Which Girls Aloud lashes suit you?

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (11 votes, average: 2.00 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

Fancy fluttering new luscious lashes? Why not try Girls Aloud designed festival lashes.

We may not have much of the summer left but that’s no reason to let your look suffer.  Girls Aloud’s funky eyelash sets may be the way to bring some colour to your summer!

Designed for festival wear, the fake eyelashes each have a unique detail which makes them far more exciting than day to day lashes.  Plus, they come with a carry pouch to make storing them easy.

Priced at a generous £5, I think they’re a steal!

Which Girls Aloud lashes are for you?

Sarah Harding

Just like Sarah these lashes are bold and loud.  With each individual lash having maximum volume and length and that added red design, these lashes can’t help but make a striking statement.  Teamed up with red jewellery; the Sarah lashes are the ultimate summer festival buy. Stand out from the crowd this summer with these lashes.

Kimberley Walsh

Kimberley has designed sexy festival lashes.  The tips of the long black lashes have a double feather at the corner to elongate the lashes further and create an individual look.  These lashes are feminine and flirty, ideal for dazzling the boys.  As they are black they can be worn with pretty much any outfit.

Nadine Coyle

The Nadine lashes are colourful and girly.  The lashes themselves are simple in design as they have a standard shape to the lash, but they are emphasised with length and volume.  The festival inspired difference to these lashes is that they have multi-coloured gems at the top of them, designed to replace the boring black line drawn by eyeliner.

Cheryl Cole

Everyone loves Cheryl Tweedy/Cole (whatever she wants to be called these days) and I’m sure these lashes will be the best seller.  The lashes match her vibrant but sophisticated personality.  They are volumous and black and have a gold tint at the tip of each individual lash.  These eyelashes are ideal for many occasions as they are not too overpowering; due to the glamorous black and gold colour scheme.

Nicola Roberts

These elegant lashes designed by Nicola are beautiful and sparkly.  They are black and silver in colour with glitter flecks within them.  The lashes are emphasised with a silver butterfly design that creates an attractive look for the summer.  Nicola is the Girls Aloud member with the least coverage, but she has designed her lashes to elegantly make you stand out from the crowd.

Don’t miss out on these beautiful lashes.  They are limited edition and are only around for the duration of the summer; so get them quick!

I must say, I’m a fan of Nadine’s lashes.  I love a bit of colour on my eyes, especially because I have so many black clothes in my wardrobe. These lashes would help my eyes stand out and would help create the ultimate summer look.

Miss Guided guides the way to affordable fashion

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (12 votes, average: 3.67 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

Yet another great surprise arrived the other week in the form of a £60 voucher online to spend at Miss Guided. My hairdresser had a lovely dress on one time when I went to get my hair done, so I asked her where it was from and she said Miss Guided. It was then that I checked the site out, so I’ve been a fan for quite a while.

Thanks to this voucher I got to buy some of their items myself! I was really impressed with the easyness of purchasing, plus they kept me updated about my delivery via email so I could tell my mum what time to expect a knock at the door whilst I was at work!

The Helen Graphic Printed Halterneck Maxi Dress in Green is the first item I decided on. I’ve been wanting a maxi dress for ages but wasn’t sure if it would suit me, or would only look good on really tall people! I’m really glad I bought this though as it looks lovely on and my mum kept saying how much she liked it! Can’t wait to wear it on holiday :) It also comes in an orangey/red combination too and is only £22.99!

Secondly I decided on Samantha Jersey Harem Pants in Mocha. Harem trousers are something I’ve been ooh-ing and aah-ing about for a while, as I wasn’t sure if they would suit me. But for only £9.99 in the sale, I felt it was worth trying them out! They are really comfy and I don’t own anything in this colour so it added something new to my wardrobe.

I’ve also been wanting a playsuit for ages but there were so many I liked I couldn’t decide what design. Then I saw this Hadley Jumpsuit for £16.99 which I thought would be a better investment as they could be worn in winter too with a cardigan or jacket, whereas a playsuit would leave my legs on show and could only really be worn when it’s warm. As it’s black, I can dress it up with different belts and jewellery… I love it!

I also bought a floaty white dress but unfortunately it didn’t fit right so I’ve sent it back and exchanged it for a long sleeved floaty cardigan which I look forward to receiving in the post!

All in all, I would definitely recommend Miss Guided for its big choice of fashionable clothes and quick and speedy ordering and delivery. The website is really easy to navigate and there is also a blog to read and a trends section to find the latest trend items easily :)

In a World of Fashionistas

When I returned from Amsterdam, nestled among the junk email that seems to populate my inbox of recent, was a £60 voucher, generously provided by Superdrug, to relish in on the Miss Guided website.

I’ve seen the website before,  advertised in some top weekly glossies, and featured on a few of the more fashionable blogs that I follow – so I knew I was in good hands.
I browsed the site with ease, navigating my way through different pieces of clothing, current trends and the different ways I could style each piece. After much deliberation I decided on 5 pieces to get me through my voucher money plus a little extra.

Delivery is a reasonable £3.95, which is well worth it with the service you get. After my ‘confirmation of order’ email, I received the date on which I should expect my delivery, followed the day before arrival, with an hour time slot in which it should arrive. It came promptly, 2 minutes after the opening time of the specified delivery time

I began trying on my new items, mentally planning an occasion to give them their first outing, when, disaster struck. My favourite item of the order was too small! This was my own fault, perhaps being a little optimistic about which size I should get. I immediately took myself back to the Miss Guided site to see what my next step was in returning the dream short.
All went quick an easy, it was parcelled up and labelled with the address label attached to the order form, through the wonder that is Twitter, I was contacted by a Miss Guided representative, who kindly told me instructions on how I could get a free returns label, so I didn’t even need to pay postage back!
I’m currently awaiting the replacement arrival, which hopefully should be the perfect fit, and look just like this;

Tailored Suede Style Shorts £16.99

So, back to the other items. My eye was immediately drawn to the next piece, the only difficulty coming from choosing which colour and pattern to order. I went with classic black, goes with everything and to me was the most ‘stylish’ of the ones on offer.

Priya One Shoulder Dress £23.99

The final two items are things that I’ve already worn a lot since receiving them, both can be worn with a casual outfit or have an air of dress up about them if you want to pair them with something for a night out.

Lace Insert Jersey Cardigan £14.99 & Skull Printed Scarf £8.99

And so my fashion status in life continues, with my semi new wardrobe from Miss Guided!

Thanks go to Superdrug and Miss Guided!

Thunderbolts and lightning…. very very frightning!

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (7 votes, average: 4.43 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

So… in my last blog I mentioned that I was being taken away on a surprise trip – turns out I had a surprise when I got there too…. my boyfriend asked me to marry him! We’ve been together for 9 years so, naturally I said YES!

I won’t go in to too much detail as I don’t want to bore anyone but we went to Lake Garda, Italy which was so beautiful and spent the days on boats up and down the lake (which is pretty massive… it looks like the sea up close) and eating tonnes of gorgeous pasta and pizza and drinking prosecco and red wine. It was completely idyllic and getting engaged at the top of this clock tower was one of the best moments of my life J Sorry to gross you out… gush gush!

On our last night, we went to an Opera in Verona which was in an old open-air Amphitheatre and built in the first century AD. It was a stunning setting and we were so looking forward to the opera until a huge black cloud came over the top like a ceiling and whooshed a load of rain all over us, we got soaked… it was like the scene out of a disaster movie, everyone was screaming and running to get out of the torrential rain and lightning – it was the worst storm we’d ever been in. They tried to carry on with the show but each time just a drop of rain came down, the orchestra ran off to protect their instruments – this happened 4 times and in the end, my “fiancé” and I had given up and went to get some pizza! It was a really memorable experience though, totally scary and a bit rubbish that we didn’t actually see much opera but really fun!

We got home to a surprise party at his mum’s house where all of our families were – it was a pretty good weekend! It’s worth mentioning that I tried to be a bit thematic, given my new status, with my plane outfit and wore this fab skirt with hearts on it from River Island…. They have SO much cool stuff in there at the moment and their prices seem to be more reasonable than recent years…. Well done River Island!

I’m about to embark on Challenge 4 which is to visit my nearest Superdrug store and report back on my experience, after spending a very kind £20 pound voucher… so watch this space.

TTFN :)

‘The customer is at the heart of everything we do.’

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (12 votes, average: 3.92 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

Armed with my digi cam, a piece of paper full of questions, and a £20 gift voucher I was generously given by Superdrug to spend on what I like, I went into my local store (Sutton) on Thursday to review my shopping experience!

The manager I asked for wasn’t in the store that day, however I got to speak to the customer service manager Dwight Adams instead. This actually worked out better as he works in various different branches so really knew about the Superdrug shopping experience. He was also my age so he was easy to chat to!

Customer service manager Dwight with another member of staff, Karen.

After heading out to the back through coded doors where the offices and CCTV were (ooh er), I asked Dwight my questions.

Firstly, what are the best selling cosmetic brands in Superdrug?

“GOSH cosmetics, which are exclusive to Superdrug, always flys off our shelves! People seem to love it. Barry M nail varnishes are always really popular, as soon as we put them on the shelf they’re gone again!

We have a 2 for £5 deal on the varnishes at the moment as well. [Note in the picture how many empty spaces there already are in the display!] Brands such as Max Factor, Maybelline and Loreal sell really well here too. The branch I work in more often, in Ashford, is more rural so slightly cheaper products such as Collection 2000 are really popular.”

What sort of experience do you aim to give Superdrug customers?

“We aim to put the customer at the heart of everything we do. That’s what I tell staff to do. We like to greet customers with a smile… everything is customer focused. 12-4 is our busiest period at the moment so we make sure there are enough staff to cater to the customer’s needs.”

What does it mean to you to be a Superdrug manager?

“I’m really proud as I started off in head office and now I work in stores, and I’m only 21. I like being able to manage and develop people and I enjoy the challenge of trying to win targets against other local stores. I like making the customers happy and try to do new things to surprise them and enhance their shopping experience such as have people welcome them in at the door.”

How many other staff do you have in this branch and what roles do they play?

“We have 20 staff overall. We have sales assistants who are there to help customers, till supervisors who make sure there aren’t queues and sell items, team leaders who keep everything in check, pharmacy managers who are qualified to provide medication and then managers and assistant managers.”

Lastly, how do you see Superdrug progressing in the future?

“I believe Superdrug has a bold future. We’re doing very well and are a great success. In the past Superdrug was more like Woolworths, you would go in to buy the essentials such as shampoo and soap. Nowadays it’s much more about fashion, we focus on cosmetics, trends and brands. People that shop here are more fashion conscious, and we’re now ‘Britain’s most fashion conscious health and beauty retailer’.”

After chatting to Dwight and taking photos, I had a wander round deciding what to spend my giftcard on! I ended up in the haircare aisle, which has so many neat and lined up goodies I could spend hours there.

I ended up buying 2 Aussie products as they are currently on a 2 for £6 promotion, and I’ve run out of my Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Deep Conditioner. I usually buy the one for colour treated hair but thought I’d push the boat out and buy the reconstructor one instead haha! All their products have seed oil in which makes your hair smell absolutely amazing and peachy and feel lovely. The conditioner is really thick so you only need to use a little at a time too.

I haven’t used the Miracle Hair Insurance Spray before, but will give people an update once I have! Once I’d chosen these, I still had £14 left on the giftcard so made my way to the make up aisle. Bright coloured lipsticks and nail varnishes were screaming out at me, but I don’t really need them so I decided to be sensible and buy things I do need!

I was looking for a good under eye concealer, so ended up choosing a Revlon Color Stay one. I only bought these yesterday so haven’t had the chance to try it out yet but it looks a bit tricky to use (or maybe I’m just stupid?!). I haven’t quite figured out how to get the actual concealer out yet, but the soft spongey top makes it look like it would be nice and smooth to put on.

I also bought a new face powder, and chose Rimmel’s Renew and Lift Brightening Powder with Minerals. I thought I’d give it a go and see if it did brighten my face and whether mineral powders are better than a general powder. I will let you know! Even though I’m always impressed with Superdrug stores anyway as they always seem clean and well presented, talking to Dwight made me realise the staff really are passionate about giving customers a good experience.

The way they focus on fashion as well as beauty, and the fact they always have great deals is why I’ll always shop there!

Summer H2T

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (14 votes, average: 4.21 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

As you know, I love all things beauty from head to toe. So I couldn’t leave my summer looks challenge just with the day and night makeup. I wanted to share the quick and easy way I did my hair for the looks and a few ideas for putting your all important summer outfits together.

The Hair

If you’re wanting sexy, soft, gentle waves that are free of frizz but still scream summer try using sea salt spray. It is perfect for all hair types, textures and lengths. No matter how long or short your locks may be, you can have glorious tousled waves with just a few spritzs  I often see big branded sea salt sprays  but why spend money on that when you can make your own for next to nothing and adapt it to suit your hair type.

I got a big spray bottle ( like the ones in the hairdresser) from Superdrug for only £1.99 but you can use a smaller spray bottle if you want, this one has a great misting effect which means the product covers the hair.

I then followed the basic recipe of:

2 cups of water with 3 tablespoons of sea salt ( make sure you use the right type of salt, normal table salt will not have the same effect)

Now if you are in a hurry all you have to do is stir in the salt to the water, pour into your bottle give it a shake and spray away. This works great and with a bit of scrunching you will be a beach babe in minutes.

If you have a little longer and want to make a larger amount to keep in your bottle and use all summer long, just double the amounts but this time put the water in a small pot and warm it – NOT boil. You can also warm the water in the microwave at a low setting, but this may not warm the water evenly enough to dissolve the salt. When you see the water is close to boiling, remove from heat and let it cool for a minute or two.

Add the sea salt (and the extras described below if necessary)  to the pot while still off the heat, one tablespoon at a time. Stir continuously to dissolve the salt completely. If not completely dissolved, the salt may clog the spray bottle or leave small chunks of salt in your hair.

Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature. Once cooled, pour the mixture into the empty spray bottle. Shake well, and your sea salt spray is ready to use!

Scrunching your hair will set the wave. Allow your locks to air dry to ensure that your waves do not become frizzy. When your tresses are fully dry, spritz lightly with hairspray to make certain your luscious sea salt waves last.

The recipe is so adaptable, you can mix in a few drops of your favourite hairstyling product for more hold, or half a teaspoon of a nicely scented conditioner such as coconut to give it a great beachy smell. A top tip i recommend for anyone with grease prone locks like me is to add in a few drops of tea tree oil in the bottle, or if you have normally dry hair drop in a little of your favourite scented essential oil, it will not only condition but add great shine! ( Rosemary  helps to deepen the color of brunette hair or chamomile helps brightens blonds, ylang ylang is great for sensitive scalps.) Don’t forget to shake the bottle every time you use it to mix all your ingredients together and get ready for tumbling tousled locks in an instant.

The Clothes and Accesories

This summer sees some great trends to play around with so let your imagination run wild…

Think Prints- Bold striking prints are perfect for a beach dress, experiment with the gorgeous floral trend seen everywhere right now. Maxi dresses are also huge this summer and perfect for dressing up or down for day or night.

Go Nude- well with your accessories and clothes that is! Nude shift dresses and shoes were all over the catwalks,  but if you prefer a bit of colour use it in your accessories like this gorgeous clutch bag.

Tribal Times- Tribal influence is huge right now and is a trend I love, you can toughen up any outfit with stacked tribal bangles like these.

Make Hay- Straw elements scream summer, straw bags were seen on a lot of celebrities this year, or go all Sex and the City and protect your face and head with a  big straw hat like this. Sensible and glam, I’m in!

Reach for the sky- In a pair of gorgeous cork wedges, these lengthen legs like a dream while being comfortable thanks to the wedge below. They look great under a maxi or with a mini dress, they can take an outfit straight from beach to bar in an instant.

Putting on the Glitz- is simple with a Summer night staple like a cocktail ring, whether you choose to wear one or five, make yourself stand out with bold bright colours, clash them or match them to your makeup or outfit. The world is your oyster! I am in love with the turquoise on this, it would really make a tan stand out.

I have loved this challenge, so thank you Superdrugloves for making my summer sparkle.

Much Love,

Bx

This summer’s guide to make-up

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (16 votes, average: 2.88 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

I have to say I love a make-up challenge and that’s what I’ve got  for this task…

This summer we have seen many fashion trends from the picnic time style to the more extreme underwear as outerwear style made fashionable by music diva Lady Gaga, but how can we compliment our trendy outfits with our make-up.. that can sometimes be tricky.

I think it’s important to be able to buy make-up that can be used for many occasions, day and night.  I am going to show you how the same make-up items can be used for that everyday minimal look and then spiced up for a night out on the town.

I will be using products from Rimmel and Bourjois’ latest collections to show the best looks for this summer.

This summer’s trends include:

So above are this summer’s most fashionable looks but if we have these outfits how can we match the high fashion look with a face to match.

Below is the Rimmel collection that I will be using to create a fashionable night and day look to match our trendy summer 2010 outfits.

Rimmel make-up kit

Firstly the base:

Rimmel’s Sunshimmer Instant Tan in Medium Matte… one word NO! I tried it on and I just looked dirty.  I know I said tribal but I don’t think there’s any need to take the word back to it’s roots.

It is vitally important to get the right foundation and concealer.  I have spotty combination skin so I rely on good coverage that won’t leave my skin dry or oily.

I think Rimmel’s Lasting Long Finish Foundation works a treat, as it provides an even coverage.  At a great price (£5.99), this product really will not disappoint, instead it will make troubled skin a thing of the past for a whole 16 hours; so you can concentrate on enjoying summer.

I like to top up with Rimmel’s Hide the Blemish Concealer to hide away my tired under-eyes and spotty complexion.  This concealer is a must.  If you feel it’s too hot to wear foundation, why not just apply the concealer to even out the skin; instead of having a heavy mask of make-up.

In the Superdrug make-up kit I tested Rimmel’s Natural Bronzer Powder (£5.49).  This product is great in creating a summer glow.  I have very pale skin so I usually opt for a pink shade of blusher, however the bronzer really makes your cheeks stand out, highlighting the cheekbones.  If you are a fan of the WAG look then this bronzer can leave you looking really tangoed, but for the average girl wanting a sunkissed glow; applying this bronzer lightly creates a great look.

If you simply want to head out for a picnic with the girls then you can just add Rimmel’s Stay Glossy Lipgloss (050 Unlimited Gold), which gives the lips a natural colouring that lasts.  It can compliment this season’s picnic and nudity look, as it is very casual looking; for everyday wear.  If planning to jazz up your look; for example having more colourful eye make-up, then this shade is perfect as it is subtle.

BEAUTY TIP:

It is a beauty no-no to have bright lips and eyes (well, unless your a drag queen), so tone down on one of the two ladies.

To create an everyday look for your eyes, simply apply Rimmel’s123 Look mascara, stage 1.  I love how there are 3 stages of wear with this brush.  Stage 1 is designed for the day as the brush only collects minimal amounts of the liquid, stage 2 is perfect for going out for a meal or going to the pub as the volume and length of lashes are increased.  Finally stage 3 creates a night look as the brush allows for maximum liquid onto the lashes, making them full and striking.  Surprisingly the lashes do change throughout the stages which is great for all occasions.  The only problem is stage 3 can make the lashes quite clumpy, however I have seen much worse so overall a great buy.

Below is the look created from using all  of the above products.  This final look is perfect for going shopping, going to work and lazing in the sunshine.  It will compliment the picnic and nudity look, making your summer fashion buys look their best.

123 Looks Mascara (001 Black), Natural Bronzer (022 Sun Bronze), Stay Glossy lipgloss (050 Unlimited Gold)

Looking for eye make-up to suit going out for a few drinks or a classy meal?

Rimmel’s Glam’Eyes eye-shadow (200 Spicy Bronze) will capture the latest colour trends and make your new purchases look fabulous.  Many bold prints are in fashion this summer so choose a shade that matches your print.

Once in place the application of Rimmel’s Exaggerate Liquid Eye-liner helps the eye become even more striking; a must when trying to create a colourful tribal look.  This eyeliner is strong in colour and can be applied very easily.  The liner will last on the lid for a long time, so no need to top up.

BEAUTY TIP:

If you want your eye colour to stand out a definer is a great way to draw attention.  I have used Rimmel’s Exaggerate Eye Definer in shade 240 Aqua to help make my sparkly blues become even more dazzling.  It really transforms the eye, but should only be used with an eye-shadow shade that matches.

Glam'Eyes (200 Spicy Bronze), Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Definer (240 Aqua), 123 Looks Mascara (001 Black)

If you decide to hit the town for a night out, all that is needed to create a night look is a lengthened amount of eye-liner.  As you can see the line changes the look; making the eye much more glamorous, but also adding new dimensions to the eye; angles which are classic in the tribal style.

Glam'Eyes (500 Posh Peacock), Glam'Eyes (200 Spicy Bronze),Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Definer (240 Aqua), 123 Looks Mascara (001 Black)

Nails cannot be missed in your beauty transformation.  Use a colour that compliments the colour of the clothes you are wearing, there’s nothing worse than having a loud nail-varnish colour with a clashing clothing colour.  Rimmel have made nail painting easy with their 60 second nailvarnish.  It really does dry that quick, making it easy to swap and change colours to suit your fashion buys.

Here are colours which are great this summer.  They can be worn for most looks; as bright is in.

So what has Bourjois got in store?

Below are some of the products within Bourjois’ summer collection

Bourjois make-up kit

The Bourjois make-up kit Superdrug provided is more suited to red and floral trends of the summer.  I am going to create night and day looks which suit the above trends, to help make your girly summer outfits come alive with a beautiful face to match.

Firstly the base:

I used Bourjois’ Healthy Mix Foundation.  What a find! This foundation is great, it smells absolutely beautiful, you can really get the fruity scents that are used to help the skin.  The coverage was wonderful and light.

BEAUTY TIP:

Use a foundation brush when applying foundation.  Fingers never leave a perfect finish.

Bourjois’ Delice de Poudre (52), which to everyone else is bronzing powder, looked exactly like chocolate and smelt like it too. It went on great, giving a lovely summery glow.  The colour was not matte brown which i particularly liked, it was a mixture of brown tones to bring out the pigments within the user’s skin.

If you prefer a lighter look then Bourjois’ Blush (34 Rose D’Or) is more suitable than the bronzer.

BEAUTY TIP:

Look at your wrist.  If your veins are green then use brown tones to compliment your skin, if blue then stick to pink tones.

Just an application of mascara can make your eyes come alive, without looking false.  Bourjois’ Elastic Mascara (41 Black) is a steal as it separates each individual lash to create a flattering fan effect.  There is no clumpiness and coating the lower lashes is simple with the handle to delicately get to hard to reach lashes.

During the day, lipgloss is a better choice than lipstick as it is more subtle and can be worn with pretty much any clothing item and at any occasion.  Bourjois’ Effet 3D lip-glosses give a tint to the lips to draw in colours from the wearer’s outfit.  The shade 46 Rose Lyric is perfect for the red and floral look, accompanied by the Bourjois blusher.  The shade 49 Brun Rose Authentic is ideal for creating the nudity look and is best suited with the use of the Bourjois bronzer.

Bourjois blusher (34 Rose D'or), Effet 3D lipgloss (46 Rose lyric), Healthy Mix Foundation (53 Light Beige), Elastic Mascara (41 Black)

To turn this look into something a little more glam add Bourjois’ Liner Feutre Eyeliner (11 Noir).  A line on the lids creates a very sophisticated look which can be lengthened according to taste.  The felt-tip applicator is brilliant as it requires minimal effort and precision in creating a flawless line.  A slight flick at the corner of the eye dramatises the effect, which is very fashionable with the red look.

Reminiscent of the sexy vamp; apply Bourjois’ 100% Natural Origin Lipstick (07 Framboise exquise).  This lipstick gives a moisturised feel to the lips and colours them with a vivid tint that lasts.  Wearing a red dress and heels would look fabulous with this sexy make-up.

Celebrities going red:

If you are even more daring apply colour to your eyelids.  I have used Bourjois Ombres Stretch Intense Eye-Shadow to create seductive eyes, which looks amazing on a night out.

Remember: Do not apply heavy eye-shadow with a bright lip colour.  I use lip-gloss to tint my lips when wearing black eye-shadow.

BEAUTY TIP:

Use two or three colour tones on eyes. The lightest should be applied to the upper lid, over the brow line, the middle tone should be applied to the lid and the darkest towards the end of the lid.

Eyeshadow shade gets darker across the lid, with the lightest shade on the upper lid (shown above)

For your nails why not try Bourjois’ 1 Seconde nailvarnish (13) which is the most perfect nail varnish around.  It has a brush which is the right shape and size to paint your nails without error.  It dries in 50 seconds and the colour is divine.  The pink sparkly colour is ideal when wearing a floral  number this summer.  If you are looking for a colour which is more refined then Bourjois’ So Laque (29 Dangereusement Rouge) is the one.  The deep colour with a red/purple tint would team up perfectly with a red outfit.  Red+black= match made in heaven.

I hope you’ve learnt something new; so this summer you are up to date with the dos and dont when it comes to fashion and beauty.

Enjoy,

A Girls Night In

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (9 votes, average: 2.67 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

Wow, never did I expect to receive so much make up to play with!  All of us lucky insiders were sent boxes of Rimmel & Bourjois products to create summer looks.  The mega bonus was a Nokia smart phone which keeps me on the “web-side” whenever I need to be, so I can catch up with what’s happening on Superdrugloves.com.

So, I took the opportunity to ‘share the love’ my two pals, Jo & Carly, whilst having a Girls Night In (or as we call it, a “GNI”!).  I created a day and night look for each brand and here’s how we got on…

When I think of Rimmel, I think of products that are cheap, bright and fun and this sums up Jo – she’s a party girl and likes to experiment with funky shades in her clothes and make up, she’s not cheap but fun with her is free! :)

Rimmel ProductsNo make up Jo!Since there wasn’t any foundation in the kit, I used the Sun Shimmer Instant Tan in medium matte as a base for a fresh summer day look… or so I thought.  Although the wash off product is meant for face and body, it did not glide well on the face and looked a tad orange, I’m sad to say, so I won’t be using it on my face in future.  I’ve used the same product on my legs previously and I’m happy to report that it works much better.  From here I applied the Glam Eyes Spicy Bronze all over the lid, which went on really nicely.  I used the Exaggerate Waterproof eye definer in Aqua Sparkle on the lower lash line; it was a bit waxy to apply, even when using the included smudging tool but had a nice glitter to it and a beautiful colour.  To finish off the eyes, I used the 3 Looks Adjustable Volume Mascara that gives volume control by twisting round to various points.  Sadly, I didn’t find this very user-friendly, thinking I’d broken it after the first twist; it opened in two ways (so I spent a while figuring what the 3rd was) and then when I noticed the twisty mechanism with the 3 points on it that actually was the correct way to use it, I couldn’t see the difference the ‘looks’. Still, it gave a decent coat to the lashes without clumping. Next I used the Stay Glossy in Endless Summer, that looked lovely but felt a bit sticky / tacky.  Lastly I swished a bit of the Natural Bronzer over her cheeks to complete the look; the bronzer is mineral based with an spf8 and went on nicely.  Unfortunately, the instant tan let the look down due to the lack of coverage to get more of a flawless skin.  I would have used an alternative foundation but I wanted to the brand and not mix anything.

For the night time look I swept more Spicy Bronze over her lid and took it just up to the brow bone.  Then I used the turquoise eyeliner inside the rim of the lower lid; it’s waterproof so it didn’t go on this area so well.  I next used the Glam Eyes Posh Peacock in the socket and upper and lower lashline, the products didn’t blend very well together but do go on nicely on their own.  I then used the more intense part of the mascara to finish the eyes; again, it was not as gloopy as it looked and coated the lashes but nothing more than that.  I added more bronzing powder, lip gloss and alternated the 60 Seconds nail polishes (825 Sky High and 810 Blue My Mind) to complete the look.

So now on to Bourjois – a French brand that hints at sophistication, glamour and comes in great packaging… Enter Carly.  A natural beauty that rocks everything she wears with class; OK, she’s not French but she’s as chic as.

I applied the Healthy Mix foundation, which was a little too light for her skin (No.53 light beige), all over the face which smelt amazing, very fruity!  It’s not very moisturising for a drier skin like Carly’s so I would recommend it more for a combination / oily skin as its oil free.  Next, I lined the upper lashes with Liner Feutre in Noir and smudged with an eyeliner brush to soften the line for daytime.  The shape of this pen-like liner was fantastic and made the line very easy to create.  I finished the eyes with Mascara Elastic which is said to make your eyelashes 130% more visible in length; I wouldn’t go that far but I think it helped Carly’s eyelashes to look longer.  Only downside is that it is quite difficult to remove, even with an oil based remover.  To the lips we used Effet 3D in No. 46 Rose Lyric which again, had a lovely smell.  Lastly, I used the Delice de Poudre to blend away the paleness of the foundation… et voila!

For the night time, I enhanced what I’d already done for the day. I went over the upper lash line again with the Liner Feutre to make it more dramatic.  I then took the Ombre Stretch eye shadow in 04 Flexi Brown along the same line and blended it with the liner and in to the socket crease.  I added more mascara then used the Sweet Kiss Naturel lipstick in 07 Framboise exquise before applying the Effet 3D in No. 49 Brun Rosé authentic.  To complete the look I added a flush of Blush Bourjois in 34 Rose D’Or to the apples of her cheeks.  The girls and I preferred both of the Bourjois looks as the products seemed of better quality and texture, there really was no contest.

The Bourjois foundation looked like the perfect colour for Jo so I tried day and night looks on her and look at the difference a bit of foundation makes!  For the daytime I went for a natural English rose look with lined eyes and pink lips and cheeks.  For the evening, I used inspiration from 1930’s and used the eye shadow all over the lid, emphasising the crease.  I used the same products as I did on Carly for both the day and the night but I think you’ll agree that they look different on both the girls.  The nail varnishes were lovely and very easy to apply – 1 seconde innovation in No 13. and So Laque! In No 29 Dangereusement Rouge.  Jo was wearing the first one and said that it was rather difficult to remove!

Hopefully I’ve showed you something different… and thanks again Superdrug!

I’m off on holiday tomorrow to Italy (my boyfriend booked it as a surprise mini break but let it slip that we’re going to the land of fab pasta, wine and coffee but still hasn’t disclosed the actual destination).  It’s 11pm and I haven’t packed yet… we’re going in the morning eek!  Hence the lack of links in this post…. I’ve not had time to get it all done tonight, sorry :(

‘Til next time,

Amy x

P.S. Hollie – mega envious about your trip to Japan… I am desperate to go! :-)   Looks like you had loads of fun!

Summer inspiration with Bourjois and Rimmel

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (13 votes, average: 3.54 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

** Warning – Lots of posing photos and slightly creepy up-close eye shots ahead!**

I decided to do a day look with the Rimmel goodies… this is me before using the goodies (scary)!

I decided to base the look around festivals as bright colour seems to be the key. Anything goes as long as it’s bright! I chose to combine the blue Rimmel eyeshadow in 500 – Posh Peacock and the brown – 200 Spicy Bronze, with some other eyeshadow colours I already had.

I actually got the inspiration from ice cream! The brown Rimmel shadow symbolised chocolate, and then I used a creamy colour (Vanilla) and a baby pink (Strawberry) under my eyebrow arch, and then the Rimmel blue on the lid. This look isn’t really one I would wear often but I liked how the colours used together made them all stand out. The blue colour wasn’t one I would personally use often, but I really liked the bronze.

I felt the 1,2,3 Looks Adjustable Volume Mascara I used really made my eyelashes longer, although I didn’t quite understand the concept of the packaging but I’d definitely use it again anyway! To finish my eyes I used the Waterproof Eye Definer in 240 – Aqua Sparkle underneath to make them stand out more. I have a pencil eyeliner in this exact colour, and I find it really brings out your eye colour especially if you have blue eyes like me. This eyeliner was more of a creamy consistency which made it nicer to put on than the eye pencil I have.

To complete the day look I applied the Natural Bronzer in 022- Sun Bronze on my face, arms and chest to add some extra sparkle. I liked this, although it isn’t the best bronzer I’ve tried.

Lastly I added the Stay Glossy Lip Gloss in 040- Endless Summer to my lips. It was really soft to apply and smelled lovely even though I don’t usually use gloss!

On my nails I used the Rimmel nail varnish in 409- Coral Crush. I loved this colour as it was really summery and I was actually thinking of buying one in this sort of colour before this arrived so I was a happy bunny!

For a night time look I used the Bourjois goodies. I love experimenting with eyeshadow colours and inspiration, so with this one I decided to take the idea of a sunset. I used a yellow eyeshadow I already had under my brow, and a red eyeshadow on my eyelid. I then used the Bourjois 01- Intense Black eyeshadow in the contours to symbolise the night sky (cheesy haha).

To finish off the eyes I used Bourjois’ Mascara Elastic, which had an interesting looking applier! I liked this mascara but I think I prefer the Rimmel one just slightly, although I might change my mind! I’m rubbish with eyeliner so I attempted to use the Bourjois Felt Tip Eyeliner in 11- Noir and felt it didn’t look too bad considering! For those who use eyeliner a lot to do flicks and stuff and are much more talented than me, I reckon this would be ideal and easy to use.

On my face I used the Healthy Mix Foundation in 53- Light Beige. The first thing  I noticed was the yummy smell as it has fruit extracts in! The pump made it easy to apply and I liked the coverage although I think the colour might be a little too dark for me in winter, I have a bit of a tan at the moment  (only a bit though!) which meant it blended in slightly better.

The bronzer I used was Bourjois’ Bronzing Powder and I adored the packaging plus the bronzer looks like chocolate – yummy! I really liked the smell of this and preferred it to the Rimmel one. The blusher in 16 – Rose Coup De Foudre was in the cutest peach pot with flower decoration – I’m a sucker for nice packaging! The blush looked really cute on and smelt really strongly of perfume!

On my lips I used the Effect 3D Lip Gloss in 49 – Brun Rose Authentic. It made my lips look really shiny and smelt devine! I look forward to using the pink colour I got too (46 – Rose Lyric).

To finish the look I painted my nails using the 1 Seconde Varnish in No.13. I loved the colour of this and the added sparkle. The fan effect brush meant you could paint one nail in one stroke! It was so easy and the colour lasted for days without chipping, would definitely recommend this varnish!

I didn’t  dislike any of the products, but the quirkness of the Bourjois packaging and the lovely fragrances has definitely made me a new fan!

I got WIRED at the weekend!

Last weekend I was lucky enough to go to the Wireless Festival courtesy of Superdrug as my prize for winning the festival challenge.  Two guest wristbands arrived in the post so my friend Luke and I were on our way to London town for a day of fun.

The festival didn’t start until about 2.30 so Luke and I decided to get ourselves in the festival mood and down a few apple vodka spritzers.  This is the perfect thirst quenching drink for the summer and helped to get us very excited for the afternoon ahead.

I just want to say thank you so much to the Superdrug Team who helped sort out a few issues with our wristbands, but got us in eventually and were so lovely to us throughout the day!  We were very excited to find out our wristbands granted us entry into the secluded guest area.  As you can see from the picture, it was spacious with tables and chairs, cheaper drinks and our own private bbq.  It was also a great place to chill out and spot celebrities such as the gang from ‘The Inbetweeners’ and fashionistas who were sporting the latest festival trends.

chilling in the guest area

Whilst on the subject of fashion I could spot a very definite trend running through Wireless.  Playsuits were everywhere, mainly ditsy floral print or statement block colour as were cut off shorts and cropped lace vest tops.  Eyelashes were false and as extravagant as possible, whilst lips were kept neutral and glossy with bronzed skin a must have accessory!

rompers were everywhere

Footwear is also important.  I braved flip flops and ended up looking like I had been in a run in with a cement mixer as it was so dusty.

*claps* for dusty feet :)

Music at the festival was fantastic.  Plan B rocked out one the tents and Bowling for Soup cracked us up with their American Jokes.  The Ting Tings helped us get into the dancing mood before Pink who was absolutely superb.  What an inspirational woman who gives her all in every performance and really involves her audience.  She started her performance descending from a circus themed box suspended high in the air, climbed into a giant plastic ball and zorbed over the top of us during the middle and finished her magical set by flying overhead for a whole song.

We had a fantastic day out so thank you Superdrug!  Also a big thank you for the recent goodies received for our third challenge.  Your generosity amazes me more each challenge!  I leave you now with ANOTHER festival tip which should really have been added to my ‘What not to do at a festival’ post.  NEVER eat from a noodle bar at a festival.  I did warn my friend that it would be bad news as I have had prior experience of this horror but he didn’t listen hahahaha.

say no to noodles!

Enjoy the festival season.

Festival season has arrived

Festival season is here.  It’s that time of year again where we come together to celebrate musical talent and have an excuse to get messy and have fun.
Here’s this summer’s festival guide
I suggest you keep at least one of these days free in your diary.  For those festival novices you will not be disappointed.

DOWNLOAD: Where? Donington When? 11th-13th June Line up? ACDC, Rage against the machine, Motorhead, Deftones

GLASTONBURY: Where? Somerset When? 23rd-27th June Line up? Dizzie Rascal, Snoop Dogg, Stevie Wonder, Mumford and Sons

GLOBAL GATHERING: Where? Long Marston When? 30th-31st July Line up? Faithless, Eric Prydz, Sasha

LEEDS: Where? Leeds When? 27th-29th August Line up? Klaxons, Guns n Roses, Blink 182, Paramore

We are all familiar with Glastonbury, V Festival, Leeds and Reading but with the attention on South Africa for the World Cup 2010, I can’t help but look back to last summer and remember the TOAST festival.

Held at Clapham Common, London, the TOAST festival comprises of 3 events; the South African festival, the New Zealand festival and the Australian festival.  Running over three days, one day for each country, the festival gives a taste of what it’s like to live in some of the most amazing places in the world.  With live music, dancers, food, drink and entertainment, TOAST is a festival not to be missed.

It stands out for me, as unlike other commercialised festivals, I felt like a VIP without the pricey VIP ticket, and at this one I remained clean and smelt fabulously fresh throughout.  TOAST to me is an upmarket festival, where you can experience the same atmosphere as your conventional festival, but with a touch of class.

This may not suit everyone but I think TOAST is quite unique, a word that I like to associate with myself :D

I went to the South African TOAST festival.  My boyfriend had just come back from Cape Town after visiting last summer, so I wanted to get a feel for where he was staying.

It was a beautifully sunny day so I was automatically in a good mood.  I was, like I am every single morning, unsure what to wear.  Unlike my usual daily debate this was far more important, with lots of factors to take into account.

1) MUD   2) RAIN    3) ALCOHOL SPILLAGE    4) THE CHANCE OF FALLING OVER     5) POSSIBLE NUDITY (jokes)

I know from other festivals that it can be a messy affair, but I’m glad I went with my gut instinct and dressed to impress.

My ideal festival outfit:

I hope you agree that both choices are perfect for each occasion.  Outfitnumber 1 is best for the usual muddy, crazy music festival, as it recognises the essentials to survive the outdoors.  Outfit 2 suits a festival like TOAST, as you can look nice but are prepared for any chance of rain, mud or spillages.  Both are great value for money and help you to achieve that festival chic look, which is very fashionable this season.

So.. what’s TOAST all about?

FOOD: There were BBQ’s alight throughout the day into the evening, where you can buy typical BBQ food like burgers and hotdogs.  For that South African twist, there was the opportunity to eat braai, which consisted of spicy boerewors sausage, sticky spare ribs and kalahari chicken sosaties. I’ve got to say thumbs up South Africa, could have got use to eating like that everyday.

If you ever get the chance to try Biltong, walk away.  I thought I would test out new things while I had the chance and try South African delicacies with open arms (or mouth in this case)and oh how I wish I hadn’t.  YUK YUK YUK… Biltong was the most disgusting thing to have ever met my lips.  I can’t help but think, why would anyone enjoy eating chewy dried meat?  Try if you dare Superdrug Blog readers.

DRINK:

Ok with lots of wine and beer on sale, within close vicinity, I was going to take full advantage of it.  On entry I was given a free plastic cup which was attached to string, to be put around my neck.  As the drinks kept flowing it soon became my most prized fashion possession, and I became very protective of it. Oh how I embarrass myself sometimes.  So, me and cup remained together throughout the day, as you can see below, our relationship grew stronger and stronger.

Confession… I still have the cup to this day.

There were lots of stalls around the Common to test and buy SA wine and beer and there was the opportunity to join a wine masterclass and learn how to taste wine.  I’m not sure I would have been very good at limiting myself to a small sip each time.  Looking back at it though, I would like to have a go at wine tasting, it intrigues me how the professionals taste flavours within each glass.   I can never tell the difference between pepper, cherry, oak or blackcurrant, to me the very cheapest red wine is the same as the top notch brand.

Entertainment:

With lots of SA dancers parading the common with native dancing, I couldn’t help but get into the South African spirit.  There was a polo match, UK vs SA, which made me feel as rich as royalty.  I mean who gets the chance to watch polo in the front row, certainly not me.  That day I became Lady Stephanie, and I didn’t let my boyfriend forget it.  I had never seen a Polo game before, I didn’t really know what to expect, but the pace was fast and it was much more exciting than I thought.  It was good fun being surrounded by a dominant South African crowd, cheering on the UK.  I did get a few unfriendly stares, but hey-ho, it made my day, especially when we won.

Music:

There was a stage set up for the acts and as soon as I knew when the first act was starting I made my way to the front, and lucky me I had the best spot.  The best place yes but without drinks and food.  I left my stuff with my boyfriend and pushed my way through the massive crowd behind me, all in the name of refreshments :D   After a long wait in the queue I was equipped with the goodies and ready to enjoy the music.  I had no clue who the first act was.  Turned out he was a indie soloist, very popular in SA.

The headline act, which I now can say are the best thing I’ve seen in ages, Goldfish, took the stage and the crowd went crazy.  The atmosphere was mad, Goldfish are a massive success in SA and now worldwide.  They have released songs such as Cruising Through and Fort Knox (Check them out).  They are South Africa’s electronica phenomenon, who incorporate lots of instruments into their songs, like the saxophone, upright bass and keyboard.  Goldfish have played all around the world  in some of the best clubs and have hit the dance scene by storm.

The band played until the evening until the crowds dispersed into London’s clubs and bars, where the South African vibe spread to local venues.  Clapham’s hottest clubs continued the night with South African themed entertainment.  Sadly the sun’s rays had the better of me and sunburn meant I needed to go home and get to bed.

I will definitely be returning to TOAST this year, equipped with my factor 50 this time.  I’m sure with the World Cup fever; Clapham’s South African vibe will be as immense as ever.

Below i’ve outlined the main trends for this year:

Happy festival season ,

Festival Fashion Fix

I’ve never been to a festival before but going on the research I’ve done and memories friends have of their festival experiences, they sound like a lot of fun! When Superdrug gave me this as my first challenge I decided to hit the shops and search for my ultimate festival outfit. Along with this I also decided to create an over the top festival beauty look, including dramatic eye make-up and statement nails – (I have been told lots of glitter and vibrant colours tend to be the norm at festivals!).

To achieve this over the top festival eye look I used the following products:

MUA  (Make Up Academy) – all of the products in this range retail at a bargain price of £1 each! However this new and exclusive range is only stocked in limited Superdrug stores. Find out here if your nearest Superdrug stocks this brand.

Barry M2 for £7 offer on at the moment, an excuse to treat yourself!

Maybelline - the best ‘false lash’ looking mascara I’ve tried

Now on to the ultimate festival outfit… Believe me this look took countless days and need I say numerous trips back and forth to the shops to get right!

A closer look at the outfit:

  • a summery, knee length, floral print dress
  • a plain white vest
  • a pair of black glittery wellies – a must have for festivals; you can never predict the British weather so you need to be prepared for anything!
  • an over the shoulder straw bag – these are handy to take with you; easy to carry and your belongings are always close by
  • a pair of sunglasses – just in case the sun decides to make an appearance!
  • and as for the hair a messy plait – easy to do and very festival chic

This outfit can be teamed with a few different accessories to transform it to fit in whatever the weather.

If it’s raining – add a few more layers on top of the dress to keep you warm, along with a waterproof jacket and an umbrella!

If the suns shining and there’s no rain in sight maybe brave a pair of gladiators or pumps!

Now, to finish off this blog post, I was thinking… If I were to ever go to a festival, I would certainly need a ‘Survival Kit’. I am a very accident prone person, I literally fall over thin air, and my memories of camping (school trips) are not good… So that got me thinking, what could go wrong and what could I possibly need? Now I would be here forever if I were to write down every single thing I could possibly need for a ‘Survival Kit’ so I will list my top 5 must haves for accident prone people!

  1. the wearing of wellies – I am most likely to get blisters knowing my luck and no doubt need some plasters - 40 in a pack; these should keep me stocked up nicely for the festival season!
  2. sunburn – memories of Spain 2005 and sun stroke still haunt me to this day! – keep protected with sun cream and after sun, Superdrug have a huge range of brands and offers on sun care this season.
  3. baby wipes – thousands of people sharing limited portaloos, need I say more? Baby wipes are ideal, you get a lot in one pack and they come at a cheap price! They can also be used for removing make up or just freshening up
  4. deodorant – no one wants to smell like they’ve been up partying all night – even if they have! Sure deodorant is on offer 2 for £3
  5. antibacterial hand gel – there is bound to be a lot of germs lurking about in a festival environment, anti-bacterial hand gel is the perfect thing to carry around as it’s easier to use than having to find a place in which you can wash your hands

So here’s hoping I’ll be able to experience my first festival soon – fingers crossed!

I hope you all enjoyed reading my festival post. Keep your eyes peeled for my upcoming posts!

What a great subject for my first Superdrug Insider task: Festivals!!  For me, the best thing about festivals is the freedom; it’s a time where you can leave the real you behind and embrace your festival-self :) Life takes on a new meaning when you set foot / Wellington boot inside that field.

If you haven’t been to one before, nothing can prepare you for such things as communal showering, port-a-loo horror and falling against your will on someone’s tent while they’re inside (hilarious if you’re the “fall-er”, not so much if you’re the “fall-ee”).

However, conquering such things is a liberating experience in itself and the more I go to festivals, the better at ‘it’ I become:

  • I get up with the birds (not meant as a slang term for my friends but yes, we all go together) for a shower to avoid the rush – bikini and flip flops are essential
  • I’m very strategic about when and where I go to the loo – late at night is a no no, I don’t think I need to explain why!
  • This year I’ll be bringing a head-torch to prevent tent-stack

I can’t believe I’ve got this far and haven’t talked about music!  There’s nothing that excites me more about a festival than a great line up… I love picking up my festival programme on a neck cord (I’m sure there’s a name for it… if you know, please post below!) and sussing out who I’m going to see over the weekend.  The first year I went to the V fest, there was a band on the list called 606, we had no clue who they were… turned out, it was the Foo Fighters doing a ‘secret’ acoustic set before they headlined later that night – über cool.  Being in a crowd with your pals and listening to a great band is way up there in my entertainment factor.

There are ways to experience a whole weekend without ‘roughing it’.  You could try “glamping”… My boyfriend and I went to Reading last year after a chance bid for tickets on eBay came off – oops!  Knowing that we would not be able to get more than a couple of days off work in order to get a good pitch, we looked in to the possibility of getting a readily assembled tent with Tangerine Fields but they were fully booked.  The next option was expensive but quirky and practical enough to warrant the price just the once; we hired a Pod Pad.

Pod Pad Village One of many brightly coloured, eco friendly, wooden Wendy houses complete with solar powered lights and a platform airbed to store underneath those muddy boots and backpacks; it was like something out of the Teletubbies! On site they had properly flushing toilets (the campsite toilets at Reading are the most basic I’ve experienced so these were a Godsend!), individual showers and access to hairdryers and straighteners.  They have a reception that charges your phone and gives you free refreshments like TEA!  Although it was a real treat and I would hire one again if I had the money, I’m still one for getting down and dirty the old fashioned way.

Speaking of fashion, I try to free up my style at festivals and I think we could all take a tip from the original ‘hippy’ festivalers of the 60’s & 70’s – do you think they cared what Janis Joplin was wearing? So let yourself go and don’t worry too much about what you look like… you’ll probably get wet or sunburnt anyway ;)

You may have noticed that there has been quite a bit of toilet talk in this post but that’s just the festival me coming out again.  A lot of the weekend’s discussion revolves around toileting – never normally would you talk to people this much about your loo habits but suddenly it’s ok when you’re there… they say that people bond in times of crisis!

After the weekend is over, you’ll probably come back with Festival Flu from over 48/72 hours of excess but its well worth it, simply because you’ll have had the best weekend full of fun, face paint / false eyelashes and freedom!

Amy x

P.S. Pop Tarts make a great snack at your tent… that’s my main tip!

Mud, music and make up. Festivals for the fabulous.

No that isn’t actually me but I have done this whole Festival thing before…

Summer is finally here and for many of us that means one thing, festival season is well and truly upon is!

First you have to choose the festival for you from the hundreds on offer, check out the links for these amazing line ups of both big well known UK and abroad music festivals and local fun festivals in an area near you.  Whether it’s Glastonbury or Rug Fest in Wallingford you still need to be prepared, it doesn’t have to be all dirt, sweat and grubby loos this year so stand out from the crowd by looking fresh, feeling  fresh.

So here is the BeautyH2T guide on how to take the minimum to get the maximum out of the experience and be a  happy glamper(that’s glamerous camper, see what I did there…!) in 2010.

 THE FASHION

  •  Make sure you pack clothes that you can layer on. Knowing our lovely UK weather it can change in a heartbeat so you want to be able to cover up and shed it off easily! Think loose vest tops, band t shirts, waistcoats, the worlds your oyster when it comes to festival fashion.
  •  Denim shorts are a must for working your way around a busy  field of tents and in the huge crowds. Perfect for matching with any top, and if it’s cold they look just as great with tights on underneath!
  • Long necklaces give that relaxed boho look and will compliment your arm full of wristbands!
  • A good hat like this straw trilby will keep you cool whilst looking cool, and also cover days of unwashed hair underneath :)
  • Wellies are a key piece to any festival goers wardrobe, in this year are a twist on the popular biker boot  so it doesnt have to just be tatty old green ones! A pair like this from Next are ideal cheap and chic- Yay!
  • Sunglasses are a must, no point not being able to see the bands play for the sun, and they are great for hiding unslept eyes. Play around with styles and colours, remember anything goes at a festival.

THE MAKEUP+ HAIR

As you know I am a beauty addict so I cant go the whole festival without a little something to brighten up my face and even out my skin tone! You want make up that keeps you looking wide eyed and bushy tailed but is easy to put on in a tiny tent you are sharing with 10 others - 6 of which you didn’t know until you got there!

  •  Waterproof mascara is the ultimate make up tool for the muggy weather and possible rain, and this is my absolute favourite, 1 stroke and you have that false lash effect  in an instant!
  •  A good foundation compact is perfect for being outdoors,  this Sleek Creme to Powder foundation comes with a mirror and applicator and is perfect for beauty on the go, or why not go for the Max Factor version with a built in SPF 15, gorgeous smooth skin tone whilst keeping sun damage at bay, yes please! For those of you lucky enough to not have to wear foundation just a little dab of under eye concealer or tinted moisturiser will keep you looking gorgeous!
  •  A stroke of blusher will perk tired cheeks up ,and there is nothing more practical for the festival season than these cream blushers from Bloom, no fuss or brush necessary, these little 3 in1 beauties can go on lips, eyes and cheeks so are perfect to pop in your bag.
  • A good lip balm with an spf keeps your lips soft and kissable ( what happens at the festival, stays at the festival!), Nivea Pearl and Shine is perfect for the job giving your lips a nice sheen of colour while still being moisturising and packing SPF 10.
  • Dry shampoo is a MUST! You cannot leave home without it ladies, no matter how long you are going for you will need a little of this to revamp your do and keep it looking fresh… well fresh..er. My tip is to put your newly washed hair into pigtails and rock the indie look for travelling there, then when they are dry you just have to shake them out and voila - amazing boho waves, ( my example is this pic- I wear my hair like this not just at festivals but all the time, it is lazy girl beauty at its finest!) and then you have your dry shampoo to put texture back into your greasy mop for the day that follows, ( and a hat for the day after that!) Batiste now comes in the brunette version too so no white headed worries for all us darker hair ladies, there are even miniature tins which are perfect for lightening the load!

 THE  ESSENTIALS

  • Bin bags are a great thing to pack, use them as clothing, as a seat, as a head covering and well as a bin. A couple of pounds well spent!
  • Along with that think, a mirror, some wet wipes, loo roll, antibacterial hand gel , and hayfever tablets, these are all little live savers that have proved really handy to me in the past and might just prove themselves as essential to you this year.
  • Simple face wipes, will wipe away the days excesses and keep your skin  cool and clean, no water needed so one less trip to those delightful port-a loos. These beauties are so effective but still  gentle on pretty much any skin type!
  • You party hard skin will need some TLC so make sure you pack some moisturiser, sun screen and  of course after sun which might just make you a hero for anyone camping nearby who was less prepared than you and has turned a nice lobster red!
  • deodorant- speaks for itself, even though everyone else may be less than fresh you still can be, even in the middle of a mosh pit.
  • And last but not least some bottles of water and a tube of Berocca will keep your energy up and ready for even more dancing!

Remember you can get loads of these products in travel sizes, more space for food and drink that way :)

Me in the out in the field learning festival tips first hand!

I hope this festival lo -down has taken the pain out of packing and has helped you get ready to get out there and embrace your inner festival goddess and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Look good, smell good, and be bad–  drink, eat and  dance the night away,  go wild and enjoy your amazing festival  experience!

Oh and don’t forget to head on back to superdrugloves.com to tell us all about it.

Happy Glamping everyone!

Can I really go to a festival?

OK, something to declare here: loud noises make me fall over.

As well as being deaf, I am also hypersensitive to the sounds I can hear.

Honestly, I couldn’t make it up if tried.

Take one time at uni, I was madly in love with the barman at the union and that particular night was doing my best to strut past him looking fabulous – forgetting however, there was a speaker on route.

I walked past it.

I fell over…

on the union floor!

So you can only imagine the state of my outfit on returning upright.

Then last Saturday, on the way home from the shops, I was walking past another barman I quite like (what is it with me and barmen?) when a bunch of RAF planes flew over my neighbourhood as part of The Trooping of The Colour and they were SO, SO LOUD.

Teetering in my wedges, I tried to remain composed – and in the end I found myself slumped against a lamppost trying to look casual as the cute boy meandered past.

Not cool!

So when Superdrug asked me to write about my favourite festival experience, I couldn’t really comment, as – apart from a brief visit to one as part of last year’s competition – where I wore earplugs throughout, which didn’t really work, I have never been to one – mainly due to the fact that I’m worried the loud music would erm… make me fall over!

So imagine my surprise this week when these arrived through the post – randomly – to our office, addressed to no one in particular.

OK, OK, so wearing these won’t exactly put me in the ‘Festival Chic’ category, but neither will falling over face first in the mud after getting too close to a speaker and losing my balance, will it?!

So, if I am going to go to a festival, I’ll need to accessorize these fetching green ear defenders with:

A maxi dress in zingy colours – think Matthew Williamson for Debenhams, Monsoon…

Erm… you can see I’m out of loop on the whole festival thing as I doubt maxi dresses are all that practical for Portaloos, quagmire and crowds!

Well, at least with a trip to the Make Up Academy (MUA) section of my local Superdrug, I’ll have matching eye liner and nail polish for just £1 each, to go with my sexy green ear defenders!

Not to mention some emergency wipes just in case the ear defenders don’t work and I still end up face down in the mud.

Ah, I feel much better about this festival lark now – so I just have to find some fetching green wellies to complete the look.

And now, all I need is a festival to go to!

Although, in these bright green ear defenders, I may be going alone…

Pump it Up!

When Superdrug asked me to test the revolutionary demo expertise L-Oreal Youth Code I was slightly miffed…anti wrinkle cream, moir? I know I’m in my 30s, but surely I don’t need to start worrying about wrinkles yet?

Whilst waiting for my goodies, still feeling a little dubious, I thought I’d do a little research.  The reviews I found were amazing, miracle in jar, gene genius in jar, can’t live without it, its a must…10 years in the making.the list goes on.

Is it really a miracle in a jar, or is the scientific mumbojumbo just another gimmick?

Miracle cream

The Rejuvenating Anti-Wrinkle Day Cream contains ‘pro-gen’ technology which is designed to help tired skin recover and re-establish its natural youthfulness. The claim is that this cream will somehow help your skin ‘re-set’ its own genetic code and so will help to make you look younger.

Day 1

The packaging looks great, upon opening there weren’t any obvious scents, however, when I dipped my finger in, and first applied it to my face, it felt I was applying velvet all over my face. The texture was so smooth, that you almost have to be careful not to apply the whole jar, it felt weird, as my skin totally absorbed it, relishing in the delight of getting a min facial. I was able to apply my makeup over the top of it literally straight away. It made my face look a little plumper and certainly more radiant, but truly didn’t realise the effects until later in the day whilst shopping in Sainsbury’s.

I got stopped by a market researcher, and she said she didn’t want to sell me anything but wanted to ask me a question, firstly whether I was of Italian, Greek or Spanish origin…and I said none, but indian (wandering where the hell this was leading) and then she said, it was because my skin looked so radiant, that she just had to stop and ask what was my secret.  Well, I wasn’t really sure what the answer was, was it this little miracle cream in a jar, or was it because I looked a little flushed, as I’d just spent an hour at the gym?

I’ve continued to wear the cream for 10 days, loving the complexion it gives me, I found my skin less drier, however I haven’t noticed a significant difference in the lines on my face…not that there were too many in the first place!

I’m sure, if you’ve got wrinkly skin, you would be able to see a vast improvement, but for now, for me its not a miracle in a jar…but a little mini- facial x

Sweet smell of success

into_glam_ I have been wearing the latest Into Glamour spray from Impulse in abundance, in the sheer hope of a stranger walking up to me with a bunch of flowers! This latest….very sophisticated sweet smell is rather addictive…  I was fortunate enough to receive two delightful bottles of the top selling body spray, Into Glamour from Unilever, and must admit that I am hooked.  I’ve never been the one for body sprays, as I’ve always enjoyed squirting perfume all over, but with this new fragrance, I’ve been converted. I keep a bottle in my handbag and also one in my gym bag, I’ve actually had a few people comment on the smell.  It’s not musky, but quite light and fruity, with a really nice sophisticated scent.  The packaging looks really sexy, and its perfect accessorie for winter partying!  What’s more lovely Superdrug currently have it on special offer, so bag yourself one or two of this sexy bodyspray…to leave you smelling absolutely gorgeous…I know I will!

Hello!

Wow, feels like forever since I last blogged. Apologies! I’ve been busy with 2nd year, arranging shoots and preparing for for projects. Turns out 3 bands want me to photograph them in the next two weeks which is really good news! Plus I’m shooting some fashion images tomorrow for a male model’s portfolio – hell yeah!

Last week was 20% discount nights at Topshop for students and as you can probably guess, it was utter MAYHEM! I’ve never seen a shop so full, the queues were circling right round the top floor and you had to squeeze through to look through the rails. Grim. Manage to get myself a lovely cardigan and check shirt I’ve been lusting over for a few weeks. The best part is they didn’t actually charge me for the cardigan! She rang it through but it didn’t appear on the receipt, but I didn’t realise until after I’d left so thats a pretty guilt-free concious I have ha! Its beautiful though, I can’t seem to get both items off my back at the moment. Photos…

IMG_4950my beautiful cardigan!

I picked up this bad boy for £1 at poundworld, how good?! You all know I’m a massive JB fan (so is my bezzie) so we were so chuffed when we found this! Originally £10 aswell…

IMG_4958my dad managed to get me a blackberry (I gave the phone I won to my mum and couldn’t ask for it back – too mean!) I love it!!!

IMG_4937

a photo I took to test if my lens was working…and ended up liking!

SO yeah, thats my life in photo format at the moment! Need to give a little shout out to DEAFINITELY GIRLY who won the magnificent trip to Barcelona – so jealous! But she deserved to win so much, proper proud of her :) I wish I could fit myself in her suitcase mind, I love Barcelona and its gorgeous photogenic hotspots!

Guess I have a bit more time to include my photos from the Wedding before I get ready to go out (We’re going to “Pop Bubble Rock” a cheesy pop punk night – THEY’RE GOING TO PLAY BUSTED, HOW CAN WE NOT GO!!). So here are a few:

Beautiful Vicky and Chris….

I’ll call it a day now. Sorry for long awaited post, promise to be better in future. Hollie xo
