For the final challenge I have used all the products that Superdrug kindly provided me to test out which ones truly outshine the rest. I am tired of my boyfriend nagging me to hurry up when I get ready in the morning. I wanted to give him a glimpse of how wonderful it feels to pamper yourself once in a while.
I think he’s a virgin to most of the products I’ve tested, but luckily he was up for the challenge.
Do boys like to pamper themselves as much as us girls?
That’s not all, I want my human guinea pig to see the difference it makes spending that little extra time in the bathroom. I may regret the decision to enlighten my beauty-ignorant boyfriend; as who knows he could end up spending more time getting ready than me. Eek!
Here is a sneak peak of the before and after. How I got there; you’ll have to wait and see.
Keep an eye out for my next post, you wouldn’t want to miss it!

Hopefully if you read my post about our last summer challenge and what I have planned, you will have been sitting all week on the edge of your seat, dying to know what happened to my friends and the treats I set them up with to try out.

Well the wait is over, it is time for the first ever blogisode of Treat Mate is here!
*CATCHY/ANNOYING THEME TUNE*
Hello! And welcome to today’s edition of Treat Mate, the show that pairs some of my lovely friends with some of the generous goodies sent to me by Superdrug loves. In this blogisode we meet my lovely best friend Mairead, her Mum Helen and my amazing flat mate Amy. So let’s jump right in and see how they got on…..
The Treats
Superdrug Coconut body butter
The Mate
Mairead:
A red headed beauty from Glasgow with a passion for Mascara and Rom coms.
First Impressions-Mairead said: “ It was a good size tub, and it looked nice. The consistency looks like it could be a little thick for me thought”
The date: “I really like it despite is being thick it went on really well and made my skin lovely and smooth and wasn’t sticky.”
Will they be seeing each other again? Yes! Over all she loved the smell and texture- yay! Giving this body butter a great over all score of 8 out of 10!
Not bad at all, our first Treat Mate was a success. Not only did Mairead try out the body butter for us but she also used the Superdrug Essentials Face wipes and found them to be a great size and loved the smell and there is a chance she will be seeing them again too!
Now lets find out if our second contestant was as lucky with her products…
The Treats:
Scandalous Gorgeously Rich Moisturising Shampoo and conditioner
The Mate
Helen:
A wizard in the kitchen and an all round superstar Mum.
First Impressions: Helen said “The packaging looks good and looks expensive. Smells like it is from a hair salon but without being too strong.”
The date: “The shampoo was creamy and had a good lather, it felt smooth to use and the conditioner made my hair feel really soft.”
Will they be seeing each other again? Helen told me she was happy with her bundle and is going to carry on going using them but she is not quite ready to commit so is unsure if she will be repurchasing yet, She gave the set a healthy 7 out of 10 so only time will tell they will be together forever ( or even just a little while!)
I am so jealous, the new Scandalous rangeexclusive to Superdrug looks (and smells!) amazing, and I had a quick go of the coconut body butter too and it is definitely a bargain must have, it is 2 for £4 right now! Helen also tried out the Cocoa and Shea Butter Bath Milk and loved it, saying the smell was lovely, it made lots of bubbles and her skin felt really soft afterwards! She gave this bath time treat an amazing 8 out of 10!
Last up on todays installment is Amy, I wanted to find out how she got on trying out a new spot zapping stick
The Treat:
T Zone Instant Action Spot Zapping Stick
The Mate:
Amy:
A super fit, super fun flat mate with a soft spot for a love ballad or two.
First Impresssions: Amy said “I liked the bright packaging, the stick itself is compact and easy to use. I loved the fresh tea smell and the handy roll on application.
The Date: ” Really nice to use, I felt like it refreshed my skin and I could feel it drying out my spots instantly.”
Will they be seeing each other again? Amy said she would totally buy this product again, she felt it helped clear up her skin and didn’t feel to harsh like a lot of other products she had tried! A big thumbs up from her and with the tea tree oil and manuka honey ingredients it is no wonder! Amy gave this spot fighting hero a great 8 out of 10!
I have got to get me one of those sticks, there are a few blighters on my chin that could use a zap! Amy was also good enough to try out the Scandalous Red Alert Heat Protection spray for us. She loved the packaging and thought the spray was nice and light to use. So another win for the Scandalous range.
That is all from Treat Mate towers for today but you wont have to wait long for the next instalment. Get ready to meet the lads in my life as they head on their blind date with some Superdrug goodies.

Everyone’s heard of Superdrug, right?
It’s certainly been a staple part of my shopping experience since I was in my teens – from Collection 2000 and Exclamation body spray in year 9 to miniature perfumes and Oxy cleanser in year 10.
So here’s the thing, what about the people who are too young to have really heard about Superdrug yet? What if I could get to them, before say, Boots did?
Then I would be creating a loyal breed of consumers, just ready and waiting to shop ’til they dropped…
And so that’s what I decided to do.
RAISING MONEY
Calling on four of the fabbest girls I know – the ‘Fab Four’ – I invited them, and a host of other people, to a Superdrugloves.com Blog Benefit Sale in aid of UNICEF’s Pakistan flood relief fund.
I’ve been trying to think up a way to raise money for Pakistan since the flooding happened and UNICEF’s appeal really struck a chord with me as it looks after children, who often cannot look after themselves. I thought if we could make the even the tiniest difference, then that had to be better than nothing, right?
And now, about the girls – all gorgeous, and all beginners with the concept of make-up, facemasks and other such girly things. And quite rightly so, because they’re all under 12.
However, there’s nothing to say that in applying make-up they have to end up looking like baby beauty queens. I wanted them to explore, have fun, spray things, spritz things, paint things and
enjoy themselves so that when they are finally old enough to think about make-up and beauty stuff seriously, they’ll think of Superdrug.
So, let’s get to it shall we.
THE SALE

Included in the sale were all the fabulous goodies sent to me in my last brown paper package tied up with string, minus the shampoos and conditioners from the Scandalous range because, honestly, I was desperate to try them out myself – a review of which will feature later this week.
Also included in the sale, was a collection of things from Superdrug that I had stored carefully after the initial testing, plus a few little bits and bobs I’d bought for the occasion.
And, just so I could keep track of everything, and also find out a little bit about my consumers, everyone had to fill in a questionnaire relating to Superdrug and the sale.
LONDON COUSIN 1
First up, was London Cousin 1. She’s 10 and on the Superdrug Blog Benefit Questionnaire listed her staple beauty brands as TRESemmé and Pantene. She pounced on the Barry M Emerald Green nail polish, listing her reason for buying it as, ‘I loved the vibrant green – it’s so cool!’
LONDON COUSIN 2
London Cousin 2, who’s 8, has never shopped at Superdrug, and listed Colgate toothpaste as her beauty staple! Teehee! When she’s older I’m going to teach her how brilliant that is for spots as well as teeth, but in the meantime, she was much too interested in the 2True Glitter Mascara, and a face pack…
MINI BLANCO
Then, there was Mini Blanco – she’s 10 and likes Pantene, but soon declared that she’s moving onto bigger and better things with the Superdrug’s new Scandalous range – she pocketed the Intensively Glossy Rescue Treatment because she loved the smell of it and as her hair was always knotty this might solve the problem. She also enthusiastically got to grips with the Barry M Glitter Lashes (available in store), which she thought was, ‘funky and cool’. She then stumbled across a face mask, which for some reason became her foundation! Perhaps the most enthusiastic of my Superdrug Protégés, this was her finished look!
MIDI BLANCO
And the final member of the Fab Four was Midi Blanco. She was a (shhhh) Natural Collection fan, but I soon changed that! Keen to make sure her money was well spent, she tried out five different nail polishes before choosing the Revlon Nail Enamel in Red Hot Tamale because it looked the smoothest. She also chose the Revlon Va Va Violet Super Lustrous Lipstick because, she said, ‘It looked surprisingly good on me!’ So that’s that then – move over Natural Collection, Revlon’s here!
Honestly, my four Superdrug protégés took to the task with more enthusiasm than I could ever have imagined. They backcombed and set their hair in place with Scandalous Flaunt It Firm Hold Hair Spray, they applied face masks and eye shadow and bright red lipsticks with glee, and they discovered the art of applying mascara and nail polish with care so that it didn’t go everywhere – well almost everywhere.
SPREADING THE WORD
And then, they declared, they wanted to take the campaign to the streets. Spread the word about Deafinitely Girly and Superdrug, and show off their new looks.
And so, we did.
Armed with my advertising board, and with Maxi Blanco filming, we hit the main road near the sale venue and what fun the Fab Four had.
‘Shop at Superdrug,’ they told passers-by, grinning with enthusiasm. At one point they actually stopped traffic, which they then used as an opportunity to spread the word even more.
It was amazing. I had succeeded in finding Superdrug’s future customers today, and I had raised a total of £75 for UNICEF!
And, so long as Superdrug has plenty of hair spray, glittery things and nail polish, these four are going to be very happy customers!
Look out Superdrug, they’re on their way…
————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
*Special thanks go to London Aunt, Mrs Blanco, Riddles of Mind and Danish Pastry for their amazing enthusiasm on the day, too! Mainly Clarins fans, I had them ooohing and aahing at the new Scandalous Haircare range, fighting over GOSH Velvet Touch Foundation Primer, Superdrug Mango & Papaya Body Polish, and Superdrug Cocoa Butter Body Butter, and enthusing about T-Zone’s Instant Action Spot Zapping Stick and Instant Fix 6 Nose Strips, the latter of which, I’m afraid I won the fight for, as I had been wanting to try them for ages! And of course, let’s not forget the wonderful Maxi Blanco who was a brilliant help – she’s 14, and went away with the biggest beauty bag out of everyone. Originally an ‘occasional’ shopper at Superdrug, she’s now a fan of the 2True make-up range, the Scandalous Haircare range and the Vitamin E Illuminating Cream.

I just have to declare to you all who I am in love with.
I am sorry Boyf it is not you I look forward to getting into bed with, it is my face, coated in a nice layer of Bio Oil!I just have to declare to you all who I am in love with. I am sorry Boyf it is not you I look forward to going to bed with, it is my face, coated in a nice layer of bio oil. I honestly think this stuff has turned my face around in the last year, and I am still only half way through my first ever bottle! I have a terrible time with picking, spots, scab, my nails. You name it and I could probably while away the hours picking at it. Sigh, it has plagued me all my life and it came to a head a year ago with a cheeky little white head that appeared under my eye, near the top of my cheek bone. In a particular face picking rampage I decided this white head was for the off, so I picked the poor thing clean out and what a mess it left my face in, leaving a healing scab that no amount of smoke and mirrors ( foundation and concealer!) could cover. So I had to work hard to leave it to heal, which eventually it did, leaving in its wake a big horrible uneven looking scar. I was gutted and so annoyed with myself, here was my permanent reminder of how silly I am at not leaving these blemishes in peace. So after years of hearing about bio oil and what it can do for stretchmarks and scars I decided I had to at least try it out and see if in the long term it could help me. I have never looked back! Honestly this little bottle costing me under a tenner really has changed my face, the scar has faded right now, as have other little scars I had from past picks and I continue to put it on every night as I feel it really evens out my skin tone which has always been a problem for me. I cannot sing its praises enough, I have used it on scars and stretchmarks and with continued and dedicated use it brings cracking results. It will most likely be a staple on my dresser for years to come, looking wisely down upon all the less effective lotions and potions that will get tried out and chucked in its wake. ” target=”_blank”>Bio Oil!

So I came home from work the other day to find yet another lovely delivery waiting for me! A nice shiny silver package with an Andrew Collinge address sticker on… exciting!
The first thing I noticed when I opened the package was that I could already smell the products before I’d even opened the bottle… and anyone who has read previous posts of mine knows a lovely smell in a product goes a long way with me! I’ve tried out both of the ranges I got so I can give you as good a review as I can.
Andrew Collinge PURITY Smooth Therapy Shampoo
‘An exotic blend of soothing Echinacea, naturally cleansing Manele and nuturing herbal extracts.’ I loved this shampoo! It had a really natural smell to it, it’s quite hard to describe, but unlike any other shampoo I have used in recent years. I liked the fact it wasn’t a stereotypical smell… not fruity, or even like a typical salon product, but had its own nice distinct smell that you could smell for ages after you’d washed it…even the next day! The shampoo lathered well too.
[Echinacea - a flower from the Daisy family, often used in herbal medicines. Manele - a natural cleanser.]
Andrew Collinge PURITY Smooth Therapy Conditioner
‘A fusion of nourishing peach nectar and replenishing Bringjai extract.’ I’ve mentioned in a previous post that I love Aussie products as they smell of peach, so I was excited to see this had peach extract in! It smelt really nice, however I think I would of preferred if the conditioner matched the shampoo smell to double the strength of the distinct scent. I definitely noticed that my hair was smoother the next day and I kept stroking it, my hair also felt slightly lighter and bouncier than usual! It also looked shiny as well… I was really impressed with the Smooth range, especially as my hair is in quite a bad condition at the moment as I really need to get my split ends cut at the hairdresser!
[Peach nectar - A sugar rich liquid found in flowers, which has a strong scent and is a great source of nutrients. Bringraj extract - Used as a tonic for hair care, it can help hair loss and premature greying, as well as give a calming effect.]
Andrew Collinge PURITY Colour Therapy Shampoo
‘A special blend of nourishing Blue Lotus Root and vitamin rich Perilla Seed Oil.’ If I’m completely honest I wasn’t as impressed with the Colour Therapy range. The Colour Therapy has more of a fruity smell than the smooth shampoo, I still really loved the strong smell but it didn’t stand out as much as I’ve smelt similar poducts before. I also found that this shampoo didn’t lather as well as the first.
[Blue Lotus Root - Is rich in Vitamin's B and C. Perilla Seed - Is part of the 'Mint' family, has a strong fragrance and is known for it's balancing properties - in providing vitamins and feeling of wellbeing.]
Andrew Collinge PURITY Colour Therapy Conditioner
‘A fusion of nourishing Blue Lotus Root, replenishing vitamins and UV protector.’ The smell of this conditioner matched it’s shampoo which I liked, unlike the Smooth range where the shampoo and conditioner smell differenciate. However I didn’t find that this conditioner really made much difference to the colour in my hair compared to products I’ve used in the past. It felt smooth, but also was quite hard to brush through once I had towel dried my hair, which is why I was much more impressed by the Smooth range.
I would be really interested in trying an Intensive Conditioner if they ever launched one as I like conditioners of quite a thick consistency. These conditioners weren’t particularly thick but this could be because a more Intensive style Conditioner could be introduced later on perhaps?!
I really liked the packaging of these products, I felt that the colours would look good in any bathroom. The choice of cream and light green colours and the little leafy pattern in the corner definitely gave a nature-like feel which works really well as the products are being marketed around the fact that they are ‘pure’ and use natural ingredients.
All the products are £4.99 which I think is a really reasonable price, especially as they are created by a well known hairdresser and use natural ingredients. There is also a Volume Therapy, and Hydra Therapy range as well. I would definitely recommend trying them out!
Armed with my digi cam, a piece of paper full of questions, and a £20 gift voucher I was generously given by Superdrug to spend on what I like, I went into my local store (Sutton) on Thursday to review my shopping experience!
The manager I asked for wasn’t in the store that day, however I got to speak to the customer service manager Dwight Adams instead. This actually worked out better as he works in various different branches so really knew about the Superdrug shopping experience. He was also my age so he was easy to chat to!
Customer service manager Dwight with another member of staff, Karen.
After heading out to the back through coded doors where the offices and CCTV were (ooh er), I asked Dwight my questions.
Firstly, what are the best selling cosmetic brands in Superdrug?
“GOSH cosmetics, which are exclusive to Superdrug, always flys off our shelves! People seem to love it. Barry M nail varnishes are always really popular, as soon as we put them on the shelf they’re gone again!
We have a 2 for £5 deal on the varnishes at the moment as well. [Note in the picture how many empty spaces there already are in the display!] Brands such as Max Factor, Maybelline and Loreal sell really well here too. The branch I work in more often, in Ashford, is more rural so slightly cheaper products such as Collection 2000 are really popular.”
What sort of experience do you aim to give Superdrug customers?
“We aim to put the customer at the heart of everything we do. That’s what I tell staff to do. We like to greet customers with a smile… everything is customer focused. 12-4 is our busiest period at the moment so we make sure there are enough staff to cater to the customer’s needs.”
What does it mean to you to be a Superdrug manager?
“I’m really proud as I started off in head office and now I work in stores, and I’m only 21. I like being able to manage and develop people and I enjoy the challenge of trying to win targets against other local stores. I like making the customers happy and try to do new things to surprise them and enhance their shopping experience such as have people welcome them in at the door.”
How many other staff do you have in this branch and what roles do they play?
“We have 20 staff overall. We have sales assistants who are there to help customers, till supervisors who make sure there aren’t queues and sell items, team leaders who keep everything in check, pharmacy managers who are qualified to provide medication and then managers and assistant managers.”
Lastly, how do you see Superdrug progressing in the future?
“I believe Superdrug has a bold future. We’re doing very well and are a great success. In the past Superdrug was more like Woolworths, you would go in to buy the essentials such as shampoo and soap. Nowadays it’s much more about fashion, we focus on cosmetics, trends and brands. People that shop here are more fashion conscious, and we’re now ‘Britain’s most fashion conscious health and beauty retailer’.”
After chatting to Dwight and taking photos, I had a wander round deciding what to spend my giftcard on! I ended up in the haircare aisle, which has so many neat and lined up goodies I could spend hours there.
I ended up buying 2 Aussie products as they are currently on a 2 for £6 promotion, and I’ve run out of my Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Deep Conditioner. I usually buy the one for colour treated hair but thought I’d push the boat out and buy the reconstructor one instead haha! All their products have seed oil in which makes your hair smell absolutely amazing and peachy and feel lovely. The conditioner is really thick so you only need to use a little at a time too.
I haven’t used the Miracle Hair Insurance Spray before, but will give people an update once I have! Once I’d chosen these, I still had £14 left on the giftcard so made my way to the make up aisle. Bright coloured lipsticks and nail varnishes were screaming out at me, but I don’t really need them so I decided to be sensible and buy things I do need!
I was looking for a good under eye concealer, so ended up choosing a Revlon Color Stay one. I only bought these yesterday so haven’t had the chance to try it out yet but it looks a bit tricky to use (or maybe I’m just stupid?!). I haven’t quite figured out how to get the actual concealer out yet, but the soft spongey top makes it look like it would be nice and smooth to put on.
I also bought a new face powder, and chose Rimmel’s Renew and Lift Brightening Powder with Minerals. I thought I’d give it a go and see if it did brighten my face and whether mineral powders are better than a general powder. I will let you know! Even though I’m always impressed with Superdrug stores anyway as they always seem clean and well presented, talking to Dwight made me realise the staff really are passionate about giving customers a good experience.
The way they focus on fashion as well as beauty, and the fact they always have great deals is why I’ll always shop there!
** Warning – Lots of posing photos and slightly creepy up-close eye shots ahead!**
I decided to do a day look with the Rimmel goodies… this is me before using the goodies (scary)!
I decided to base the look around festivals as bright colour seems to be the key. Anything goes as long as it’s bright! I chose to combine the blue Rimmel eyeshadow in 500 – Posh Peacock and the brown – 200 Spicy Bronze, with some other eyeshadow colours I already had.
I actually got the inspiration from ice cream! The brown Rimmel shadow symbolised chocolate, and then I used a creamy colour (Vanilla) and a baby pink (Strawberry) under my eyebrow arch, and then the Rimmel blue on the lid. This look isn’t really one I would wear often but I liked how the colours used together made them all stand out. The blue colour wasn’t one I would personally use often, but I really liked the bronze.
I felt the 1,2,3 Looks Adjustable Volume Mascara I used really made my eyelashes longer, although I didn’t quite understand the concept of the packaging but I’d definitely use it again anyway! To finish my eyes I used the Waterproof Eye Definer in 240 – Aqua Sparkle underneath to make them stand out more. I have a pencil eyeliner in this exact colour, and I find it really brings out your eye colour especially if you have blue eyes like me. This eyeliner was more of a creamy consistency which made it nicer to put on than the eye pencil I have.
To complete the day look I applied the Natural Bronzer in 022- Sun Bronze on my face, arms and chest to add some extra sparkle. I liked this, although it isn’t the best bronzer I’ve tried.
Lastly I added the Stay Glossy Lip Gloss in 040- Endless Summer to my lips. It was really soft to apply and smelled lovely even though I don’t usually use gloss!
On my nails I used the Rimmel nail varnish in 409- Coral Crush. I loved this colour as it was really summery and I was actually thinking of buying one in this sort of colour before this arrived so I was a happy bunny!
For a night time look I used the Bourjois goodies. I love experimenting with eyeshadow colours and inspiration, so with this one I decided to take the idea of a sunset. I used a yellow eyeshadow I already had under my brow, and a red eyeshadow on my eyelid. I then used the Bourjois 01- Intense Black eyeshadow in the contours to symbolise the night sky (cheesy haha).
To finish off the eyes I used Bourjois’ Mascara Elastic, which had an interesting looking applier! I liked this mascara but I think I prefer the Rimmel one just slightly, although I might change my mind! I’m rubbish with eyeliner so I attempted to use the Bourjois Felt Tip Eyeliner in 11- Noir and felt it didn’t look too bad considering! For those who use eyeliner a lot to do flicks and stuff and are much more talented than me, I reckon this would be ideal and easy to use.
On my face I used the Healthy Mix Foundation in 53- Light Beige. The first thing I noticed was the yummy smell as it has fruit extracts in! The pump made it easy to apply and I liked the coverage although I think the colour might be a little too dark for me in winter, I have a bit of a tan at the moment (only a bit though!) which meant it blended in slightly better.
The bronzer I used was Bourjois’ Bronzing Powder and I adored the packaging plus the bronzer looks like chocolate – yummy! I really liked the smell of this and preferred it to the Rimmel one. The blusher in 16 – Rose Coup De Foudre was in the cutest peach pot with flower decoration – I’m a sucker for nice packaging! The blush looked really cute on and smelt really strongly of perfume!
On my lips I used the Effect 3D Lip Gloss in 49 – Brun Rose Authentic. It made my lips look really shiny and smelt devine! I look forward to using the pink colour I got too (46 – Rose Lyric).
To finish the look I painted my nails using the 1 Seconde Varnish in No.13. I loved the colour of this and the added sparkle. The fan effect brush meant you could paint one nail in one stroke! It was so easy and the colour lasted for days without chipping, would definitely recommend this varnish!
I didn’t dislike any of the products, but the quirkness of the Bourjois packaging and the lovely fragrances has definitely made me a new fan!
A normal working day for me is a varied one, I work as a coordinator for the BBC in sunny (!) Scotland. I have worked in TV for the past couple of years and on the most part I love it. Not always glamorous the hours can be very long, but there are so many adventures to go on and new things to try, it is usually worth it in the end.
I am lucky that my day does start not as early as some, I don’t start till 9.30..ish and live nearby , so I often don’t drag myself out of bed until 8.45! I like my beauty routine in the morning to be quick and fuss free, I usually dry my hair at night and either tie it up in a messy bun or let it dry in pigtails, so as to give a relaxed and messy do the next day – one that hopefully looks like I meant it to look that way! Make up wise a touch of foundation to even out the ole cheeks, a healthy blob of under eye concealer, a swirl of blusher on the apples, some liquid black liner for the lids and lashings of Mascara is quick and easy to achieve while in a rush and keeps me from scaring the colleagues with morning face!
I really enjoy walking to work, it gives me time to wake up and look silly mouthing the words to whatever song is on my ipod! This walk is usually fine and pretty uneventful, I just have to wander through a tunnel over the motorway, over a bridge and I am there but not on the day I am considering sharing with the Superdrug world oh no- my usual bridge is looking a little difficult to cross…. A little later to work it is, oooops!
At work my day is usually a mixed bag of events, nothing too exciting is happening currently so I wont bore you. But here is where I sit and here is my lovely building, all open plan and always something random to look at or listen too. Celeb spotting and munching on delicious tray bakes in the canteen helps pass the time when I should be at my desk getting on with things! ( I promise I do actually work very hard and love most aspects of my job!)

Now in order to make my days seem slightly more glitz and glam I was pretty pleased to be asked to do this just before a black tie event I had coming up ( I do not get dressed up like this every day!) I finished at Uni a couple of years ago and while I was there I was involved in my Students Union and every year the president of the place is given a big fancy dinner in his honour, cue a few drinkies, fancy clothes and some bad dancing.

I was proud to be asked to attend along with some of our best friends to celebrate our friend Aarons great year in charge. I took the afternoon off work to go home and pamper myself and get ready, I love taking my time for a special night and getting right down to the details. Although it was dark inside so no one would really notice all this effort! It was an amazing night and well worth the worth the blisters, the headache and the dress covered in red wine! Needless to say the next day was a lot less productive than this one!
So there you have it, a snapshot of my life. I hope you enjoyed it and hopefully I will be back to share more summer adventures and hear some of yours soon.
Much Love

I overslept yesterday and missed the delivery of my Superdrug goodies. I was gutted; I had been looking forward to testing out my new products for days. The only thing I received through my door was a red slip from the Post Office saying I could collect my parcel the next day. All I could do was wait.
I woke up this morning bright and early, I was as excited as a kid on Christmas morning, only my presents weren’t nicely placed in the comfort of my own home, I had to trek it to the Post Office.
I signed for the package and unwrapped it there and then on the corner of the street…I know, I’m very excitable! So, there it was, all nicely wrapped in pink tissue paper, my box of heaven. I was shocked at just how much I had received; I was even more shocked that I had the one thing missing from my makeup bag at the moment… Mascara. Not just any Mascara may I add, this was L’Oreal’s Volume Million Lashes Mascara, the mascara I had been pondering over for the last week after seeing the fabulous Eva Longoria posing with it on my TV screen. Well now it’s mine. Thank you Superdrug you’ve made me one happy girl
Well as soon as I reached home the beauty regime began. Here’s what I discovered ladies…
Cosmopolitan Beauty Expert- Precision Tweezer Trio
I love this little pack. The three tweezers are nicely tucked in a cute cream pouch and come in three different sizes to suit those tricky plucking situations. There is one tweezer with a pointed tip which tackles the more stubborn finer hairs, a tweezer with a straight tip and one with a slanted tip for normal to coarse hairs. Now, I have never used any other tweezer than the average one you can find in any store, nor have I ever felt the need to test out any other type, but this kit has opened my eyes. I found that I could shape my eyebrows far easier than before and I could remove those horrible ingrown hairs which plague my bikini-line. I must say I am a tweezer convert.

I am one fussy girl when it comes to foundation. I have combination skin, so
buying the right foundation can be difficult. I usually spend a lot of money on foundation without hesitating as it makes me feel more confident, hiding away my spotty, dry but oily skin. I was unsure what to expect from this particular one, I have never heard of Elite so I had no preconceptions about its quality.
When I put it on I found that it was rather patchy. The makeup did not smooth across my skin evenly, which meant I had to keep adding more to my face, leaving me looking an unusual colour. I wore it for the day but I was not impressed with the level of coverage, I soon could see the imperfections of my skin.
I will not be changing my regular foundation for this one.

Elite Blush Secret Cheeks- Porcelain
I liked this product. The Blusher is a lovely shade and the brush inside the pallet is a great size to evenly apply blusher to the cheeks. I think that I would buy this product again as the blusher itself is quite large, when usually the amount is a lot smaller. This shade is great for my skin tone, which is, for all those who are unaware of my complexion; quite possibly the closest colour match to one of the Cullens from Twilight. The blusher just adds a touch of rosiness to my cheeks, bringing my face to life.
7/10
Cosmopolitan Beauty Expert- Perfect Finish Retractable Blush Brush
This product is a must have! It is always nice to have a large brush to apply
blusher or bronzer but they are never suitable to carry around. The portable sized brushes are usually not big enough to provide colour to the cheeks. This brush is perfect as it has the perks of being quite large in size, but can fold away into a stylish white case, ideal for those on the go. This item can easily fit into any bag and create a flawless finish.
8/10
Elite Starlight Eye Shadow- 04 Lolite
I just wish I had clocked on to this eye shadow earlier. Last week was my summer ball and I wore a purple dress accompanied with a purple flower in my hair, this shade would have looked perfect. Never mind, it just gives me an excuse to head out on the tiles for a night in my purple frock yet again, this time with my eyes dazzling to match.
The eye shadow is great for the shimmery glitter undertone and how easy it is to come out on the brush; however the colour is not as bright as I hoped. In the pallet the purple is very vibrant, but when applied to my eyes it only came out lightly. For a subtle look this eye shadow works great, but if you’re looking for a bright colour; Starlight is not the one.
6/10
Elite Intensity Long Lasting Eye Pencil- 01 Mysterious Black
Eyeliner is my most favourite item in my makeup bag; I just love drawing
flicks on my eyes and the feminine look it creates. I am a hard one to please when it comes to eyeliner, but this one was quite good. I usually use liquid eyeliner for the more striking effect, but I was surprised at how easy this eyeliner went on. The pencil created a line which I was pleased with, however it didn’t come out on my skin as sharp as I would like. I’m not quite convinced that I’ll be swapping my liquid eyeliner for a pencil yet, until that day my little pot of happiness will remain firmly by my side.
6/10
L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes- Noir/Black
Not only is the gold coloured tube luxurious, but the finish is just perfection. Mascara never meets my expectations, either due to clumpiness, lack of volume, or just being too hard to remove, but this one is definitely my top choice. The brush design ensures that clumps are non-existent and the full lash effect is great for fluttering those eyelashes this summer. The volume of the lashes is not as full as I would like; but the length and individual definition of the lashes is definitely maximised.
9/10
The lip gloss challenge
I had three lip glosses in my beauty kit, I tested all three to find the ultimate winner. Here’s what happened:
Elite Repulp! Gloss- 06 Darling Pink
I am a big fan of moisturising lips. I tend to use Vaseline to care for my lips, as glosses and lipsticks tend to dry them out or make them too sticky. No longer will I stand for my hair sticking to my lips after every gust of wind…very unattractive. The Repulp Gloss is great as the consistency is far from sticky; the finish is smooth and moisturising. The colour does not stand out, but for the clear everyday look, darling pink is perfect.
Colour 7/10 Lasting time 7/10 Texture 8/10
Elite SMARTi Gloss- 08 Marshmallow
This gloss does exactly what it says on the tin, my lips remained moisturised and shiny, without having that horrible sticky texture. The Marshmallow shade comes out clear on my lips so is suitable for daytime use, or coating lipstick at night. Although the gloss smells and tastes nice when on my lips, it reminds me of the cheap glosses I use to own as a kid which had a scent that soon became unbearable to keep on my lips. I can taste it as I’m writing this; you definitely need to gargle mouthwash after an application of this stuff.
Colour 5/10 Lasting Time 6/10 Texture 6/10
L’Oreal Glam Shine Reflexion- 180 Sheer Cassis
The colour looks really tacky; it’s a plum tone with purple, pink and gold glitter. If I saw this shade in the shop I would not even try it out, however, now I have it I may aswell try it out. To be honest it was not as bad as I first thought, there’s no way I would wear this shade during the daytime but on a night out it would complement my lips really nicely. I’ve learnt never judge a book by its cover! The brush is a brilliant applicator; it provides an even finish and helps to outline the lip, perfect for avoiding getting gloss on the face. The colour lasted a long time which I’m pleased with; altogether this is a great buy.
Colour 8/10 Lasting Time 8/10 Texture 8/10 WINNER!!!!
I think the three glosses suit different purposes. I would suggest for a daytime look the Elite Repulp Gloss in 06 Darling Pink would be perfect. To add a shiny coat to any lipstick the Elite SMARTi Gloss in 08 Marshmallow would suit anyone of any complexion. The L’Oreal Glam Shine Reflexion in 180 Sheer Cassis would definitely be a good choice for a night out, the colour is vibrant and it stays on for a long time.
Right so there we have it ladies, a low-down of the beauty world’s latest products, some good some bad. I’m now heading for bed, but not before I scrub my newly pampered face clean

A few days ago when i arrived home, I noticed a parcel with my name on it, waiting to be opened. It was from Superdrug! They kindly sent me a few goodies for me to try out, I was so excited!
Inside was…
Sally Hansen’s Miracle Nail Thickener!
“Instantly protects thin nails. Guaranteed!”
This product is aimed at people who have soft, thin nails, I’m quite lucky as I have thick nails so this is a product I wouldn’t go out and buy. But i tried it out anyway and i was really surprised! I’ve been using this as a base coat before applying nail polish, it works great as a base coat and I’ve noticed my nails feel a bit stronger than before i started using it! You can also wear this on it’s own as it makes your nails look a lot more nicer, healthier and natural looking without the need of a French manicure!
I also received 4!
In a New York Color Minute Quick Dry Nail Polishes!
I got the shades:
*Spring Street- Is a bright orange colour, perfect for summer nails, i really love orange & coral shades lately so i fell in love with this!
*Pier 17- is a royal blue metallic type of colour, I’d describe this as a ‘midnight blue’, would make your nails stand out in a club!
*MoMA- is a HOT pink colour, would look great on your pinky’s while sipping a cocktail!
*Prince Street- is a metallic purple colour, looks pretty with a rock edge!
I liked how the brush was long and the perfect width, I’ve had some brushes which are either too thin or too big, this was just right.
Lasting time- 2/3 days before i noticed chipping, which is really good!
So i bet your all thinking does it really dry in one minute?
It sure does!
A bargain too!
And lastly i received..
New York Color Long Wearing Nail Enamel Nail Polish!
I got the shade Plaza Plumberry, it basically looks like a black nail polish with a plum undertone.
The brush was slightly slimmer than the NYC’s Quick Dry Nail Polish, it dried quickly but not as quick as the NYC Quick Dry Nail Polish.
Lasting time- 3/4 days, longer than the Quick Dry Nail Polish.
Again another great bargain!
Overall i give them 2 (nail decorated) thumbs up!
Happy Painting!

May
A typical day in my life starts at around 6am when I have a shower and breakfast to get ready to face the day.
I do cleaning and ironing for a living so I usually set out to start my chores which involves me walking to my jobs and making peoples hectic lives easier by making their houses look lovely for when they come home and also clearing the ironing piles for them. My clients are all professional people to include London city workers and hospital staff.
Once all my jobs are done I walk home and take a long shower, clean and buff my nails, massage my cuticles and apply hand cream. I then style my hair and change into fresh clothes. Then its time to make dinner for myself and my husband which at this time of year is usually a bbq with salad.
We then sit in the garden either with the chimnea on or if we are lucky in the sunshine with a long cold drink and discuss what kind of day we have had and generally chill out.
On the weekends I usually catch up on my housework and ironing and then relax and pamper myself as much as possible!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you Superdrug!
I’ve been a busy guinea pig, as I’ve been testing the top selling must have products from L’Oreal courtesy of Superdrug. As you get older, caring for your skin becomes less of a chore, and more of a necessity…I must admit the years have certainly been kind, must be due to my gorgeous Indian genes, as at 37 I hardly have any wrinkles!
This is my five step daily beauty regime…I’ve converted, as I’ll certainly be putting these products into my shopping basket from now on!
Step 1
The new Loreal Perfect Clean with the Scrublet, that really gives you a refreshed look. Its a foaming gel wash, which comes with its own unique Scrublet, which is a little pad, with hundreds of tiny bristles, which you pop out, you pour on the gel, and give your face the perfect clean scrub. It is a really effective and gentle exfoliater, which you can use daily. And the great thing is there is four to choose from so there’s one for every skin-type!
Step 2
I am addicted to the Youth Code which I have been trialling for a month or so. I love the smooth velvet texture, and it sinks right into your skin. I’ve recommended it to my friends, who just love it!
Try it for yourself, Youth Code available online, with £5 off!
Step 3
I was a little dubioous about trying the new L’Oreal Matt Morphose Foundation. I love my bare minerals fooundation, however, I thought I’d give this a go, as the shade 180 Rosy Sand, really was perfect for my colour skin. I found this a non drying matt foundation, that has a unique feather light souffle texture, that was really easy to apply, giving me long lasting coverage, with no need to reapply during the day…even through a lunch work-out! I love the packaging, its simple but cute, and it pops into your makeup bag. I certainly give this a thumbs up! 10/10!
Step 4
Now, I don’t know about you, but one thing I can’t leave the house with is mascara, I must have tried 100’s of different makes. I really love the thick, full lashes that are soo in fashion. This Double Extension Renewal Serum Inside Mascara from L’Oreal doesn’t disappoint. Its a spectacular mascara that leaves your lashes looking longer, thicker whilst still being nourished at the same time!
Forget fiddly false lashes. If you want longer looking lashes this product is perfect for you!
Step 5
Lastly a L’Oreal first, a boosting serum for your lips, the Color Rishce Anti-Age Serum lipstick, containing Collagen and Hyaluronic Acid, to hydrate and plump with moisture. Lips are enveloped in voluptuous colour that doesn’t feather. The Result? More defined, younger-looking lips. With a slick sexy looking packaging, you’ll definitely want to show one off in your handbag!
Now your ready to face the world!

When Superdrug asked me to test the revolutionary demo expertise L-Oreal Youth Code I was slightly miffed…anti wrinkle cream, moir? I know I’m in my 30s, but surely I don’t need to start worrying about wrinkles yet?
Whilst waiting for my goodies, still feeling a little dubious, I thought I’d do a little research. The reviews I found were amazing, miracle in jar, gene genius in jar, can’t live without it, its a must…10 years in the making.the list goes on.
Is it really a miracle in a jar, or is the scientific mumbojumbo just another gimmick?
The Rejuvenating Anti-Wrinkle Day Cream contains ‘pro-gen’ technology which is designed to help tired skin recover and re-establish its natural youthfulness. The claim is that this cream will somehow help your skin ‘re-set’ its own genetic code and so will help to make you look younger.
Day 1
The packaging looks great, upon opening there weren’t any obvious scents, however, when I dipped my finger in, and first applied it to my face, it felt I was applying velvet all over my face. The texture was so smooth, that you almost have to be careful not to apply the whole jar, it felt weird, as my skin totally absorbed it, relishing in the delight of getting a min facial. I was able to apply my makeup over the top of it literally straight away. It made my face look a little plumper and certainly more radiant, but truly didn’t realise the effects until later in the day whilst shopping in Sainsbury’s.
I got stopped by a market researcher, and she said she didn’t want to sell me anything but wanted to ask me a question, firstly whether I was of Italian, Greek or Spanish origin…and I said none, but indian (wandering where the hell this was leading) and then she said, it was because my skin looked so radiant, that she just had to stop and ask what was my secret. Well, I wasn’t really sure what the answer was, was it this little miracle cream in a jar, or was it because I looked a little flushed, as I’d just spent an hour at the gym?
I’ve continued to wear the cream for 10 days, loving the complexion it gives me, I found my skin less drier, however I haven’t noticed a significant difference in the lines on my face…not that there were too many in the first place!
I’m sure, if you’ve got wrinkly skin, you would be able to see a vast improvement, but for now, for me its not a miracle in a jar…but a little mini- facial x
OK, sometimes I swear the peeps at Superdrug’s HQ really can read my mind.
Just last week I was staring miserably at my face in the mirror – examining the wrinkles, feeling the dry patches caused by the appalling weather we’ve been having recently and my obsession with walking to work – and I wished silently that a miracle product would land on my doormat.
Well, I can confirm that miracles do in fact happen as just a day later, a box of the latest products from L’Oreal – Youth Code – arrived.
Now, my Ma uses the ‘grown-up’ L’Oreal Wrinkle De-Crease Collagen range and swears by it – so much so that I actually gave her the whole collection for Mother’s Day last year – what a nice daughter I am, confirming my Ma has wrinkles eh?!
Anyway, here’s what the peeps at L’Oreal have to say: Mature skin and young skin behave differently when exposed to external aggressions. As you age, skin takes longer to recover and responds more slowly. The complexion loses luminosity, facial features appear tired and wrinkles deepen.
Eek!
I guess that’s why they created Youth Code then – a range which promises to leave your skin hydrated, smoother and more radiant. Apparently, it will also nourish the skin with moisture and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and help to improve the skin’s ability to behave more youthfully. When tested by 229 women, 78% of them agreed that their skin looked rejuvenated, 69% felt their wrinkles appeared reduced and 71% though their features appeared rested.
So what did I think?
First of all I opened the REJUVENATING ANTI-WRINKLE EYE CREAM, £10.99, and gently dabbed it around my tired peepers – exhausted from having fun! It smelt fabulous, went on easily and afterwards my skin felt incredibly soft.
Next I unwrapped the REJUVENATING ANTI-WRINKLE DAY CREAM, £9.99, which again smelt gorgeous as I rubbed it into my face, paying close attention to my windswept cheeks. Peering in the mirror, I was pleased that my skin looked happier to be hydrated. I also love the idea, from the L’Oreal peeps again, that it will help my skin to behave more youthfully, too – perhaps I’ll start getting ID’d in bars again!
Then I got to work targeting the BWA – bad wrinkle areas – with the REJUVENATING ANTI-WRINKLE CONCENTRATE, £10.99. These seem to be my forehead – all that thinking I do, obviously… and I LOVE IT – if anything because it reminded me not to frown and create that line in the first place – smiling only please – and also because it really did make my skin feel better.
What’s even better is that the prices above include a fab saving of £5 on each product – so you can look good for less!
Whoop!
And what did other people think as they’re the ones that can actually see my face, not me!
Well, after deliberately leaving my make-up off for a few days, colleagues commented that I looked great – in spite of being make-upless, and I noticed that my morning walk to work didn’t leave me with such red cheeks and dry patches.
It works!
So make that 230 women who approve of L’Oreal Youth Code!

Phew – what a week it’s been. I’ve been moving house you see, and all my Superdrug goodies were packed in a box, which has made reviewing them rather hard.
But now, after some unpacking in front of the TV last night – that saw me catapulting a box of make-up across the room when I tripped over my shoe collection, I have found my remaining gifts.
So, all that’s left really is to work out who’s getting what…
Let’s see, first we have the Thai Spa Woven Basket Bathing Collection, which really does look fabulously appealing

And what’s more it really is made in Thailand with authentic Thai ingredients! It offers a Soothing Body Lotion, Detoxifying Bath Soak, three dainty Fragranced Tea Lights and a reusable basket for all your bathing bits and bobs – and what’s more, you get all that for £6.99 – or less if you whack it through on a 3-for-2 gift promotion.
I decided to give this fabulous basket of relaxation to my mate Inty C as an early Christmas pressie and little thank you for helping me with my new flat. You see, being deaf, I struggle to make phone calls, and even though emails are efficient to a point, you don’t get the same immediate response you get with the phone, so she sorted everything out for me. From painters to carpet people, they all turned up on time, prices were negotiated and keys changed hands and before I knew it, I had a fabulous bright and shiny flat, all ready for me to move in to.
So what better way to thank her than by giving her a way to unwind after a stressful fortnight of organising my life?!
As an extra thank you, I gave her a 2true Mascara, too – and she texted me last night to say it’s bloomin’ brilliant!
So there you are, get out and buy one yourself!
So that’s that gift sorted…
And finally, there’s the Flutter Pretty Nails Kit

Also on the 3-for-2 offer and priced at a purse-friendly £4.99, this cute set contains a mini-makeover for your hands and feet. With three polishes, a nail file and some toe-separator thingies, it’s perfect for a girls’ night in – perfect for…
Miss K!
Miss K is my old flatmate and she’s a loyal product follower. To the point where she can be seen scraping out the last few blobs of her favourite nail polish onto her toenail and lamenting that it’s all gone.
I witnessed this very event recently, and the shade was a dead ringer for one of these shades. So no more moaning from her, and she’ll have perfect tooties to take Christmas partying in London.
Whoop!
And with those people sorted, I’m just off to Superdrug to see what else I can get.
So it’s with love from Superdrug, and with love from me!

I have been wearing the latest Into Glamour spray from Impulse in abundance, in the sheer hope of a stranger walking up to me with a bunch of flowers! This latest….very sophisticated sweet smell is rather addictive… I was fortunate enough to receive two delightful bottles of the top selling body spray, Into Glamour from Unilever, and must admit that I am hooked. I’ve never been the one for body sprays, as I’ve always enjoyed squirting perfume all over, but with this new fragrance, I’ve been converted. I keep a bottle in my handbag and also one in my gym bag, I’ve actually had a few people comment on the smell. It’s not musky, but quite light and fruity, with a really nice sophisticated scent. The packaging looks really sexy, and its perfect accessorie for winter partying! What’s more lovely Superdrug currently have it on special offer, so bag yourself one or two of this sexy bodyspray…to leave you smelling absolutely gorgeous…I know I will!Long winter nights don’t have to be spent pining for the bright beautiful days of spring. This year winter combined with the credit crunch means home nesting essentials are more important than ever before. Last year nesting may have meant dropping a hefty sum on designer scented candles and cashmere blankets, this year Superdrug offers a more purse friendly solution.
The limited edition Sweet Snuggles collection (available until end December) offers a capsule cosy collection all created with the eye firmly on winter nesting at home. The textured mug (£2.99) is reminiscent of a cosy hand-knit cardigan, just add hot chocolate.
For real duvet days the furry heart shaped hot water bottle (£7.99) is warm and cosy while the knitted slippers (£4.99) are a fleecy hug for the feet. Heart shaped soaps (£3.99 for six) are scented with sweet chocolate and caramel toffee fragrances.

For sofa snuggling the cosy fleece blanket (£4.99) is perfect, decorated with folkloric hearts the blanket is available in pink or chocolate. The Sweet Snuggles range also includes some pamper evening essentials for instance the Hot water bottle pamper set (£9.99) includes a mini knitted hot water bottle with pom poms, hot fudge scented bath sets and a delicious crème caramel body cream. Another pampering product is the cute pom pom trimmed felt bag (£6.99) complete with three sweet shop inspired bath soaks; hot fudge bath caviar, chocolate vanilla bath salts and crème caramel bath salts.

And here’s what I got…

Now, I use all these big brand names but I have never used these particular products before. I like these companies’ products but would I like this lot?
Only one way to find out…

Suspects 1 & 2
Familiar only with the conditioning mask from this range, I was intrigued by these little tester bottles, and I’m a sucker for trial sizes as it leaves more room in my suitcase for shoes. Anyway, these were meant to leave my dry and damaged hair soft and smooth, and they actually did. Gone was the need for Frizz Ease before styling, and I could just use a Toni & Guy Heat Protector to get the sleek, polished look I was after. They smelt great – not too chemically – but the only thing that I didn’t like about them was the packaging. They looked like Pantene imposters, which was a real shame as the actual Aussie packaging is more Aveda-styled bottles.

Suspect 3

Suspect 4
Dove Supreme Cream Oil Body Wash in Luscious Velvet and a Bath Puff!
I’m a big fan of Dove deodorant and body moisturizers, but I have never bought shower cream from this brand before. The label describes a blend of rich cream and luscious softening oil that will leave every inch of my skin supreme – like velvet.
That’s quite a promise!
Anyway, I have to admit the smell was gorgeous – quite intoxicating in the shower and best of all, I could smell it on my skin afterwards. I have quite dry skin normally, but this definitely helped my skin feel and stay supple throughout the day. It was also fabulously bubbly and created a great lather on my new bath puff. I love bath puffs and use them all the time, although my current on is on its last legs and is almost unraveled, so this one came at a great time. It was also smaller than the one I usually have, which made exfoliating knees and elbows and whole lot easier.

The Final Suspect
Max Factor Masterpiece Colour Precision Eyeshadow in Coffee
Now, I must confess, I don’t own any make-up by Max Factor. It’s not that I don’t like it, I just don’t get drawn to it when I am wandering through shops feeling a make-up splurge coming on.
Anyway, Benefit have recently brought out some crease-free cream eye-shadow and I love it so this was what Max Factor Masterpiece Colour Precision Eyeshadow had to compete with. And it didn’t quite cut it for me – it wasn’t as easy to blend or layer and I seemed to rub it off more than smudge it.
Think I’d rather wait until payday and head to Benefit to be honest.
So, whodunit? Which brand has stolen my loyalty away from what I usually use?
While there wasn’t really anything wrong with Aussie, I was disappointed with the Pantene-style bottles because for me it’s such a different brand from Pantene – it’s an original brand and this is not original packaging.
Dove however – no complaints at all. This is sitting proudly in my shower and my usual Imperial Leather wash is banished to the cupboard for emergencies…
