Playing with Mudd

Oily skin is driving me up the wall right now. I am trying out a variety of things to try and keep the grease levels down and help ward off the hideous amount of spots it brings. I have taken to reading everything I can get my hands on to learn more about what causes it and how best to combat it.

One of the things that came up a lot was the power or Mud, yup mud. It is a key element in  the fight against greasy skin as it contains Kaolin which is a natural clay that helps draw out impurities from the skin, while still allowing the pores to breath. Masks in general are fab as a once a week or when needed treatment to give the skin a boost. Just be sure to pick the right kind of mask for your skin type:

Oily skin- go for mud or clay formulas

Dry skin- use a more creamy hydrating mask

Sensitive skin- try a light or gel style mask

Combination skin-you might need a blend, a deep cleansing mask for the T Zone and a moisturising      type for your cheeks

I went down to Superdrug and picked up a sachet of Mudds original formula to try out and I had to share the results with you all. I loved this stuff, applied to a clean face slightly damp with warm water, it was easy to smooth on and there was plenty in the sachet to cover my face and neck well.

It is incredibly hard to smile or make any facial expressions when this dries on the skin. The boyf found this hilarious! After 15 minutes you just rinse the mask off with a cloth or in the shower and finish your skin care routine as normal. I was really impressed with the results from this, you can literally see it soaking up the excess oils from your face as it dries and pore dots appear.Afterwards my face felt incredibly clean and fresh, not too dry at all, just soft and clear. I am a total convert to using mud once a week, it is cheap, easy and best of all effective if like me you are oil and spot prone. These little sachets are under a pound and on a 3 for 2 right now so you can mix and match and find one that suits you.

I am now keen on trying the Superdrug Mud Therapy version as it comes in a neat little tube so I can get lots of applications and even just dab a little on any mega spots that arise- even better, they are in a 2 for £3.50 deal in Store and online now and come in an aloe vera version for sensitive skin and a raspberry enriched one that would be good for dry skin, hurrah!

Are you a fan of masks?

PS can I just mention how excited I am to get to Superdrug to try out the amazing looking new MeMeMe Blush Me! Boxed blushers, hello affordable Benefit style boxed blush. A total must have from what I have read of them!

Deafinitely Girly’s gym bag essentials

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (29 votes, average: 3.59 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

Readers of my day blog Deafinitelygirly.com will know that I’ve recently joined a gym, and I’m loving it.

At previous gyms I have always shied away from doing classes – worried about not being able to hear them enough to follow and finding them intimidating.

But this time around, I decided classes would be tackled with gusto.

So, dragging along Gym Buddy and Web Whizz, we’ve been attending everything from Body Combat to a fun dance class called Zumba – the latter of which I can only do if I ignore the wooden reflection in the mirror of me trying to shake my hips.

The only problem with all this going to the gym, is it plays havoc with my skin. Sweat is not the greatest addition to my skincare routine, so I decided I needed a quick fix to help keep it spot-free and looking good, without having to drop my fitness regime.

The other problem was that the lunchtime classes don’t leave me with enough time to shower – yes, grim, I know – so I needed another quick fix that would make me acceptable in the office for the rest of the day, and not smelling like a teenage boy’s gym bag!

And so, I turned to Superdrug for help…

First up, facial wipes. I wanted ones that were gentle on my skin, but that didn’t leave too much of a residue behind. For this, I chose Simple Daily Radiance Brightening Cleansing Wipes, £3.95.

Simple Radiance Brightening Cleansing Wipes

Simple is a brand I know and trust, and I liked the ‘radiance brightening’ promise, too.

Next up, body wipes. Now, I had considered using baby wipes, but the problem with these, is you kind of end up smelling like a baby’s bottom, which in my book is almost as bad as a teenage boy’s gym bag. So instead, I opted for Halo Deodorant Wipes, available in store, which smell great, and seem to tackle sweat with ease.

Then, there’s my hair – sweat and good hair days do not go hand in hand. But adding the Scandalous Fabulously Flirty Dry Shampoo, £3.50, to the equation definitely turned that around. Its corn starch formula cleverly hides any sign of exertion and my hair actually now looks better after the gym than before!

Scandalous Fabulously Flirty Dry Shampoo

And finally, there’s the problem of me having a face the colour of a beetroot!

Well, there’s not really much I could do about that – a splodge of Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation, £9.99, does cover it slightly, and because it’s quite a light formulation, it also allows me to cool down further without feeling that I am clogging my pores.

Bourjois Healthy Mix

So there you have it – the DG guide to gyming it in your lunch hour and looking good in the afternoon!

Now all I have to work on, is actually looking good at the gym, rather than the uncoordinated blondie in years-old gym kit currently staring back at me in the mirror!

Can anyone fix this for me?!

Sudocrem: Wonder cream for spots!

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (12 votes, average: 4.08 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...
I just wanted to share what I have been using the past few days on a particularly annoying little break out of spots around my chin. I first read about this remedy for drying them up fast in Look magazine. It reported that Cheryl Cole (she of gorgeous skin!) swears by this stuff to clear up any blemishes, and if it is good enough for her it is definately good enough for me!

I first tried it  a few months ago and was really impressed by how well it works for me and I wanted to share it with anyone else looking for a cheap and effective treatment. I bought a handy little portable tube size (30g) of it for under £2 in my local superdrug and the assitant even mentioned that so much of it had been bought since the magazine had been out! You can buy a huge tub of it that will last you for ever here.

The cream is designed for nappy rashes on cute little babies but for me it works wonders with just a little dab of it on any problem areas, I let it soak in over night ( I wouldn’t recomend using it in the day as it does go on really white!) and in the morning I found it has usually dried the spot out and taken out any redness. I actually have used this other places for dryness and also on the heels of my feet which are always rubbed and sore and this really helped!

Does anyone else have any handy tips for clearing up pesky spots?

Bio Oil me up!

I just have to declare to you all who I am in love with.

I am sorry Boyf it is not you I look forward to going to bed with, it is my face, coated in a nice layer of bio oil. I honestly think this stuff has turned my face around in the last year, and I am still only half way through my first ever bottle! I have a terrible time with picking, spots, scab, my nails. You name it and I could probably while away the hours picking at it. Sigh, it has plagued me all my life and it came to a head a year ago with a cheeky little white head that appeared under my eye, near the top of my cheek bone. In a particular face picking rampage I decided this white head was for the off, so I picked the poor thing clean out and what a mess it left my face in, leaving a healing scab that no amount of smoke and mirrors ( foundation and concealer!) could cover. So I had to work hard to leave it to heal, which eventually it did, leaving in its wake a big horrible uneven looking scar. I was gutted and so annoyed with myself, here was my permanent reminder of how silly I am at not leaving these blemishes in peace. So after years of hearing about bio oil and what it can do for stretchmarks and scars I decided I had to at least try it out and see if in the long term it could help me. I have never looked back! Honestly this little bottle costing me under a tenner really has changed my face, the scar has faded right now, as have other little scars I had from past picks and I continue to put it on every night as I feel it really evens out my skin tone which has always been a problem for me. I cannot sing its praises enough, I have used it on scars and stretchmarks and with continued and dedicated use it brings cracking results. It will most likely be a staple on my dresser for years to come, looking wisely down upon all the less effective lotions and potions that will get tried out and chucked in its wake. ” target=”_blank”>Bio Oil!

It’s on the taaaable!!

Brief: Create a food masterpiece – your favourite summer cuisine

For my summertime recipe, I made a little something we at home like to call a Salad Tea.  I used to have this British family favourite a lot when I was younger so it’s almost a comfort food without the stodge!  It usually makes an appearance around May-time when we get the first sight of summer and is really easy to make.  A salad tea consists of lettuce, tomato, cucumber, hard boiled eggs and luncheon meats with room for your own additions / deductions.  Here’s what I did with mine…

First, I put the eggs on the boil then chopped my cucumber and tomatoes.   I took my ‘washed and ready to use’ lettuce and placed it on two large plates.  Next, I arranged the tomatoes and cucumber on top of the lettuce and rolled some slices of meat to add to the dish.  I love pickled onions so I put them in, as well as some beetroot, but just for me as Dave can’t stand the stuff – if he had his way, there would have been a porkpie in the mix but I couldn’t get any.  Penultimately, I took the eggs off the boil, put them in cold water and grated some cheddar. While they cooled I poured some Sauvingon Blanc and had a few sips.

Lastly, I de-shelled the eggs, chopped them and took a handful of the cheddar to place on the plate.  Et voilà, a salad tea for 2!

For desert we each had a yoghurt but thinking about it now, I probably should have made jelly to have with cream / ice cream – it’s like coming home from school… how nostalgic can you get?!

Undercover insider!

The Mission- Treat Myself:

Go to my local Superdrug, spend a generous £20 voucher, speak to the team there and  share my thoughts on the experience with you guys. Mission accepted in a heartbeat, £20 voucher- YES PLEASE!

My Mission – Undercover Insider:

Over the past 10 years I have worked in retail on and off and am no stranger to being mystery shopped so I thought the best way to explore my local Superdrug was to go undercover! I have never had a bad customer experience in any of the stores so I had high hopes for staff at Glasgow’s Argyle Street branch. I was not disappointed- the shop looked lovely and was well laid out, the staff were all really friendly and knowledgeable and the atmosphere was great.

But before I give you the full results from my sneaky mission I wanted to give everyone the chance to see what I was seeing so I put a little tour together, click here to explore my Superdrug!

I wanted to go in and have a look at all the things that I think make up a great customer experience so I decided to ask a staff member an everyday question that I or anyone would ask when in store and requiring help. As I dye my hair regularly I thought I would ask for help in the semi permanent hair dye section, what brands are most popular and for any recommendations on products to go for.  Armed with my question, my camera and a notepad this is what I found:

The Shop

First Appreance: Busy but not overwhelming, clean, smelled nice and fresh ( a rush of the new Avril Lavigne perfume I was later told.)

Atmosphere: upbeat and fun, the Superdrug Radio station was playing up to date and catchy tunes that I knew. I heard more than one other person humming along!

Layout: Loads of space to move around, clear and well thought out with well  marked aisles, bright and fun.

Product Range: HUGE- all my favourites especially in make up with the amazing superdrug MUA £ 1 range, Sleek, Barry M, Bourjois,a huge Gosh counter, Maybelline, Bloom, Rimmel, L’Oreal, 2True and so many more.

Prices: Really big and bold, matching black and pink labels, best of all they were low- great offers on so many different products.

Staff

Uniform: Wearing all black with a nice clear name badge. It was great to see staff still keeping individual style with their hair, make up and accessories while still staying clearly marked out and smart.

Service: Fab! The first girl I asked my question to was Stephanie who was working on the fragrance till. She was really friendly and went to the hair dye aisle with me and told where all the semi permanent ones were, she then explained that she doesn’t use them herself but some of the other staff do so went to get another assistant for me who could help answer my questions. It was the assistant Manager Katriona who arrived to help and like Stephanie she was really friendly, her knowledge of the products sold was outstanding, and she could tell me about the most popular brands, the no ammonia features in one range, the good deal in another and importantly how long each range would last in weeks/rinses in my hair. A really amazing service, she was happy to help wherever she could and I left feeling totally satisfied with what would have been my choice based on the help from her and Stephanie. While I was shopping I was also approached my Shona who filled me in on Superdrugs own range of fake tan, which she had on an looked amazing, it was flying off the shelves and it is definately next on my list of things to try! I liked that they were getting the word out about their own brand of products which are just as good as the more expensive ones but at a much lower price.

Katriona and Stephanie:Shona with her happy tan customers!

Tills

Service: Quick, efficient and helpful. Being asked if I needed stamps or phone top ups is a good touch, I also liked that i was asked if I needed a bag as so often you can fit the little purchases into another bag you are carrying but your goods are instantly put in a bag anyway , what a waste!

Layout: The range of products on offer to you to add to your basket from queuing to right next to you while paying are well thought out and really handy for when you forget the little things. Lip balm, paracetmol, chewing gum to mini deodorants are just excellent finishing touches to the Superdrug experience.

Mission Completed!

After my little sneak around, I went back in to let the team know I was writing for Superdrugloves and that they had been really great. I got a chance to speak to Katriona more about her experiences of working in Glasgow’s biggest Superdrug. She told me the shop was re fitted 2 years ago to the contemporary and sleek design and layout it is now, and since then has gone from strength to strength. After spending 5 years with the company she was really passionate about the brand and about delivering a great service which was refreshing to hear. I asked her why she liked working for Superdrug and she explained it was because she gets excited for all the new launches they have and how the company as a whole is going forward. She even let me in on a little secret about an exciting upcoming change to some stores which will bring an even wider range of certain products so you will have to keep your eyes peeled and see if your local store is one of the special ones!

I asked Katriona if she was in my shoes and had £20 to spend what would she buy, this gave her the chance to further show off impressive knowledge of the deals in store as she would have gone for her fave Andrew Collinge  shampoo which at the time was on a BOGOF offer, a Maybelline Falsies Mascara that she loves and a top up of the essential deodorant and other day to day things. I was really impressed over all with how welcoming everyone was having me in store, the staff took the time out to chat to me where possible and even filled me in about what they love about summer: Zante, Sunglasses and cocktails being some of the top answers! They even helped me work out what to spend my voucher on, a sales assistant called Lindsay had me almost tempted by her favourite: the Harijuku perfume in love but in the end I went for the new Pantene Aqua Light shampoo, Barry M nail polishes in shades  304 Mint green and 293.  The much talked about L’Oreal Renewal Lash Serum, Make Up Academy eyeshadows in shades 13 and 14 and a stunning Barry M dazzle dust in 72.

Keep your eyes on Superdrugloves for a mini review of all my new goodies. Thank you so much to Superdrug for the experience and thanks to everyone at the Argyle Street store for  making it such a good one!

Fair skin tips for the summer!

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (5 votes, average: 4.20 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

Whilst Bronzers are a summer staple for girls with a healthy holiday tan, summer makeup for pale girls can be much more of a challenge. As a girl that only freckles, never tans, I know the pain of being ghostly while everyone around me slowly browns.

Fake tan is a no go for me (it just makes me look silly!) so I have to make do with what I have. Luckily for me being fair skinned has become much more popular this year thanks to pale beauties like Nicole Kidman, Nicola Roberts and Lily Cole. They’ve definitely made it easier to find a decent foundation that doesn’t leave you looking just plain orange.

I know how tough it can be to find a good summer look, so I’ve been experimenting and coming up with some tips for those of us who can’t get brown!

My top tips:

+ Whatever you do, do not overdo your foundation! For fairer skin high factor sunscreens are a must (unless you want to end up with a very unflattering pink nose) and no matter how invisible your protection is with foundation and sweltering heat it’s a recipe for disaster. Try and blend it carefully to problem areas such as under the eyes and nose, or try and brave it bare. Remember sunshine is good for your skin as

All Freckles and No Tan!

long as you stay well protected!

+ It might sound obvious but match your colour! Fair skin really shows up poorly matched foundation and bright sunshine will only make that worse. If you’re having trouble finding light enough shades then check out Maybelline’s Dream Matte Mousse range for great pale shades like Champagne, Ivory and Porcelain. (£6.99 at the moment with a 3 for 2 Deal at Superdrug!)

+ Just because we can’t bronze doesn’t mean we can’t shimmer! Pick up my current weapon of choice, Shimmer and Shade from the underrated Collection 2000. This is a great alternative to bronzers for us pale girls. Illuminate your cheek bones and under the brows with the shimmer and blush up the apples of your cheeks with the shade.

+ Heavy lipsticks are also a no-go for the summer. For pale skinned girls a really bright red lipstick can be fantastic, but on summer days is far too vampy. Switch it for a clear or light coral gloss to match your skin without drowning you out.

+ Finally, grab yourself some good makeup remover that’s gentle on the skin. Hot weather melts makeup quickly and you can end up with heavy panda eyes in the afternoon. Keep your skin and pores clear by keeping your makeup in place.

I hope these tips were helpful to all of the fair skinned beauties out there. Summer needn’t be trouble for us anymore!

Mud, music and make up. Festivals for the fabulous.

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (23 votes, average: 3.91 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...
No that isn’t actually me but I have done this whole Festival thing before…

Summer is finally here and for many of us that means one thing, festival season is well and truly upon is!

First you have to choose the festival for you from the hundreds on offer, check out the links for these amazing line ups of both big well known UK and abroad music festivals and local fun festivals in an area near you.  Whether it’s Glastonbury or Rug Fest in Wallingford you still need to be prepared, it doesn’t have to be all dirt, sweat and grubby loos this year so stand out from the crowd by looking fresh, feeling  fresh.

So here is the BeautyH2T guide on how to take the minimum to get the maximum out of the experience and be a  happy glamper(that’s glamerous camper, see what I did there…!) in 2010.

 THE FASHION

  •  Make sure you pack clothes that you can layer on. Knowing our lovely UK weather it can change in a heartbeat so you want to be able to cover up and shed it off easily! Think loose vest tops, band t shirts, waistcoats, the worlds your oyster when it comes to festival fashion.
  •  Denim shorts are a must for working your way around a busy  field of tents and in the huge crowds. Perfect for matching with any top, and if it’s cold they look just as great with tights on underneath!
  • Long necklaces give that relaxed boho look and will compliment your arm full of wristbands!
  • A good hat like this straw trilby will keep you cool whilst looking cool, and also cover days of unwashed hair underneath :)
  • Wellies are a key piece to any festival goers wardrobe, in this year are a twist on the popular biker boot  so it doesnt have to just be tatty old green ones! A pair like this from Next are ideal cheap and chic- Yay!
  • Sunglasses are a must, no point not being able to see the bands play for the sun, and they are great for hiding unslept eyes. Play around with styles and colours, remember anything goes at a festival.

THE MAKEUP+ HAIR

As you know I am a beauty addict so I cant go the whole festival without a little something to brighten up my face and even out my skin tone! You want make up that keeps you looking wide eyed and bushy tailed but is easy to put on in a tiny tent you are sharing with 10 others - 6 of which you didn’t know until you got there!

  •  Waterproof mascara is the ultimate make up tool for the muggy weather and possible rain, and this is my absolute favourite, 1 stroke and you have that false lash effect  in an instant!
  •  A good foundation compact is perfect for being outdoors,  this Sleek Creme to Powder foundation comes with a mirror and applicator and is perfect for beauty on the go, or why not go for the Max Factor version with a built in SPF 15, gorgeous smooth skin tone whilst keeping sun damage at bay, yes please! For those of you lucky enough to not have to wear foundation just a little dab of under eye concealer or tinted moisturiser will keep you looking gorgeous!
  •  A stroke of blusher will perk tired cheeks up ,and there is nothing more practical for the festival season than these cream blushers from Bloom, no fuss or brush necessary, these little 3 in1 beauties can go on lips, eyes and cheeks so are perfect to pop in your bag.
  • A good lip balm with an spf keeps your lips soft and kissable ( what happens at the festival, stays at the festival!), Nivea Pearl and Shine is perfect for the job giving your lips a nice sheen of colour while still being moisturising and packing SPF 10.
  • Dry shampoo is a MUST! You cannot leave home without it ladies, no matter how long you are going for you will need a little of this to revamp your do and keep it looking fresh… well fresh..er. My tip is to put your newly washed hair into pigtails and rock the indie look for travelling there, then when they are dry you just have to shake them out and voila - amazing boho waves, ( my example is this pic- I wear my hair like this not just at festivals but all the time, it is lazy girl beauty at its finest!) and then you have your dry shampoo to put texture back into your greasy mop for the day that follows, ( and a hat for the day after that!) Batiste now comes in the brunette version too so no white headed worries for all us darker hair ladies, there are even miniature tins which are perfect for lightening the load!

 THE  ESSENTIALS

  • Bin bags are a great thing to pack, use them as clothing, as a seat, as a head covering and well as a bin. A couple of pounds well spent!
  • Along with that think, a mirror, some wet wipes, loo roll, antibacterial hand gel , and hayfever tablets, these are all little live savers that have proved really handy to me in the past and might just prove themselves as essential to you this year.
  • Simple face wipes, will wipe away the days excesses and keep your skin  cool and clean, no water needed so one less trip to those delightful port-a loos. These beauties are so effective but still  gentle on pretty much any skin type!
  • You party hard skin will need some TLC so make sure you pack some moisturiser, sun screen and  of course after sun which might just make you a hero for anyone camping nearby who was less prepared than you and has turned a nice lobster red!
  • deodorant- speaks for itself, even though everyone else may be less than fresh you still can be, even in the middle of a mosh pit.
  • And last but not least some bottles of water and a tube of Berocca will keep your energy up and ready for even more dancing!

Remember you can get loads of these products in travel sizes, more space for food and drink that way :)

Me in the out in the field learning festival tips first hand!

I hope this festival lo -down has taken the pain out of packing and has helped you get ready to get out there and embrace your inner festival goddess and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Look good, smell good, and be bad–  drink, eat and  dance the night away,  go wild and enjoy your amazing festival  experience!

Oh and don’t forget to head on back to superdrugloves.com to tell us all about it.

Happy Glamping everyone!

Bx

PS Keep your eyes peeled for part 2 of my festival posts…

What not to do at a festival – tried and tested by MissPrincessPancake

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (312 votes, average: 4.85 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

Now I know the old rule of ‘whatever goes’ applies to festival season.  You can literally paint your face neon yellow with brown spots and dress up as a hot dog and you will be classed as ‘that whacky girl in the green zone’.  However, after going to many festivals over my time including Reading, Glastonbury and the odd occasional folk festival in Towersey, I can definitely say that there really are some situations you do not want to find yourself in!  Hence I have written you a short little list of disastrous situations which need to be avoided.  Believe me, I have experienced every single one of them …

tent placement is key!

1. Make sure that you pick a spot on high ground for your base.  Coming back to your tent after a heavy night of rain is always a relief.  However, finding it sitting in a puddle with all of your clothes swimming in mud and toilet germs is a cause of festival rage (including but not limited to shouting, thrashing and the silent sobs).

2. Dry shampoo is my Holy Grail festival item.  One spray of this will refresh your hair so you are ready to party for another day!  Check that you are reaching for the correct can however, as hair does not react very well with a can of bug spray/gas/deodorant/shaving cream or be it normal squirty cream.  You will look like a lunatic and smell like the bottom of a flip flop for the rest of the day until you find some water.

anyone for breakfast?

3. I normally wake up in the morning with a head feeling like it has been stuffed with cotton wool.  Due to this, the half open packet of leftover burgers seem to be calling my name.  I will usually brush off the bugs and take them out of the plastic packet they have been fermenting in through the night and the unusually warm morning and pop them on a freshly lit BBQ.  Now most festival pros will say keep out of the toilets as much as you can.  However, if you follow my tips then make sure you pack PLENTY of wipes and hand sanitizer.

4. Lastly, be careful when sitting on someone’s shoulders near the front at the headlining act at Glastonbury wearing a tube top.  You will experience some horrendously precarious moments involving your cleavage and the possibility of them being transmitted to the world by the TV cameras!

off for an adventure at BoardMasters festival

I hope this has helped you in your quest to have the most amazing festival experience this summer.  Remember to stay safe, have fun and try not to eat 10 vodka jellies and pass out in front of Wheezer (circa 2002).  If anything silly does happen to you this summer, be sure to let me know!  I love laughing at other peoples experiences, because believe me, i’ve had plenty of that myself!

Lots of love Cazz x

Earlier this week I had the opportunity to try out and learn more about the new fitness Wii game from Fitness First’s New U series, a Yoga and Pilates workout.

I’m usually not a big fan of fitness computer games, but this one was a lot better than most. Firstly, it’s extremely user friendly, and easy to navigate. Instead of a computer-generated human shape to copy on screen, which can make it difficult to see exactly what you’re supposed to be doing with your body, this game shows real people doing the yoga positions (who are yoga instructors in real life), making them a lot easier to copy. Also, once you’ve entered your level of experience and fitness when you first start using the game, you don’t have to alter it again. The game tracks your progress for you and gradually changes your program to keep in line with your increasing fitness/flexibility, so you should never find anything too easy or too hard and never have to alter the difficulty level yourself.

The game is compatible with both the Wii balance board and the Wii motion plus, but you can use the game without too. I was worried that the controller would get in the way of doing the poses properly, but you only use it when learning and practicing the (117 different!!) positions. Once you’ve learnt how to do each move with the correct posture and stability, the sequences and workouts you do from then on don’t require you to use the controller any more, so in this respect it’s more like a workout DVD.

There are different programmes depending on your goal – for example weight loss, reducing back pain, increasing flexibility and even a post-natal programme. You can also access information about each of the poses, which tells you what benefits each of them gives you, as well as advising people with injuries which poses they should avoid.

There’s also a meditation section, as the game is for “mind and body”. The music played whilst you are exercising is very relaxing, and there are a variety of beautiful backgrounds you can choose from, such as a seaside cove and beside a lake.

This game would be a brilliant introduction for anyone who wants to try yoga, but doesn’t have the time, or is too scared to go to classes. It’s also a good accompaniment for anyone who does do yoga classes too, as they can continue at home what they have learnt in class, but still have the on-screen instructor to guide them.

Last week I celebrated my 30 something birthday, and like recent birthdays…I wasn’t in the mood to celebrating the wrong side of 30.  I don’t know what it was, but I really felt miserable, with everything, the weather, work, the gym…the hubby! I was trying to pinpoint the last time I felt like this, and it was November last year! All I can put it down to is that I must be suffering with Season Affective Disorder (SAD syndrome)..and boy was I sad!

Anyone affected by Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD syndrome) will know that this depressive disorder seems to be exacerbated by the lack of daylight which we all experience during the winter months. It can feel as if this time of year will never end and is enough to send sufferers scurrying to bed with a hot water bottle, a warm drink and a pile of good books!

There are a wide range of symptoms which include depression, mood swings, irritability, lethargy, cravings for sweet foods and a general feeling of being ‘down in the dumps’. For some people the effect can even stretch throughout the autumn, winter and spring.

The exact cause is not known but lack of sunlight is a likely contributory factor. During the winter months, when the days are shorter, you travel to work in the dark. At lunchtime you don’t fancy leaving the comfort of your warm, artificially-lit office to venture out into the wind and rain, risking taking off ‘Mary Poppins’ style down the road as you wrestle with your umbrella. Then, come evening time, you leave work in the dark. Blink and you can feel like you have missed the day!

So what am I going to do about it?

On my pursuit of Happiness I have realised its about taking time out, and recapping on what is most important, my health and wellbeing.  I am extremely lucky to be surrounded by people who care, and who think that I deserve a bit of ‘me’ time.

My wonderful friend came to the rescue, and dragged me out for a good talking to, on a bright, cold winters day.  Armed with our wellies, we set out on a mission…definitely to break some sweat, but also to RELEASE!  I felt 100′s time better, and realised that my life wasn’t that bad, and that I’ve got so much to look forward to.  We finished the walk with a lovely milk chocolate chip cookie and a latte, so I would like to just say thank you Hayley for being there!

My day wasn’t finished off with a girlie night out with my girlies, Sang, Bal, Narry…who are always there for me, and we spent the evening drinking, eating and giggling.

It was just what the doctor ordered!

Thank you girls, MWAH X
