N.Y.C Products

I can’t say my make up drawers are currently lacking in content – not that i’m complaining. This past week i received even more to top them up!

N.Y.C is a brand i’ve never really used before. But receiving these products means i might have to look further into the brand, as there are two items i can see becoming permanent additions to my collection.

After some quick research, they are cheaper than i thought, which is brilliatnt considering the quality of the products.

Allow me to run through what i received…

Liquid Eyeliner; Jet Black:
I used to be useless with liquid liner, and avoided it at all costs. Over the years I’ve progressed, but i still need the right sort of brush to make it that little bit easier for me.
This is the type of brush i like, it’s long and thin, and I’ve yet to go wrong when using it. It gives a great sleek line, i like to use this when i want a subtle black line, instead of using it to build up a thick, winged line.
It wears really well, lasting throughout the day without smudging or flaking.

Metro Quartet; South Street Seaport:

Similar to the Maybelline quads, this has instructions on how and where to apply each colour on the back, which is a great help to those that are just starting out. I also love the applicator that is supplied. On one end comes a regular sponge tip, but the other is a fine, precision brush, the same that is supplied with the Benefit palettes. I love to use these brushes, they’re great for lining the eyes with the shadows.
In terms of pigmentation, it’s pretty hit and miss. The pink champagne colour is my favourite, and I’ve used this alone as a base shadow for different eyes. Then, while the darker brown is an intense pay off, the others fall short, leaving me with a very sheer eye.

Here is what i created with these colours;

Like i said, not very intense, but i like it for a sheer wash of colour.
I also used the N.Y.C eyeliner here finished with Rimmel Sexy Curves Mascara.

Color Wheel; Pink Cheek Glow:
I love the look of this blush, maybe it would be better as a display product?! It’s a really girly pink colour when applied, it gives a very summer like glow to your cheeks which i really like. It goes on quite sheer, but once the colour is built up it’s a gorgeous colour.
This is one of my favourite of what i was sent, as it brightens up the face, with a very natural like blush.

Lip Sliders Tinted Lip Balm; Sugar Fairy:
As suggested by the ‘tinted’ you’re not going for the colour pay off here, which is a shame because it looks so good in the tin!
This is my favourite thing! It gives a really sheer gloss to the lips, with just a hint of pink. It lasts for a substantial amount of time – which i have to admit, did shock me a little – and doesn’t have much of a taste to it, which i like.
I like to wear this when I’ve made a big deal of the eye make up, it adds a little extra, but isn’t going to clash.

Sparkle Eye Dust; Champagne:
I love the colour of this, a bronzed champagne. It’s great for an all over eye colour, but i’ve been using it in the inner corners and along the lower lash line for a bit of sparkle!
It has great pay off too, and applys really smoothly.

I would definitely recommend the blusher & lip balm, and of course, to look into the rest!
Thanks for keeping my make – up up to date!

Thumbs up to L’Oreal Youth Code

OK, sometimes I swear the peeps at Superdrug’s HQ really can read my mind.

Just last week I was staring miserably at my face in the mirror – examining the wrinkles, feeling the dry patches caused by the appalling weather we’ve been having recently and my obsession with walking to work – and I wished silently that a miracle product would land on my doormat.

Well, I can confirm that miracles do in fact happen as just a day later, a box of the latest products from L’OrealYouth Code – arrived.

Now, my Ma uses the ‘grown-up’ L’Oreal Wrinkle De-Crease Collagen range and swears by it – so much so that I actually gave her the whole collection for Mother’s Day last year – what a nice daughter I am, confirming my Ma has wrinkles eh?!

Anyway, here’s what the peeps at L’Oreal have to say: Mature skin and young skin behave differently when exposed to external aggressions. As you age, skin takes longer to recover and responds more slowly. The complexion loses luminosity, facial features appear tired and wrinkles deepen.

Eek!

I guess that’s why they created Youth Code then – a range which promises to leave your skin hydrated, smoother and more radiant. Apparently, it will also nourish the skin with moisture and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and help to improve the skin’s ability to behave more youthfully. When tested by 229 women, 78% of them agreed that their skin looked rejuvenated, 69% felt their wrinkles appeared reduced and 71% though their features appeared rested.

So what did I think?

Rejuvenating Eye Cream

First of all I opened the REJUVENATING ANTI-WRINKLE EYE CREAM, £10.99, and gently dabbed it around my tired peepers – exhausted from having fun! It smelt fabulous, went on easily and afterwards my skin felt incredibly soft.

Rejuvenating Day Cream

Next I unwrapped the REJUVENATING ANTI-WRINKLE DAY CREAM, £9.99, which again smelt gorgeous as I rubbed it into my face, paying close attention to my windswept cheeks. Peering in the mirror, I was pleased that my skin looked happier to be hydrated. I also love the idea, from the L’Oreal peeps again, that it will help my skin to behave more youthfully, too – perhaps I’ll start getting ID’d in bars again!

Rejuvenating Concentrate

Then I got to work targeting the BWA – bad wrinkle areas – with the REJUVENATING ANTI-WRINKLE CONCENTRATE, £10.99. These seem to be my forehead – all that thinking I do, obviously… and I LOVE IT – if anything because it reminded me not to frown and create that line in the first place – smiling only please – and also because it really did make my skin feel better.

What’s even better is that the prices above include a fab saving of £5 on each product – so you can look good for less!

Whoop!

And what did other people think as they’re the ones that can actually see my face, not me!

Well, after deliberately leaving my make-up off for a few days, colleagues commented that I looked great – in spite of being make-upless, and I noticed that my morning walk to work didn’t leave me with such red cheeks and dry patches.

 It works!

So make that 230 women who approve of L’Oreal Youth Code!

Happy New Year!!!

Well what a slow start to the year…with snow making the country come to a stand still..and the cold weather making you want to snuggle up at home and hibernate until the spring, I’m not sure about you, but I’ve found it really hard to motivate myself…especially since I love the New Year.

New Year’s Eve has always been a time for looking back to the past, and more importantly, forward to the coming year. It’s a time to reflect on the changes we want (or need) to make and resolve to follow through on those changes.

For me its a about starting afresh, a fresh start, clear the decks, out with the old, and in with the new, its a great way of getting rid of the old habits we’ve got into, and planning all the things we never got to do.

So this year starts officially today!  Yesterday was supposedly the official DEPRESSING day of the year.  Known is the BLUE MONDAY, in January, just when the glow from Christmas has faded off…the weather conditions, debt level (the difference between debt accumulated and our ability to repay the debt), the time since Christmas, the time since failing to keep our New Year’s Resolutions, low motivation levels and the pressure to take action. Enough already. It’s enough to make me close my head in my laptop in a vain attempt to find warmth and comfort in this cold world.

Well yesterday wasn’t actually depressing for me, I’m feeling really motivated, and energised and I can’t wait for the spring to come.  I’m looking forward to being fitter and healthier than I’ve ever been…going to get few more holidays abroad in this year! I’ll have loads to blog about on Superdrug….watch this space!

Hello all. I seem to have neglected this again. But I’m back with a little update about my Christmas/New Year!

Well, Superdrug were exceptionally giving  this Christmas, and treated me to an amazing gift box packed with make up goodies. I got a GOSH bag too, with the amazing diamante eyelashes I have wanted for ages. I got so many compliments on them on my night out; they really brought an edge to my make up. They literally haven’t left my face since haha. I’ll apologise now for the picture quality, I only had my camera phone to hand…

I later applied more thick black make up (Urban Decay – my saviour) and pink lipstick to contrast with my barry m green and pink nails (I call them Refresher bar nails).

Since my last post, I’ve also had my nose pierced! Unfortunately a week or so after I’d had it done, I was struck down with the flu so cue a piercing infection for Christmas – wasn’t nice :( . My Christmas wasn’t the best this year: flu combined with a 24 hour bug and chest infection meant I couldn’t eat my roast dinner and was confined to bed for most of Christmas Eve! Very grim, but well on the mend now. My nose piercing in action (with my new fur coat – I’m in love!)

The snow has well and truly crippled the UK, but that hasn’t stopped me photographing like crazy. I can’t get over how incredible everything looked with the beautiful white glaze. Apparently there is more forecast for tonight, which has gotten me all excited. I just love it! I used this as an opportunity to dress my dog up as an elf…he wasn’t too impressed.

hes actually the cutest thing ever.

For new year, me and Ed went to our favourite italian restaurant, then came home to watch Jools Holland’s Hootenanny. I’m not big on New Year, so a quiet one suited me fine!

I’m going to cut this short as I have a million and one photography projects to finish before my deadline on friday. The only one downfall about this snow is I’ve been far too distracted with it and not been focused on my work at all! Nevermind, I’ll be back later with photos of recent purchases/presents and make up goodies! xo

A Longer Christmas

Having Superdrug being delivered to the office means I only get them when I’m in the office… This is why a parcel sent on the 28th of December was only received a week ago. But, in a way this is good – it lengthens Christmas and who doesn’t love a surprise gift?
I obviously ripped into the package, happy with anything i got – I then found the luminous green false eyelashes, when am i going to where these? Coincidentally we have just announced a UV party at the club i work in for next week, could there be anywhere better for their debut?

The Elite make up was another plus, i’ve never been able to pull off red lips. I’ve tried millions of shades and they all have something wrong. I was sent the Repump gloss in ‘gorgeous red’ not only did i love the fact it comes with a brush applicator, i loved that the red actually suits me. It’s not too over the top, which means i can wear it whenever!
I’m going to have to track down the Elite brand for a top up soon.

Yet another favourite was the Revlon nail varnish, in ‘Plum Night’. My Christmas polish was immediately ripped off in its prime, swiftly covered by this beauty.
I can’t help but describe it as the colour of an aubergine. To me it’s identical. It wears well and adds a little sophistication to my nails, which is only enhanced by the matching red lips.

I’m still working my way through some of the products – but this is a great Christmas present, which i’m happy to have received late!
Thanks again Superdrug!

When I embarked on my From Superdrug with Love mission, I had the lovely job of handing out gorgeous gifts and goodies to my friends that led to squeals of delight and lots of hugs of thanks for me! Never a bad situation to be in, I think you’ll all agree. So, imagine my surprise when underneath the tree, I discovered a parcel addressed to Deafinitely Girly – wrapped in pink paper!

*squeak

In it was something just for me – from Superdrug, with love!

Most excitingly was a collection of Revlon make-up. Since reviewing it in the summer, I’ve become a massive fan – the eye shadow, of which I received a new pallette,  is fabulous for layering and blending and, what’s more, the lighter shades in the compilation boxes are great for wearing on their own.

Also in my box of Christmas delights, was a fabulous Revlon nail varnish in Plum – already sampled, it goes on a dream, which cannot be said for all dark shades of polish, and it stayed on throughout the festive period, so much so that I’m off to see if I can get it in shades of navy blue and grey, too.

I wish I could tell you what else was in my Christmas box from Superdrug, but my excited family descended upon it and I’ve yet to discover which exciting potion, gloss and powder ended up where…

Just today, I found the foundation – just my shade and promising illuminated skin (brand name to come once I recover it from Ma’s make-up bag) in Ma’s make-up bag and then, while pilfering a tin of Quality Street, I found a fabulous jewel-coloured eye shadow nestled in between the shiny papers. I guess this hide and seek means Christmas just keeps and coming.

And the best bit?

All this new make-up is perfect for New Year - it’s given me an entirely new contents for my make-up bag…

  • a new look…
  • a new beginning…
  • a new start for DG…
  • What could be better!
  • Happy New Year everyone.
