eh?!

Anyway, here’s what the peeps at L’Oreal have to say: Mature skin and young skin behave differently when exposed to external aggressions. As you age, skin takes longer to recover and responds more slowly. The complexion loses luminosity, facial features appear tired and wrinkles deepen.

Eek!

I guess that’s why they created Youth Code then – a range which promises to leave your skin hydrated, smoother and more radiant. Apparently, it will also nourish the skin with moisture and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and help to improve the skin’s ability to behave more youthfully. When tested by 229 women, 78% of them agreed that their skin looked rejuvenated, 69% felt their wrinkles appeared reduced and 71% though their features appeared rested.

So what did I think?

Rejuvenating Eye Cream

First of all I opened the REJUVENATING ANTI-WRINKLE EYE CREAM, £10.99, and gently dabbed it around my tired peepers – exhausted from having fun! It smelt fabulous, went on easily and afterwards my skin felt incredibly soft.

Rejuvenating Day Cream

Next I unwrapped the REJUVENATING ANTI-WRINKLE DAY CREAM, £9.99, which again smelt gorgeous as I rubbed it into my face, paying close attention to my windswept cheeks. Peering in the mirror, I was pleased that my skin looked happier to be hydrated. I also love the idea, from the L’Oreal peeps again, that it will help my skin to behave more youthfully, too – perhaps I’ll start getting ID’d in bars again!

Rejuvenating Concentrate

Then I got to work targeting the BWA – bad wrinkle areas – with the REJUVENATING ANTI-WRINKLE CONCENTRATE, £10.99. These seem to be my forehead – all that thinking I do, obviously… and I LOVE IT – if anything because it reminded me not to frown and create that line in the first place – smiling only please – and also because it really did make my skin feel better.

What’s even better is that the prices above include a fab saving of £5 on each product – so you can look good for less!

Whoop!

And what did other people think as they’re the ones that can actually see my face, not me!

Well, after deliberately leaving my make-up off for a few days, colleagues commented that I looked great – in spite of being make-upless, and I noticed that my morning walk to work didn’t leave me with such red cheeks and dry patches.

 It works!

So make that 230 women who approve of L’Oreal Youth Code!

Back to the Old School

To me, Impulse fragrances are just the girls equivalent of Lynx. They remind me of my teenage years (..well, the younger ones anyway), and i remember how excited i was when ‘Thrill’ came out – buying 3 at a time and using them within a fortnight – seriously.
S6301589These days I’m not bothered, i got one for Christmas and it’s gathered dust in the back of my drawer.

But then! (Did you see that coming?) Laura from Unilever kindly scent me two bottles of their new body spray to try out; it brought me back to those middle school days i tell you.

I’m sure the majority of you are familiar with the Impulse brand. With The Saturdays featuring in the new ad, I’m sure they’re going to be pulling in a few members of the older market & this fragrance is perfect for that.
I honestly love it.
It’s very musky, very night time. It has “a blend of exotic oriental scents and citrus notes that will leave you subtly and exquisitely perfumed”.
It’s another point I’m going to have to agree with – it’s in no way over powering. I wear my normal perfume then spray this all over just before i leave the house and i just think it adds a little something extra.

Impulse, if you don’t already know, isn’t expensive at all (under £2 a bottle). It’s just a product to add a little something different to your daily routine. I really do recommend you pick this up on your next shop!

…I feel my lighting is very boudoir – completley unintentional, but awfully fitting non?

Vitamin E Facecare Box

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (4 votes, average: 4.00 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

MAIN LOGO

There’s nothing quite like choosing a gift for someone and knowing they’re gonna love it.

At Christmas you get the opportunity to do this in bulk, which is why  I love Christmas shopping.

This year is slightly different however, I am strapped for cash after buying my first flat *squeak, and in the run up to Christmas, I have more hospital visits scheduled, which may well leave me with very little time left.

This means I gotta plan my shopping carefully.

So imagine my delight when a box of fabulous Christmas goodies arrived from Superdrug!!

Now I could plan Christmas from the comfort of my sofa – and with online shopping at Superdrug.com, so can you.

Hurrah!

I’m a Christmas list maker extraordinaire – actually I’m an anything list maker extraordinaire – and in the run up to the festive season, my filofax contains an Excel spreadsheet with all my family and friends on, my budget, ideas for gifts, and what I’ve bought for who.

Geeky? Of course! But that’s just the way I’m made.

So naturally, I got out my list, to see what gift would make my friends and family coo with delight.

First up is the Vitamin E Facecare Box.

Vitamin E

This one is definitely perfect for mums, as mums are always the most busy at Christmas, so therefore need the most TLC. And, at just £9.99 and currently in a 3 for 2 Christmas Gifts promotion, it won’t break the bank either.

It really is easy as 1, 2 ,3, 4 with this Vitamin E Facecare Box, which contains a Gentle Face Wash, Facial Scrub, Illuminating Moisture Cream, and Gentle Eye Cream with SPF 15, so your mum will be left feeling wonderful with minimal effort. The Illuminating Moisture Cream will be just the thing as she freshens up on Christmas Day and the Gentle Eye Cream is ideal for keeping tired eyes happy throughout the festive season.

My own Ma has been run very ragged recently, what with me and French Cousin 3 being in hospital, so I decided Christmas had to come early.

Naturally, she loved it and for that wonderful look on her face as she opened her gift, so did I!

With six other gifts to think about, check back to find out who’s getting what next!

Emergency trip to Superdrug

I’m sorry, I know I’ve been quiet recently, but I’ve been recovering from having my appendix removed.

*sniff

However, now I am finally off the woozy drugs, my brain is finally getting back in gear and I can write again, feeling that I make some sort of sense…

When I was in hospital, I lamented about how my beauty regime slipped. I have limited stuff available and the hygiene regime of constantly using antibacterial gel, although brilliant because it kept me bug free, played havoc with my skin. It was literally flaking off my hands.

When I left hospital, I was in no fit state to pack to return to The Rents so, gold star to them, they packed for me. And the result?

A rather eclectic collection of outfits, that I never have assembled before, but might see the dawning of a whole new style for Deafinitely Girly, and a rather bizarre bag of beauty bits.

You see, Pa was in charge of wash bag and he threw it together from a man’s point of view, so I got:

Toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, the randomest collection of make-up ever – once again, encouraging me to go for new looks, and a hair brush.

Now, in the first week, when all I could do was lie down and stay awake for 20 minutes at a time, this was fine. But this week, I am more mobile, I can look in mirrors, and it ain’t pretty, let me tell you. My face needs exfoliating, my nails are a mess, my hair – don’t even go there, I can’t put bronzer on as I don’t have a brush, and my eye brows are threatening to put me on a par with Yeti.

Problem was, there was nothing in my wash bag to rectify that.

This called for an emergency outing to Superdrug for some supplies – it as in fact my first jaunt into the outside world and I have to say I was a little nervous, not least because I looked like Yeti and people were staring.

Anyway, after not being in a shop of any kind for over a week, it was fab to start in the pink shop in The Rents’ local market town. It sits, prominently on the High Street, next to New Look and has 3 bursting aisles of goodies.

But, I had to control myself. I was here for de-Yeti-ing essentials – that would also be pampering enough, pink enough and fabulous enough that they would cheer me up.

First, I found the make-up section and managed to resist buying at least 20 things I didn’t need, and the blusher brush I did need.

Then, just by that, I found the nail polish remover – perfect for sorting out the botch job I did, two days after my operation when still high on painkillers.

use3

In this section, I also discovered the cutest miniature Bourjois Nail File and some tweezers – bye-bye hedgy eyebrows…

Use6

This led me into the miniature section, where I treated myself to a St Ives Apricot Scrub for my face, which promised to be invigorating and it really was.

Use7

On a roll, I popped some mini Batiste Dry Shampoo in my basket – for the days when I can’t face washing and drying my hair but want to look erm… less Yeti.

use2

Finally, at the till, where all the goodies lie temptingly, I spied some Antibacterial Hand Gel – perfect I thought, to use in conjunction with a hand cream – to keep me bug free during my recovery.

use4

At the till, this all totted up to a not-painful-at-all £13.11, which considering I splashed out on mini versions – often not that much cheaper than full-size versions – I was very happy with.

Use1

All that was left was to get home and get cracking on my makeover.

Hmmm, maybe I’ll have a snooze first…

The Usual Suspects?

I was insanely excited about my final Superdrug prize – my Summer Insider Handbook promised a health and beauty goody bag, which was more than a little fabulous don’t you think?

And here’s what I got…

Picture 1

Now, I use all these big brand names but I have never used these particular products before. I like these companies’ products but would I like this lot?

Only one way to find out…

Aussie

Suspects 1 & 2

Aussie Miracle Moist Shampoo and Conditioner Travel sizes

Familiar only with the conditioning mask from this range, I was intrigued by these little tester bottles, and I’m a sucker for trial sizes as it leaves more room in my suitcase for shoes. Anyway, these were meant to leave my dry and damaged hair soft and smooth, and they actually did. Gone was the need for Frizz Ease before styling, and I could just use a Toni & Guy Heat Protector to get the sleek, polished look I was after. They smelt great – not too chemically – but the only thing that I didn’t like about them was the packaging. They looked like Pantene imposters, which was a real shame as the actual Aussie packaging is more Aveda-styled bottles.

Suspect 4

Dove Supreme Cream Oil Body Wash in Luscious Velvet and a Bath Puff!

I’m a big fan of Dove deodorant and body moisturizers, but I have never bought shower cream from this brand before. The label describes a blend of rich cream and luscious softening oil that will leave every inch of my skin supreme – like velvet.

That’s quite a promise!

Anyway, I have to admit the smell was gorgeous – quite intoxicating in the shower and best of all, I could smell it on my skin afterwards. I have quite dry skin normally, but this definitely helped my skin feel and stay supple throughout the day. It was also fabulously bubbly and created a great lather on my new bath puff. I love bath puffs and use them all the time, although my current on is on its last legs and is almost unraveled, so this one came at a great time. It was also smaller than the one I usually have, which made exfoliating knees and elbows and whole lot easier.

The Final Suspect

Max Factor Masterpiece Colour Precision Eyeshadow in Coffee

Now, I must confess, I don’t own any make-up by Max Factor. It’s not that I don’t like it, I just don’t get drawn to it when I am wandering through shops feeling a make-up splurge coming on.

Anyway, Benefit have recently brought out some crease-free cream eye-shadow and I love it so this was what Max Factor Masterpiece Colour Precision Eyeshadow had to compete with. And it didn’t quite cut it for me – it wasn’t as easy to blend or layer and I seemed to rub it off more than smudge it.

Think I’d rather wait until payday and head to Benefit to be honest.

So, whodunit? Which brand has stolen my loyalty away from what I usually use?

Dove

While there wasn’t really anything wrong with Aussie, I was disappointed with the Pantene-style bottles because for me it’s such a different brand from Pantene – it’s an original brand and this is not original packaging.

Dove however – no complaints at all. This is sitting proudly in my shower and my usual Imperial Leather wash is banished to the cupboard for emergencies…
