Food glorious food!

Alfresco dining is perfect in these long summer nights (weather permitting!), and I love having a real casual, and often party like atmosphere. Drinks flowing, loads of food to pick on and share…one of my fave dishes is nacho’s…! This recipe is a spin on that, and goes down a real treat!

Taco spicy ring

A lot easier to prepare, than it looks I promise!

You need one stonebaked tray (godsend!), made from natural stoneware clay, each stoneware piece distributes heat efficiently for even baking and browning.  They are ideal for baking pizzas on as well.

Shopping list:

1 lb Ground lean beef or lamb

1 small red onion chopped finely

2 cloves of garlic

1 pack of Taco seasoning mix

1 cup (4oz) cheddar cheese

1/4 cup of jalapeno peppers

2 tbsp of water

2 x tins of refrigerated crossiant dough (all the leading markets sell them in the chilled aisles.

Garnish:

1/2 green pepper

1/2 red pepper

Salsa or make your own.

Lettuce

tomato

1 small red onion

handful of pitted ripe olives

Tub of sour cream

Tub of Guacamole

Now lets begin to cook.

Preheat oven to gas 375

Firstly brown off you meat, and drain the fat if any. Separately fry your onions and garlic in a tbsp of olive oil until golden brown.  Stir the onions and garlic into the meat together with the taco seasoning, with the jalopeno peppers, water and cheese and give it all a good mix, this will resemble a rather a crumbly texture, with hardly any sauce.  Season with a little salt and pepper, for the desired taste.  Leave this aside.

Now for the real creative bit.

Unroll the crescent rolls and separate, arrange triangles in a circle on a round baking stone with wide ends overlapping in center and the points toward the outside.  There should be about a 5 inch diameter in the center, for the garnish.

Then scoop some of the mixture evenly onto the wides ends of dough at center of ring.  Bring points in and over of the pastry, and tuck underneath the wide end, until you form a nice ring.  Don’t worry if there is gap between the pastry…just wait for the cheese to ooze out.

I then just pop it into the oven and bake 20 – 25 minutes until golden brown

Meanwhile, whilst cooking, I prepare the garnish.  Which takes all of about 5 mins, chop peppers, onions, olives and mix together with you salsa mix, lay onto your lettuce leaves (select large leaves) and top with sour cream and guacamole, and then place in the middle of the ring when it comes out of the oven.

Tuck in and enjoy!

Bourjois – Razzle Dazzle

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (7 votes, average: 2.43 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

Superdrug have certainly got us working this year, the latest challenge was to create two unique Summer Looks using the amazing Bourjois and Rimmel and post.

Bourjois range was perfect, to create that perfect evening summer’s look.

FACE

With a bare face, I moisturised my face, with a face lotion perfect for combination skin.  When the moisturiser was well soaked up, I applied the healthy mix foundation which promises to last up to 16 hours, giving you perfectly glowing complexion and toned skin which includes fruit therapy which is radiance boosting.  As its the summer, I really wanted to keep the foundation light, so I applied with my finger tips.  I found it absorbed into my skin really quickly, although light for my skin tone, it gave me a really good base.

CHEEKS

Bourjois makeup is like candy, it smells absolutely delicious….The Bronzing Powder is just one of them items that looks like a mini chocolate slab. Its really compact, and is really handy to throw into your bag (and it wont make a mess).  It gives an immediate boost to your complexion,  I just applied it with a brush over my face for an even finish, giving that skin that sun kissed look!  It was perfect complement to the foundation, as I was able to match the tone to my skin more effectively.

I’ve never used Bourjois blusher before, but the packaging is really neat, comes with its only mini brush and mirror set.  I just added this colour to the top of my cheek bones to give me some colour and to really enhance those eyes more! The colour was rose, and it really complemented the sun kissed look. I love it so much, I kept this cheek look for daytime as well.

EYES

Eyeshadow was the ultra stretchable colour in Violet profound – this was used all over my eyelid, and doubled up to make it more dramatic on the outer corner of my eyes.  The brush could have been la bit larger, but the colour was intense and stayed on throughout the evening!

Liner Feautre Noir Felt-tip eyeliner was a real winner, allowing you to draw a line as thick or as thin as you want. I think eyeliner really is the finishing touch to dramatic eyes.

Mascara – Elastic in black, supposed to give 130% more visible length, I wasn’t sure whether it was the liner…but my eyelashes certainly seemed longer, and my daughter asking if I had put spiders on them.!

LIPS

Lipstick- Framboise Exquise was not a colour I usually go for, the texture felt too creamy, I tend to only use matt, however once I introduced 3D effect  lipgloss..they soon plumped up, and in the end it really drew more attention to the eyes.

NAILS

I opted for the thick chocolate/burgundy (So Laque) ultra shine.   I applied a usual undercoat, and then two layers of the So Laque, finished off with an overcoat.  I loved this vamp look, but was disappointed by the end of the night I had chipped nails, not very good.

FEEDBACK

People loved my look, they said the balance of the softer lips, and the dramatic eyes really complemented each other. Everyone thought I looked really healthy, with a nice glow…overall I give Bourjois 9/10 for staying power, packaging, and smell.

The four non blondes

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (18 votes, average: 3.89 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

It was very interesting receiving this weeks challenge…..brunettes versus blondes (who really does have the most fun) as I recently read a survey on the subject.  The results were very interesting.

1) Blondes may have more fun  -  but it comes at a price. Men don’t trust them.

2) A study found that while fair-haired women are considered to be the most adventurous in bed, brunettes are seen as more reliable in a relationship … and more sexy.

3) In a poll of 1,500 men, more than 60 per cent thought dark-haired girls were the most trustworthy and loyal, compared with just 14 per cent of blondes.

4) The result is men feel brunettes make the best wives.

As a brunette, I can definitely say I’ve had my fair share of fun! I can’t remember any rivalry with Blondes, and never ever wished to be blonde.  I love my hair, it really is my crown and glory. There are so many stereotypical perceptions of blondes, blonde jokes, lack of intelligence etc, so I thought it was only fair I put this to the test myself, and conduct my own research…in Edinburgh!

four non blondes

four non blondes

Me and my girlfriends, Bal, Sang and Narry all brunettes I hasten to add were on our latest SATC jaunt, all armed with this weeks task…to find out whether men think Blondes or Brunettes have more fun!  We also wanted to know their favourite Brunette!

We started off early…and the first chap I cornered was at the security guy at Birmingham Airport.  He said definitely brunettes, and his fave was Kim Kardashian (which he said I resembled…creep!)

In Edinburgh we hung out in the Royal Mile, and the first bunch of lads we spoke to, were on a stag weekend.  No surprise here…but the consensus was blondes, however they kept saying that they would end up with a brunette, there were some other comments (unfortunately its not printable!)

One thing I certainly noticed, this research was a real ice breaker…I couldn’t believe how many men loved being part of the survey.  I wondered, as there was four hot chicks asking the questions…whether that really had any bearings on the end result…?

The results at the end of the night were not surprising…BRUNETTES definitely have MORE fun…well at least the men of Edinburgh seem to think so!

Poll Results:

Brunettes 57%

Blondes 38%

Red Heads 2%

Ginger 1% (erm…)

Bold 1% (why?)

Grey 1% (interesting…gives me hope for 20 years time!)

Top Brunettes in no order were:

Kim Kardashian (someone said I resembled)

Angelina Jolie

Kristin Steward

Cheryl Cole (although someone mentioned they think she looks like a lollipop)

Kelly Brooke

Katy Perry

Lilly Allen

Freido Pinto

Beyonce

Fergie

Megan Fox

Dancing Queen

You are the Dancing Queen, young and sweet, only seventeen (ok not quite)
Dancing Queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, digging the Dancing Queen

Dancing Queen

On Friday 3rd July 2009, Warwick Castle played host to an all-singing, all-dancing, musical extravaganza with The Music of ABBA – A Pop Symphonic Spectacular.  Featuring a host of talented stars from the West End smash hit musical Mamma Mia, the show brought to life the Swedish supergroup’s best-loved hits with the backing of a full symphony orchestra.
A picnic in the park, 100’s of people gathered together for the festivities in the most beautiful and picturesque surroundings of the delightful Warwick Castle.  My evening was laid back, and colourful, I was lucky enough to enjoy the experience with my 4 year old daughter, who is a huge Mama Mia movie fan…and knows all the words to the songs, as well as my best friends and their girls.
We were well stocked, with chilled Pimms…really sweetie..cucumber sandwiches (you just have too!) and lots of nibbles and chocolates.  So prepared, we even took our own seating with us, just in case the little ones got tired, after dancing the night away, even a tent with blankets, and candelabra, just to give it that romantic touch!

The orchestra was amazing…wherever you were sat, you could hear the ol’ classic ABBA songs, that really truly got you carried away. The evening was really fun, people were dressed up in 70’s fancy dress, there were a few nervous men (believe me they had to be, with the amount of hormones flying around in the fresh air!)  Each song got everyone wanting more, and more, from toddlers to OAP’s, the event with the atmosphere was truly amazing…its really hard to explain, but I just felt on such an amazing high.
Before the evening finished there was a dramatic fireworks finale.  It was huge, over the grounds of the castle, the evening was so mild, the fireworks just looked spectacular.
One of the best evenings of my life, full of fun, dance and laughter, with the people I love most!

You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, digging the Dancing Queen….that was me!

Thank you, thank you, thank you Superdrug!

I’ve been a busy guinea pig, as I’ve been testing the top selling must have products from L’Oreal courtesy of Superdrug. As you get older, caring for your skin becomes less of a chore, and more of a necessity…I must admit the years have certainly been kind, must be due to my gorgeous Indian genes, as at 37 I hardly have any wrinkles!

This is my five step daily beauty regime…I’ve converted, as I’ll certainly be putting these products into my shopping basket from now on!

Step 1

The new Loreal Perfect Clean with the Scrublet, that really gives you a refreshed look.  Its a foaming gel wash, which comes with its own unique Scrublet, which is a little pad, with hundreds of tiny bristles, which you pop out, you pour on the gel, and give your face the perfect clean scrub.  It is a really effective and gentle exfoliater, which you can use daily. And the great thing is there is four to choose from so there’s one for every skin-type!

Step 2

I am addicted to the Youth Code which I have been trialling for a month or so. I love the smooth velvet texture, and it sinks right into your skin. I’ve recommended it to my friends, who just love it!

Try it for yourself, Youth Code available online, with £5 off!

Step 3

I was a little dubioous about trying the new L’Oreal Matt Morphose Foundation.  I love my bare minerals fooundation, however, I thought I’d give this a go, as the shade 180 Rosy Sand, really was perfect for my colour skin. I found this a non drying matt foundation, that has a unique feather light souffle texture, that was really easy to apply, giving me long lasting coverage, with no need to reapply during the day…even through a lunch work-out!  I love the packaging, its simple but cute, and it pops into your makeup bag.  I certainly give this a thumbs up! 10/10!

Step 4

Now, I don’t know about you, but one thing I can’t leave the house with is mascara, I must have tried 100’s of different makes. I really love the thick, full lashes that are soo in fashion.  This Double Extension Renewal Serum Inside Mascara from L’Oreal doesn’t disappoint. Its a spectacular mascara that leaves your lashes looking longer, thicker whilst still being nourished at the same time!

Forget fiddly false lashes. If you want longer looking lashes this product is perfect for you!

Step 5

Lastly a L’Oreal first, a boosting serum for your lips, the Color Rishce Anti-Age Serum lipstick, containing Collagen and Hyaluronic Acid, to hydrate and plump with moisture. Lips are enveloped in voluptuous colour that doesn’t feather. The Result? More defined, younger-looking lips. With a slick sexy looking packaging, you’ll definitely want to show one off in your handbag!

Now your ready to face the world!

Pump it Up!

When Superdrug asked me to test the revolutionary demo expertise L-Oreal Youth Code I was slightly miffed…anti wrinkle cream, moir? I know I’m in my 30s, but surely I don’t need to start worrying about wrinkles yet?

Whilst waiting for my goodies, still feeling a little dubious, I thought I’d do a little research.  The reviews I found were amazing, miracle in jar, gene genius in jar, can’t live without it, its a must…10 years in the making.the list goes on.

Is it really a miracle in a jar, or is the scientific mumbojumbo just another gimmick?

Miracle cream

The Rejuvenating Anti-Wrinkle Day Cream contains ‘pro-gen’ technology which is designed to help tired skin recover and re-establish its natural youthfulness. The claim is that this cream will somehow help your skin ‘re-set’ its own genetic code and so will help to make you look younger.

Day 1

The packaging looks great, upon opening there weren’t any obvious scents, however, when I dipped my finger in, and first applied it to my face, it felt I was applying velvet all over my face. The texture was so smooth, that you almost have to be careful not to apply the whole jar, it felt weird, as my skin totally absorbed it, relishing in the delight of getting a min facial. I was able to apply my makeup over the top of it literally straight away. It made my face look a little plumper and certainly more radiant, but truly didn’t realise the effects until later in the day whilst shopping in Sainsbury’s.

I got stopped by a market researcher, and she said she didn’t want to sell me anything but wanted to ask me a question, firstly whether I was of Italian, Greek or Spanish origin…and I said none, but indian (wandering where the hell this was leading) and then she said, it was because my skin looked so radiant, that she just had to stop and ask what was my secret.  Well, I wasn’t really sure what the answer was, was it this little miracle cream in a jar, or was it because I looked a little flushed, as I’d just spent an hour at the gym?

I’ve continued to wear the cream for 10 days, loving the complexion it gives me, I found my skin less drier, however I haven’t noticed a significant difference in the lines on my face…not that there were too many in the first place!

I’m sure, if you’ve got wrinkly skin, you would be able to see a vast improvement, but for now, for me its not a miracle in a jar…but a little mini- facial x

Happy New Year!!!

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (5 votes, average: 4.20 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

Well what a slow start to the year…with snow making the country come to a stand still..and the cold weather making you want to snuggle up at home and hibernate until the spring, I’m not sure about you, but I’ve found it really hard to motivate myself…especially since I love the New Year.

New Year’s Eve has always been a time for looking back to the past, and more importantly, forward to the coming year. It’s a time to reflect on the changes we want (or need) to make and resolve to follow through on those changes.

For me its a about starting afresh, a fresh start, clear the decks, out with the old, and in with the new, its a great way of getting rid of the old habits we’ve got into, and planning all the things we never got to do.

So this year starts officially today!  Yesterday was supposedly the official DEPRESSING day of the year.  Known is the BLUE MONDAY, in January, just when the glow from Christmas has faded off…the weather conditions, debt level (the difference between debt accumulated and our ability to repay the debt), the time since Christmas, the time since failing to keep our New Year’s Resolutions, low motivation levels and the pressure to take action. Enough already. It’s enough to make me close my head in my laptop in a vain attempt to find warmth and comfort in this cold world.

Well yesterday wasn’t actually depressing for me, I’m feeling really motivated, and energised and I can’t wait for the spring to come.  I’m looking forward to being fitter and healthier than I’ve ever been…going to get few more holidays abroad in this year! I’ll have loads to blog about on Superdrug….watch this space!

into_glam_ I have been wearing the latest Into Glamour spray from Impulse in abundance, in the sheer hope of a stranger walking up to me with a bunch of flowers! This latest….very sophisticated sweet smell is rather addictive…  I was fortunate enough to receive two delightful bottles of the top selling body spray, Into Glamour from Unilever, and must admit that I am hooked.  I’ve never been the one for body sprays, as I’ve always enjoyed squirting perfume all over, but with this new fragrance, I’ve been converted. I keep a bottle in my handbag and also one in my gym bag, I’ve actually had a few people comment on the smell.  It’s not musky, but quite light and fruity, with a really nice sophisticated scent.  The packaging looks really sexy, and its perfect accessorie for winter partying!  What’s more lovely Superdrug currently have it on special offer, so bag yourself one or two of this sexy bodyspray…to leave you smelling absolutely gorgeous…I know I will!

Its my party I can cry if I want to!

Girlfriends

Girlfriends

Last week I celebrated my 30 something birthday, and like recent birthdays…I wasn’t in the mood to celebrating the wrong side of 30.  I don’t know what it was, but I really felt miserable, with everything, the weather, work, the gym…the hubby! I was trying to pinpoint the last time I felt like this, and it was November last year! All I can put it down to is that I must be suffering with Season Affective Disorder (SAD syndrome)..and boy was I sad!

Anyone affected by Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD syndrome) will know that this depressive disorder seems to be exacerbated by the lack of daylight which we all experience during the winter months. It can feel as if this time of year will never end and is enough to send sufferers scurrying to bed with a hot water bottle, a warm drink and a pile of good books!

There are a wide range of symptoms which include depression, mood swings, irritability, lethargy, cravings for sweet foods and a general feeling of being ‘down in the dumps’. For some people the effect can even stretch throughout the autumn, winter and spring.

The exact cause is not known but lack of sunlight is a likely contributory factor. During the winter months, when the days are shorter, you travel to work in the dark. At lunchtime you don’t fancy leaving the comfort of your warm, artificially-lit office to venture out into the wind and rain, risking taking off ‘Mary Poppins’ style down the road as you wrestle with your umbrella. Then, come evening time, you leave work in the dark. Blink and you can feel like you have missed the day!

So what am I going to do about it?

On my pursuit of Happiness I have realised its about taking time out, and recapping on what is most important, my health and wellbeing.  I am extremely lucky to be surrounded by people who care, and who think that I deserve a bit of ‘me’ time.

My wonderful friend came to the rescue, and dragged me out for a good talking to, on a bright, cold winters day.  Armed with our wellies, we set out on a mission…definitely to break some sweat, but also to RELEASE!  I felt 100’s time better, and realised that my life wasn’t that bad, and that I’ve got so much to look forward to.  We finished the walk with a lovely milk chocolate chip cookie and a latte, so I would like to just say thank you Hayley for being there!

My day wasn’t finished off with a girlie night out with my girlies, Sang, Bal, Narry…who are always there for me, and we spent the evening drinking, eating and giggling.

It was just what the doctor ordered!

Thank you girls, MWAH X

Happy Diwali!

Today is Diwali, an indian festival of lights.

In india the festival of Diwali extends over five days. Because of the lights, fireworks, and sweets involved, it’s a great favourite with children.

The festival celebrates the victory of good over evil, light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance, although the actual legends that go with the festival are different in different parts of India.

The Times of India summed up the modern meaning of Diwali:

Regardless of the mythological explanation one prefers, what the festival of lights really stands for today is a reaffirmation of hope, a renewed commitment to friendship and goodwill, and a religiously sanctioned celebration of the simple – and some not so simple – joys of life.Times of India editorial

In Britain, as in India, the festival is a time for thoroughly spring-cleaning the home and for wearing new clothes and most importantly, decorating buildings with fancy lights.

Diwali dates – I was actually born on Diwali….

The date of Diwali is set by the Hindu calendar and so it varies in the Western calendar. It usually falls in October or November.

Diwali is a New Year festival in the Vikrama calendar, where it falls on the night of the new moon in the month of Kartika.

Business people regard it as a favourable day to start a new accounting year because of the festival’s association with the goddess of wealth.

Diwali is also used to celebrate a successful harvest.

A row of lights

The name of the festival comes from the Sanskrit word dipavali, meaning row of lights.

Diwali is known as the ‘festival of lights’ because houses, shops, and public places are decorated with small earthenware oil lamps called diyas. These lamps, which are traditionally fueled by mustard oil, are placed in rows in windows, doors and outside buildings to decorate them.

The lamps are lit to help the goddess Lakshmi find her way into people’s homes. They also celebrate one of the Diwali legends, which tells of the return of Rama and Sita to Rama’s kingdom after fourteen years of exile.

In towns (and in Britain) electric lights are often used in Diwali displays.

In India oil lamps are often floated across the river Ganges – it is regarded as a good omen if the lamp manages to get all the way across.

Fireworks

Fireworks are also a big part of the Diwali celebrations, although in recent years there has been a move against them because of noise and atmospheric pollution and the number of accidental deaths and injuries.

I hope this Diwali brings a lot of light, joy and happiness in everyone’s lives.

LONDON FASHION WEEKEND…..HERE WE COME!

Really excited, the weather forecast is perfect for a day out in London and I’m all worked up for having a nose around The Strand and Somerset House. I’m not even sure what to expect, which only adds to my adventure.  When we get to Temple tube station there is an array of fashionable ladies heading in one direction…to the Strand.

meNow I’m no fashionista, by any stretch of the imagination, as anyone who’s met me will attest to, but I’m strangely attracted to bags, jewellery and other nice items, which there were in huge abundance on the designer stands. Those who do know me will also attest to the fact that the ‘bargain’ gene is definitely not missing from my DNA, as everything you see is affordable (Damn I wish I didn’t already have to spend my months wages on boring things like  a MOT, or car insurance and road tax)  However I have got a budget in mind as I no I won’t be able to resist.

I can’t believe the amount of fashions stalls, anything and everything all under one world, I get stuck in and start browsing but feeling a little over whelmed.

There are just so many gorgeous jewellery brands there, and there is too much to choose from, don’t want to spend my money straight away until I’ve managed to have a good look around!

woofFirst stop at a brand called on off, and I fall in love with this gorgeous bull dog, priced at £200…but how was I going to carry him home….he doesn’t come on a lead.

Then I spot this gorgeous corset stand, it had  the most amazing corset belts, all designed  for a 18 inch waist, which  I just don’t have!corset

I then got stuck at this gorgeous jewellery strand, where I went a bit mad….with all the bargains, I thought I’d do a bit of Christmas shopping.  This stand was quite beautiful, and was full of bling, as all the stones were Swarovski crystal. I fell in love with the most beautiful pearl necklace, which weighed a ton, and it was adorned with a beautiful Swarovski crystal flower, I couldn’t resist it, I had to wear it straight away.

gems

I couldn’t prize myself away, and brought myself some crystal ball earrings, and I also

brought a few crystal earrings as pressies….£100 later it was seriously time to move on!

After spending nearly three hours at the Strand it was time to move over to Somerset House.  We walk our way over, again not really knowing what to expect, but excited all the same.

sign

The sun was shining, and it was really warm, I felt parched, and couldn’t wait to to have a nice relaxing glass of wine.  But before then I needed to head to the Superdrug nailbar for my complimentary french manicure, which in the end I never had, but my friend Bal went for it.  I met the love crew, who were all very friendly, and there was a real buzz, the queue was massive, the bar was a real winner with all the visitors. We were handed yet another goodie bag filled with nail products which we weren’t expecting…so that was a bonus!

nail balAfter more browsing and more buying, another necklace, shiny red shoes from Michael Kors it was time for a rest, and my feet were aching too!

We sat outside, with a glass of red wine, soaking up the atmosphere and the sun rays, before we realise its time to eat!
We head into Central London for a few cocktails at Fudge again, and to really finish off the evening, we head to Busaba, and have a nice Thai meal.

We had the best day out ever!  And next year I certainly won’t be missing out, its a must see show for everyone, and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone the slightest bit interested in fashion. All that is left for me to say is THANK YOU I LOVE YOU SUPERDRUG…MWAH xxxxxx

smileyOMG! I’m so excited!!!

Every Thursday I have had a knock on my door with a courier driver delivering fab goodies from Superdrug. And each Thursday, I am usually late for work as I can’t wait to have a sneak peak at them!

So your all wondering what I’m getting so excited about. Because today I had another knock on the door, and there in front of me stood the cheerful courier who was caught off guard, when I nearly landed him a big smacker, as I knew there was another goodie bag just waiting to get my hands on it. The courier chap left, and said he wished all his customers greeted him in this way!

So, you all know about the gorgeous new gadget I have the fab Nokia 6700 with 5 megapixel camera, which never leaves my bag. And the amazing tickets to the South West Four and Get Loaded in the Park on Clapham Common which I remember so fondly, as I got quite drunk at the end of the evening on two-for-one cocktails, and my lovely make-up case brimmed with Revlon beauty products, and my £100 spending spree at Dorthy Perkins…and last but not least, the groovy summer music downloads, courtesy of 7digital, oh and my Marie Claire mag..but just wait for what came in the post…my £100 Wahanda Spa treatment, for total indulgence, and pampering session just for moire, Superdrug summer essentials goodies, and a beauty pack…

But today, I received a glorious bag filled with 2true beauty products and my two tickets to the London Fashion weekend. So I’m tripping over myself with excitement when I discovered the 2true collection.

goodies

So I’m tripping over myself with excitement as its the first time I have discovered the 2true collection. This ever-expanding cutting-edge range is bang-on-trend – so which ones are my favourite?

I just love the show-stopping glitter, and royal blue instant colour mascara and eye definer, and the combo will create the most dazzling party looks.

As for the really drop-dead gorgeous bright purple nailpolish, that lasts upto 5 days, I can’t wait to try it on.  All the items are handy little handbag size, so perfect for little touch-ups on your night out.

I love their take on the lip tint, Benefit does one the same, and the 2true cheek n lip tint in blush pink is certainly as good as!

ticketsI’m not just excited about the goodies, but I also received my pair of London Fashion Weekend tickets for tomorrow.  These 2True products are going to come in handy, as they only go and match my new royal blue shoes, and splash dress, and wetlook leggings, I’m hopefully going to look like a A-list fashionista, and not a fashion disaster!

Roll on tomorrow, where I will fill you in x

She bangs, she bangs!

With Autumn soon upon us, and the leaves changing colour, change of season is certainly ahead, and I fancy a change, and have had my hair cut.

hairEveryone’s doing it. From screen stars to pop singers, all the trendsetting celebs are updating their tresses by getting piecey layers or eye-skimming bangs sliced into their locks.

Bangs or fringes – whatever you want to call them, they’re stronger then ever! From the blunt lash-ticklers to whispy or modern asymmetric ones, bangs are the perfect way to update your hairstyle and they’re representing a major trend in the cold season. The great news is that bangs are not only the easiest instant update, they’re also guaranteed to knock years off you! Getting bangs isn’t as a big commitment as an entirely new haircut, so is great if you just feel like updating your current look.

bangs

I love my new look, and it just comes in time when I get two snazzy tickets to the London Fashion Weekend,  24 – 27 September, courtesy of Superdrug.  I am looking forward to enjoying the fashion features, watch the stunning catwalk show, having a beauitful manicure by Bourjois, again thank you Superdrug, but the fun part will be the SHOPPING! I can’t wait…

The only problem is what am I going to where?

WEDDING DAY

It’s here, the wait is over!

We wake up early, and get ready for the day. Luckily for me, I have a great friend Andrea, who has flown from Ireland, and she is doing my hair this

Beautiful

Beautiful

morning. I’ve always wanted to have my hair up, as Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex in the City, an updo, and she Andrea does a great job!

I turn up at the house, and Pavan takes my breath away, she looks absolutely amazing, so beautiful, a true traditional bride.

She seems really excited, and not nervous at all, she really makes me feel proud. A little surprise awaits her, as her carriage pulls up, its a beautiful Rolls Royce Phantom, it is supposed to be the last word in engineering excellence, a road-going private jet, a luxury yacht with a point, a car that separates and distances you from both the tedium and the discomfort of travel, and it doesn’t disappoint. I escorted Pavan in the car, and I actually felt like Queen.

Divas

We head to the temple, which is 1/2 an hour away.

The marriage ceremony begins with the arrival of the Barat or the bridegroom at the Gurdwara. We all wait anticipation, and they arrive, with people dancing, and various trumpets playing.

Our family wait at the entrance of the Gurdwara and the bridegroom stops a few steps away. The following shabad is then recited from Raag Suhi Mahella 1 (composed by Guru Nanak Dev Ji) – Hum ghar saajan aye. (“Friends have come to our home; The True One has brought about this meeting. Through love have we met by God’s Grace, and we are filled with joy to meet these good souls. Thus have we attained that for which we yearned. Our wish is to meet in this way every day. My home is blessed. Music is sounding within me for Friends have come to our home.”) Picture 17

After the shabad has been recited, ardas is offered. Then the milni (informal family meeting) takes place and the barat is taken into the Gurdwara. The party proceeds into the Darbar Sahib where the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is enthroned on a decorated palanquin. The bridegroom, now joined by the bride, firstly bow to the Guru and then sit in front of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji for the ceremony to be conducted by the Raagis and the Granthi.

The actual ceremony begins with the offering of a special ardas by only the bride and groom and their respective parents whilst the rest are seated. Upon the completion of the ardas, the couple and their parents bow to the Sri Guru Granth Sahib and sit down and prepare for the bliss ceremony to unfold.

wedding

The Anand Karaj is conducted in the presence of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and it is a sacred ceremony that binds a man and woman in a spiritual union; the spouse is a companion and life partner with whom to tread the divine path of Sikhi.

The wedding Ceremony (four rounds/vows)

First Vow

In the first, the Lord wishes you to be firm in the performance of your wordly duties.

Says Nanak, with the first round, the marriage has been initiated.

Second Vow

In the second round your God has designed to unite you with your partner

Says Nanak, with the second round there is unsung rejoicing within.

Third Vow

With the third round mind yearns for detachment.

Says Nanak, wit the third round (the seed of detachment sprouts in the mind)

Fourth Vow

In the fourth round the mind is enlightened and realisation of the Lord is achieved.

Says Nanak, with the fourth round I have attained the Eternal Lord.

Raag Ramkali, Anand Bhiya meri maye Satuguru mai paiya.

After the wedding ceremony, everyone congregates to the reception, which is beautifully decorated, all arranged by Pavan herself. They have a his and hers throne instead of a top table. The reception commences with the first dance and cake cutting, before everyone joins in the wedding celebrations.

Uma 1st day at schoolMy gorgeous 4 year old, Uma started reception today, she looked really smart in her uniform, after a very hectic weekend I was very worried about how she would be, but she woke up feeling great.

Before the “Big Day”, we made sure that we had all the uniform and equipment she needed, and made sure we labeled everything as things get mixed up and lost, especially in cloakrooms and after P.E. lessons.

We talked about how exciting going to school is, and that it is was going to be one big adventure.

I was being really positive and bright when I dropped her off, whilst inside me I was very anxious, and upset, as my four year old looks so grown up.

As it happens she has a marvellous day and said ‘ mummy do you know everyone had the same clothes on as me!’

Lets Rock this Party!

choora

Day 2 at the big wedding house

Choora or the bangle ceremony is another important Sikh pre-wedding ritual. The occasion is organized at the bride’s home, wherein the maternal uncle and aunt of the bride adorn her wrist with white and red bangles. Ornaments made of silver and gold, known as kalira, are tied to the bangles. The third pre-wedding custom followed by Sikhs is ‘maiya’, according to which, the bride and the groom are not allowed to leave their house for few days prior to the wedding. Gana is a pre-wedding ritual wherein an auspicious red thread is tied to the right wrist of the groom and the left wrist of the bride, at their respective homes. It is regarded as a sacred thread that protects the bride and the groom from ill omen.

Vatna is a ritual celebrated a few days before the wedding ceremony. According to the tradition followed by the Sikhs, vatna, a scented powder consisting of barley flour, turmeric and mustard oil, is smeared to the bride and the groom.

During the celebration, relatives and friends play the dholki and sing ghori, which is a traditional folk song. This is one enviable feature of Punjabi weddings that has all the relatives and friends of the family rejoicing and joining into add the color of the occasion. All are invited in this evening of jubilation, irrespective of age and gender. Jago is traditionally performed by the maternal side of the groom’s or bride’s family. This is a chance for Pavan’s maternal relatives to take over the wedding functions.

Literally, jago means “wake up!”. When there’s a marriage in the house, girls dance through the streets carrying a pot (gaggar) decorated with lightened candles and singing jago songs. Function will start with Dal and Amarjit’s carrying the jago while all the rest of maternal guest sing. She will be dressed in a really traditional colorful Punjabi Ghaghara (suit). Eventually, jago will be passed to other maternal relatives and possibly to paternal relatives. The theme of song in the ‘jago’ is social and typically a lot of teasing goes with the song. This is a time when using songs any one is a fair target for friendly insults and no one minds.

Then the party really gets started, with everyone on the dance floor showing us the latest moves to the latest bhangra songs!

henFinally the long over due wait is here, and all the planning of the last 6 months will be put into action, as the BIG WEDDING is this weekend! My lovely niece Pavan is getting married to Jas this weekend, and its going to be a spectacular affair.

The party starts right now!

Indian Wedding is not only about serious rituals and customs rather it is also full of several fun filled rituals and frothy moments. Though people in India regard marriage more as a religious affair, the elements of fun and frolic are also added into it, to make this emotional affair, somewhat light and amusing. In fact, most of the pre-wedding rituals are designed in away that there is a scope of entertainment. Be it haldi, mehendi or sangeet, all the pre-wedding ceremonies are full of light and amusing moments; however among all the pre wedding celebrations sangeet and mehendi party is the most enjoyable one.

Pav and dal

Weddings in India are considered to be a sacred and sanctified ritual. They are long ritualistic and elaborate affair with lots of pre-wedding, wedding, post wedding ritual. The occasion of Mehendi is one of the most important pre-wedding rituals. It is fun a filled ritual, which is celebrated mainly by the bride’s family. Different regions of the country celebrate the ritual in a different way according to their own marriage customs, rituals, and culture. The celebrations also depend on the wealth and status of the people. The bride’s family celebrates Mehendi party for gathering bride’s friends and relatives for blessing the bride as well as for amusement.

even managed this weeks task!

here come the girls!

henna

The ceremony is mostly held at bride’s place or sometimes in a banquet hall on the eve of the marriage ceremony or few days before the marriage. On this occasion a professional henna designer or some relative applies mehendi to the bride’s hands and feet. There are few places in India where it is a ritual that the first motif of henna or mehendi is applied by the bride’s sister-in-law whereas there are some places where the first mehendi motif is said to be auspicious if applied by bride’s mother.

The Mehendi or henna motif is not only the adoration of the bride rather it epitomizes her transformation from a virgin girl to a temptress for her husband.hen1 As per Kama Sutra, henna is one of the sixty four arts of women. Popular motifs of the bridal mehendi are conchshell, flowers, Kalash, peacock, doli and baraat patterns. The intricate motifs of the bridal henna also hide the husband’s name. It is said that the husband’s name in the intricate henna motifs is made for the groom who has to find out his name in his bride’s mehendi as an evidence of his sharp eyes and active brain to impress his girl.

Mehendi function is usually organized with the sangeet function. So, it has a festive feel to it with the women dancing and singing traditional songs on the mehendi ritual. The bride is dressed in light color clothes with light jewelry. According to the custom the bride must not step out of the house after the mehendi ritual until the wedding day. It is believed that the darker and deeper the henna stains the more the husband and the in-laws will love her bride. The ritual of mehendi signifies the strength and power of love in a marriage so it is regarded good omen for the would-be bride. It is said that the long the bride retains the mehendi, the more auspicious would be her future.

Art

Art

The sangeet ceremony is also known as ‘gaun’. This custom heightens the excitement of wedding festivities. In the earlier days the custom of gaun used to last for ten days but with the passage of time, as people didn’t have more time to spend due to demanding work schedules, the custom has usually reduced to a one night function. At the bride’s home women relatives and friends play the dholki and sing suhaag, which is a traditional folk song. Songs include ‘jokes’ about the in-laws, and would be husband how to have a successful marriage like and songs about the bride leaving her parents home. Similarly the women at the groom’s home sing songs called ghoriya. Traditionally only the women celebrated this ceremony but nowadays the concept has changed as both men and women participate to celebrate this occasion.

In most of the families, the sangeet party is celebrated on an elaborate scale and is a very grand affair. However, in some families, it is also celebrated along with the mehendi function. It is generally done to save time. The sangeet party may be celebrated both as a separate or a joint event in both the families. However people generally prefer to make it a joint affair nowadays to make it more interesting and amusing. As a joint affair before the marriage ceremony, it also becomes a platform developing familiarity of the bride and groom with each others family.

Though sangeet function is an important pre-wedding function of all north Indian weddings, it is most popular trend among Gujaratis and Punjabis. Among the Gujaratis Garba dance is a favored alternative. They are mostly held in a big hall, which are beautifully decorated where people come dressed in ethnic Gujarati wear. The sangeet party mainly involves traditional dance, which is known as Garba, and dandia raas, which is dancing with sticks. The Raas Garba usually ends with a light supper for all those attending. In Punjabis, the Giddha nad Bhangra are the popular dance forms for the Sangeet night ceremony.
